1  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Mt.Gox Multi-plaintiff Suit on: May 04, 2014, 01:45:08 PM
I have €1700 at Mt. Gox, I'd like to join suit too, but I have 0 knowledge of how the legal system works  Undecided
I wanted to verify my account, but they denied multiple times (I'm not a native speaker and I'm from the EU) they took more than a month to react to my account verification demand. And when I asked for support in verifying my account, they took weeks to respond and weren't helpful at all...

I'm a college student, and that was most of my savings..

Can someone send me some links to learn about bankruptcy and suing for bankruptcy [and how the system works in the EU & Japan]

Any help/info is welcome.
Check regularly on mtgox.com and read the faq's.
Join here http://www.mtgoxrecovery.com/ so you get the emails.

There should be in the future "a filing for proof of claims" which means you have to watch mtgox.com to file the claim by filling the document when necessary.

I've got $916 and 543btc left at gox to put things in perspective...don't eat yourself too much because of your 1700eur you still young and can make yours back easily and much more... just be optimistic and think positively and everything will work out.  Smiley

Cheers.

Thanks, you're right, I won't beat myself up because of it. I joined mtgoxrecovery.com. Thank you for posting the link!

Cheers.

I was reading something about 50BTC having close to 50% or more of mining power? I'm going to make a special note NOT to choose them.

BTCGuild is much closer, check out http://blockchain.info/pools

Ahh there you go. I had the name wrong. Correct me if i'm wrong but we wouldn't want to join a mining pool with too low a hash-rate correct? Then coin discovery becomes less likely? Or more of mere luck over time?

Over a long enough period of time it doesn't matter, but it's nice to be part of a decent sized pool so you get consistent payouts.

Is it something like this:
Big pool[BTC Guild] - steady but low payout
smaller pool[Slush] - less steady but higher payout [more relative shares]

My conclusion is that making predictions about mining is very hard. I hope, like many others that i'll be able to mine enough BTC with my 50Gh/s before the difficulty skyrockets. But i think that in the long run the investment in a miner is smart. Even if all the coins are mined, there are still the fees.

Also even if the difficulty rises, so does the price. So i'm hoping for a "steady" pay-out.

My greatest choice to make is which mining pool to join Smiley

same here Wink
the amount of shares we'll get will be too low.

EDIT: Taking advantage of the huge fluctuations is smart, but not always easy to do.
Also i don't have "deep" pockets, so sitting on a big amount of coins is not possible for me.

Oh well, bitcoins are very interesting Smiley

How many of you have started a Bitcoin business, or would like to start one? To what extent are regulatory expenses and risk part of your thinking?

What about investments? How has it affected your desire to invest in Bitcoin businesses (eg. SatoshiDice)? Have you found it more difficult to raise money?

Interesting questions, weird nobody replied to this.
I'll consider starting a business once i graduate from college Smiley

In my opinion, the BTC  currency needs to be stable before starting a business. At the moment it's not being used as a currency but as an investment. I'll never buy something with my BTC untill the equivalent price in USD is stable.

10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin exchanger loopholes on: April 24, 2013, 07:52:20 PM
It's called "Arbitrage" and it is why the various currency exchanges tend to have similar prices.  Whenever prices get too different between any two or more exchanges, an arbitrage opportunity exists.  Some people take advantage of the arbitrage opportunity. By buying the bitcoins at the exchange where the price is too low, they drive the price up. By selling the bitcoins at the exchange where the price is too high, they drive the price down.  This occurs until the price difference is no longer large enough to cover the cost of the fees and the risk of the price moving while you wait for your funds to transfer between exchanges.

Thank you for the explanation!   Smiley
