Went through systematically and eliminated each component, power supply is fine, looks like I've figured out the issue, a dodgy MSI card! It was fine when I got it and tested it, worked fine for about 5 days, now is in the process of dying with artifacts during gaming. I've sent it back for warranty (bought it used online, with warranty, how good is that). Also went and bought a new board, asus H270 plus (with Gen1/4G encoding on), what a beast! Asrock gaming boards for this don't seem to be the best.. Anywho, I've managed to get it mining-stable with these 4 cards (sapphire 480, ASUS ROG 480, 2x ASUS ROG 580's), ~111MH/s, however the 580's are such a power hog! I'm getting 135W, running at -100mV, Mem clocks at 2200, core at 1050, running at a toasty 46C  .. Any tips to reduce it further? At least it's down from 170W! |

How many cards are you using per PCI-E connector? You could be overloading the PCI-E rails. Some PSU's can only handle 15-20 A on each PCI-E rail.
I did have one of the 580's and the ASUS 480 on a single cord, however I lowered the power usage. What I'm trying now is one putting in one at a time, on one cord at a time, i've also lowered the power usage by dropping the core voltage by -100mv and decreasing the clocks to 1100, and i've got the 580 + asus 480 on a single cord running just fine (afterburner reports both are drawing 100+67w total). I've got the 580 running at 100w and the 480s at 70 and 80w (abouts). I'm hoping that will solve it, however I need to go buy a new motherboard to try all 5 on one board - so far it looks like I've got 3 working at once, a 580, with the sapphire and asus 480. But I'm not sure that is the issue, simpleminer is giving me errors such as "amdgpu - failed to send message" and all that, which then starts mining and crashes after a few minutes! Ugh.. |

Yeah I did patch the drivers, and tried both modded and unmodded bios, but these cards dont seem to play together nicely. Either my power supply is faulty - which it cant be, it's brand new and afterburner shows a constant stream of power working beautifully for the cards, or the used 480's are screwed, which is highly odd, they work fine by themselves. So maybe it IS the power supply, or the motherboard - or the risers! I tried another board, same issue, but I had the 580's on risers before i got the 480's, and they worked great - which is the reason I bought 3x used 480's to add in!

The default clocks are too high for mining. When mixing cards, you need to find the best core and memory clocks for each card and apply the settings individually in Afterburner. I have a RX 580 8GB, two RX 480 8GB and two RX 570 4GB together on the same rig. I use 1130 - 1150 MHz for the core clock and 1975 - 2025 MHz for the memory clock depending on the card, together with the Uber Mix v3.1 timing strap mod. I also use the latest 17.6.2 driver.
Yup done that, tested each one and underclocked each, then applied when they were all together, yet it didn't work. |

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster with a new rig!
Specs:
o Thermaltake 1200W gold
o ASRock B250-Gaming-K4
o 4GB DDR4 RAM
o Intel i3
o 5x GPU:
o MSI RX 580 stock
o ASUS STRIX RX 480 stock
o Sapphire Nitro + RX 480 stock
o 2x ASUS STRIX RX 580 stock
I tend to use nicehash and simplemining.net intermittently - however i cannot seem to get the 480's to cooperate together and/or with the 580's at all! I've tried uninstalling with DDU multiple times, reinstalling drivers both manually and with the AMD installer, but nothing seems to be working.
I've tested each card individually, and they all mine perfectly fine by themselves. Sometimes the 480's work together fine, same with the 580's, and sometimes they don't!
Sounds like a driver issue to me.. I've tried setting the PCIE to Gen1, tried Auto as well. Also tried bios modding on the cards, but reverted to stock, at least until i get it working!
Anyone got any tips on mixing different gens of cards on a windows install?
