1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Extracting BCH/BTG Help on: December 01, 2017, 12:54:10 AM
Hello, I had some btc on an electrum wallet prior to aug 1. I also added some btc to the wallet after aug 1. I never extracted BCH or BTG for that matter. I know that I basically have to export the private keys into an BCH supported wallet. My main question is: When I was sending BTC to electrum, i would use a few different receiving addresses. I read somewhat that it was a smart move.(maybe 6-8 different ones) Do i have a different private key for each receiving address? How should i get out my BCH/BTG? My wallet is now empty after moving all coins to a ledger so I am ready to get this stuff out now.

Any help is appreciated. I have watched a few videos and read many articles but I want to make sure I do it right as their is a decent amount of money.

"One other idea while you wait for your ledger.  You can copy the MPK from your seeded wallet and create a watching only wallet for use on the online computer.  Just save and hide the seeded Electrum wallet and ONLY use the watching only wallet to view your coins.  There is no private key/SEED in a watching only wallet.  Malware cannot steal coins from a wallet without private keys or SEED present."

This is what I would like to do, but I am so technologically illiterate, I am afraid that I will mess everything up during set up.

I just wanted to move coin off any exchange and into a safe spot.

Hey guys, I know my coins in electrum are safe, however Malware on my system could be a threat. I use the same 5-10 websites and don't really download any programs. I also have Avira Antivirus running and Malware Bytes for Scans.

Do you guys think I am safe from a Malware stealing my coins? Do you guys have any preferred anti virus software that can scan for Malware known to target wallets specifically?

I ordered a ledger early June but it has not shipped.

Any other advice to secure my wallet? I know cold storage is a good option but the set up looked complex.

Thanks for all the help guys

Ha you guys are making me super paranoid. I just want an easy way to secure this stuff and not have to worry that one day all my coin will be gone

I am basically technological illiterate. Maybe I will just buy a basic new laptop and leave the electrum wallet on that and never use it except to move coin in and out.

Thanks again for the help.

I have my ledger on the way.

As it stands, are my coins safest with electrum? what are possible risks of just leaving it in that wallet for a year? what is the likelihood that my electrum gets hacked or my coins stolen?

Appreciate all the support.

Thank you all for the help. I guess I am just paranoid. Do most people use 2FA? Am i safe without it?

Thanks for all the help guys. I am trying to create a new wallet and its asking for the seed which I am inputting correctly, but the NEXT button is greyed out.

Any ideas?

Is it safe to continue to send it to the same address?

Also, what the easiest way to create a new wallet?

Thanks for the help

I want to set up my wallet so nothing can leave without my google authentication. I already set my wallet up and has coin in it. I know you can do it during set up but I must have missed it. Where can i do it while the wallet is already in existence?

My second question. Is it preferable, every time i receive Bitcoin to send it to a different available address? or is that not best practice?

Still new to the game so want to secure as much as possible.

Thanks!
