1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin will survive after 100 year ? on: August 12, 2017, 06:02:34 AM
Everyone is of course entitled to their opinions, but, whether we think it's a good thing or not, it's highly likely aging will be cured for wealthy people in the next 15-30 years. If you search for "aging hypothalamus albert einstein college" you'll see that scientists have discovered the aging master switch in the brain's hypothalamus, and that it can go in reverse to reverse aging.

This is not my opinion, this was published in "Nature", the highest impact factor scientific journal in the world. Combined with other breakthroughs in caloric restriction, fasting, metformin, heterochronic parabiosis, and senolytic drugs, and aging will probably die before we do.

Like self driving cars, it's coming whether we like it or not.

I agree population will be a problem in the short term and we better take care of this planet, but there are many studies and a great video on youtube called "Overpopulation – The Human Explosion Explained" which does indicate that the total human population will probably level off at under 10 billion. Many billion too many, but better than 20 billion.

Many developed nations have negative birth rates already (fewer people being born vs people dying); Japan's birth rate is cratering through the floor and they are screwed if they don't reverse aging.

Of course, this is all OT... it would certainly be interesting to see how bitcoin and everyone in this thread has evolved by 2117!

It seems really hard to predict what technology will look like in 30 years, let alone 100. I doubt we'll be using phones and computers as we know them.

AIs will probably be running everything. AI power will be insane in 15 years, forget 100. If bitcoin is going to survive, it will take a lot of changing to keep up with the times.

I'm guessing a non-fiat cryptocurrency will be around in 100 years, but it's hard to predict which one for sure.  I agree, it's just too long of a time horizon.

No, it isn't. While there are people that have become millionaires off of this, it is still vastly unknown to quite a few people.

It's true that most people I know have heard of it but have no idea how to buy coins on exchanges.  Signing up for exchanges, especially with the painful fiat limits on most exchanges, has too much friction.

Definitely a thought provoking idea. While I think many cities and buildings, especially in the old world, will look somewhat familiar, the technological landscape will be quite different in 100 years.  Imagine what "technology" was like in 1917 and then apply exponential computational growth for 2117.

For example, the advent of quantum supremacy will require much of the crypto technologies used in Bitcoin (and most of the web) to be revisited.

I think predicting even 30 years out would be difficult. This is D-wave's latest "quantum" chip, which is not entirely useful, but Goog is shooting for 49 real qubits later this year. Even at 49 qubits, classical encryption is quite safe, but the rate of progress in quantum computing is tremendous.

Of course, the team working on Bitcoin can adapt along the way.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EOS ICO SCAM 👺👺👺 Wow! Can you believe this? 👺👺👺 on: July 07, 2017, 05:46:06 PM
Longtime reader, but felt compelled to post.

It takes guts to swim against the current and I think these viewpoints are important when everyone is going the other direction. Not all ICOs are scams, but EOS's behavior after the first round isn't very reassuring. Thanks for the heads up along with posting the references.
