Hahaha agreed! I think when sudden fluctuations like that happen, its important to look at the broader picture : Yes, Bitcoin is fairly young and ocasionally a little unstable at times. But as more people learn about the benefits of using a decentralised peer-to-peer currency, demand will gradually increase while supply remains fairly stable over time. Which way does value go, long term? Smiley

Also worth remembering that plenty of people tried calling:"timber!" the last time Bitcoin's value dropped suddenly (a few weeks ago). The more often this happens, the less notice people will take of these Bitcoin-doomsday-lunatics and the more seriously the world is forced to consider Bitcoin as a currency.

I just used this opportunity to run out and buy a whole load more BTC Smiley so yeah, anyone desparately looking to sell quickly and cheaply should contact me! Lol

Just to let everyone know, my domain is registered and fully working! (I was just getting a little worried as I hadn't heard anything for a day or two) Thank you PrivacyShark!

I have just placed an order with PrivacyShark yesterday afternoon, paid via Bitcoin but not yet heard anything.  I sent an email this morning (a few hours ago) just to confirm but so far the domain has not been registered.  Will keep this thread updated.

I must say I feel a lot of apprehension.  It is obviously great to see the interest in the Bitcoin reach the U.S. government.  But we must remember that Bitcoin represents empowerment of individuals and thereby a loss of control for governments.  We saw how easily Visa and Mastercard (and also PayPal) froze account for donations to Wikileaks at the request of the U.S. government.  (I should say that Wikileaks now accepts Bitcoin donations by the way).  So they would not be able to tax or freeze accounts linked to Islamic extremism, criminals or other undesireables.  Being able to pay people anonymously may also raise great concerns with them.

I don't mean to sound negative and of course I wish Gavin all the best at his presentation.  The publicity is an inherently positive factor for both you and Bitcoin, but I guess I am voicing some of the concerns that may be present there with you.
