1  Economy / Exchanges / Re: www.BITSTAMP.net Bitcoin exchange site for USD/BTC on: March 09, 2014, 04:39:00 PM
Has anyone had any luck in building a streaming orderbook using the unofficial pusher stream listed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=38711.msg3382580#msg3382580 ?

I am attempting to do this, and planned to download the full order book via the REST API, and then update it with the pusher events.  However, the issue I have not been able to solve is that the REST API full orderbook does not return order IDs, and the pusher stream updates bids and asks using order ideas, and does not give standalone deltas of change when changing an order.  If the pusher events were just add and cancel orders, it would be possible to just add and subtract the appropriate amounts from the appropriate levels in the book.

However, when an order_changed event is received, the pusher stream does not contain information on what the previous amount of the order was, so if the new order is say, bid 100 @ $1000, there is no way to know if the old order was bid 50 @ 1000$, and the appropriate action is to add quantity 50 to the bids at $1000, or of the old order was big 500 @ 1000$, and the appropriate action is to subtract 450 from the bids @ 1000$.  Without an actual delta on order change events, I don't see how it is possible to get an accurate representation of the book.

This doesn't even take into account all of the out-of-sequence message that come through on pusher.

Bitcoinwisdom has the first 15 levels of depth on their site, and I'm not sure if they do it solely via pusher because they have been running pusher so long that they have most orders cached from the original placement of the order, or if they have solved this some other way.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Surely someone has been able to achieve this.

2  Bitcoin / Mining support / Using 1x pci slot on 990FXA-GD80V2 w/ jumper cable - can't get mobo to recogniz on: December 14, 2013, 04:36:13 PM
I am trying to use one of the 1x slots on a 990FXA-GD80V2, but I can't get the mobo to recognize the card via 1x (it works fine on a full slot).  I am using a jumper wire.  I've tried attaching the jumper wire both directly on the mobo slot, and on the riser slot (pictured).  I've tried two different riser cables.  The 7950 I am trying to use DOES work when I plug it directly into a full slot.  I've also been trying this with all other cards removed to rule out any interference, but I can't get the mobo to post with just one card plugged into a 1x slot.  Does it look like my jumper cable is correct?  Is there anything else I should need to do to to use the 1x slot beyond the jumper?

Thank in advance for any advice or things to try -- I've spent hours trying to get this to work with no luck!

3  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as Escrow! Send coins to confirm! on: April 24, 2013, 10:52:11 PM
Oh, ok.  Can one still join in even if they didn't sign up previously?  Is is a matter of who sends the coins in first at this point?

So if we don't get about 270 more BTC contributed before May 1, does everyone just get a refund of their BTC?

We aren't in danger of this, there is a large number of BTC confirmed by people who have been providing adequate communication.

I am mostly concerned about ensuring that we get in the line fast so that we hit the first set and don't get held up by limited bandwidth from TSMC or Avalon.

Nice looking chart, good work!

Projects like buttercoin will be a huge help to smoother exchanges, which will go a long way towards promoting price stability.  However, even buttercoin won't protect against DDOS attacks, which people regularly use to drive the price of BTC down temporarily.  When we have 3 or 4 major exchanges that are rock solid, that will really help!

Sure, there are plenty of alternative SHA256 based currencies out there.  They just aren't compatible with bitcoins because they are on different blockchains.

If you're looking to get an ASIC, look into the group buys if you have electronics experience!  The Avalon chips are now being sold for mounting on custom boards.

A ton of people are going this route by buying from the group buys (zefir, Johnk), etc.  It's a bit of a gamble, because the boards to mount them on aren't even out yet, it is won't be terribly simple to mount them, but ultimately, crowdsourcing the assembly of miners may be the best way to get ASICS in the hands of many miners.  Companies just haven't been able to meet the demand, but there are plenty of people who are good enough with electronics that given a chip and a board should be able to get something working!
