1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP20 problems on: May 29, 2015, 03:09:26 PM
Agreed. It's a simple and effective solution.

I've had to deal with it before. I purchase most of my equipment second-hand and unfortunately, sometimes things go wrong. I'll wait to hear what they have to say, but I doubt they'll have a suitable answer or excuse.
2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP20 problems on: May 29, 2015, 02:52:59 PM
I'll try messing around with the recovery process again. But I'm fairly certain that it's dead. Which isn't surprising since the seller did a terrible job packing it. The top piece of cardboard packing material that it ships with was missing and I'm sure that it took more than a few good smacks on the top of the box.

I contacted the seller explaining the situation and providing an opportunity to assist before I request a refund. Hopefully they know something I don't. Otherwise, I'm sending this junk back.

I miss being able to buy from SP-Tech directly.

Two 750W EVGA units. I've also tried it with a pair of Corsairs and a 1300W EVGA unit. Same results.
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / SP20 problems on: May 29, 2015, 04:57:14 AM
Hey everybody

I just grabbed a used SP20 off of eBay to add to my rig and I've encountered a bit of a problem. When I wire everything up and turn on the power the fans spin up but there is no response beyond that. No network connection, no status lights.

I've tried an SD card with both the recovery and boot images, but no luck. It feels like the control board it the source of the problem, but I wanted to ask if there's anything I've overlooked. Thoughts?

Not sure if it's been posted already, but I remembered reading this a while back. Seems relevant now.

6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S2 stopped hashing on: March 11, 2015, 06:18:36 PM
I pulled everything out of the case to clean and check. Nothing observable. Still got the same errors. Plugged everything back in, reset the firmware and tried a different pool.

And so today I learned about the importance of listing more than one failover pool. 1 and 2 were dead and I never specified a third pool. At least it gave me an excuse to learn more about the Bitmain firmware.

Ultimate embarrassment Grin
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Antminer S2 stopped hashing on: March 11, 2015, 05:22:05 AM
So as I'm preparing for blissful sleep, I suddenly hear the dreaded beeping coming from my S2. Abandoning my attempt to sleep, I go to fix whatever's wrong and find that the ASIC boards no longer appear to be visible to the controller. I cycled power and reset the firmware, but that didn't get me anywhere. I'm too tired to really look at the kernel log, but from what I can tell, the GPIO connections from the controller to the boards seem to be failing during the boot process. I'll post the a chunk of it below.

Is there something wrong with the controller or the boards? Or is this a software issue? What can I do to fix this and/or what should I do to investigate further? I probably won't be back on until tomorrow after my morning classes so thanks in advance for any assistance.

one s1 to rule them all? Smiley)))))
nice symmetric setup Grin

My most recent removal. I think I'm gonna keep this one as an artifact.

Are those 4 miners S5s? What did you use as top cover?

Not as impressive as some of the other rigs, but no one else has Rocket Raccoon handling OPSEC.

I wish. Sadly they are only S3s.

Cool. Thanks for the info.

I decided to pop the case open and peek inside and it doesn't look like PWM control is an option. If I had to guess, the miner uses thermostatic control to prevent overheating. The fan header being used is a 3-pin so I think the only way to gain control with the same kind of granularity as PWM would be to build a voltage regulator for it. This would be more work than one miner is worth.

I was looking as both sides but like you said, the long term average is fine. I was just curious about what the behavior is indicative of. I'll try messing around with diff setting.
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 26, 2014, 03:20:41 PM
I got a U3 for Christmas and after tinkering for a few hours under the tree yesterday, it's happily hashing at ~56GH/s. I settled on an RPi running the cgminer build from the most recent Minera img. I let it run overnight and there doesn't seem to be any major issues. However, there are a few specific questions I have that I wasn't able to dig up answers for.

1. Has anyone come up with some general thresholds (safety/stability) for the voltage and frequency settings? I'm messing around with the stock equipment until I can integrate into my mining rig back at school.

2. Is there any way to forces PWM values to the fan controller? The fan runs at a sluggish RPM and I'm past the point of letting miner fans bother me. I'd prefer to crank it up and cool things down.

3. What causes the fluctuation of the hash rate? Over a 15 minute period, it'll bounce around the 35-70GH/s range. I see the same thing with my big rig, but I've never looking into the cause.

Thanks!

Thanks for the update. I'm staring at my Bitmain cart right now contemplating the purchase directly from the manufacturer. The fact that their price is by far the lowest makes it really hard to not want to push the checkout button  Tongue
