Count me in! 1 entry to start with.

I'm wondering though - I have an HTC Desire I don't use anymore but it's a silver one but only black & brown are noted on your website.
Can I still exchange this, and if so - how?
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help me understand Private Keys and the Armory offline wallet on: April 26, 2013, 05:58:45 AM
When you send bitcoins from an address it will send the desired bitcoins to the address you told it to, and any left over bitcoins will be sent to a completely different address.  I believe armory is deterministic in that you don't need to keep track of all the newly created addresses.  But if it doesn't, then a paper wallet won't be sufficient unless you print a new one each time you make a transaction.

Ehm, I believe you have been misinformed that doesn't match any of my bitcoin knowledge.  Where did you learn this from?

How does armory, on the offline computer, know if you have been sent coins? How can the offline computer ever be up to date?  Or am I missing something  Undecided

Ahh! That's simple,, it doesn't know. But on your online pc you can have a read only wallet (since all transactions are public..)
Where you can keep track of it!

Okay, so every wallet has its own public and private keys. I will quickly explain this concept.

Public keys are known to everyone, however private keys are.. private.
You use a private key to encrypt a piece of text and anyone can then decrypt it with the public key.
And since only you known the private key, it can basically be seen as your autograph only then it's safer.

Your private key hence is basically your autograph or password to your wallet. And you can simply write the privately key (s) down as a "backup".

Now what you do with an offline wallet is have two pcs, one offline and one online. First, you create a transaction and sign it on the offline pc. You then transfer the signed transaction (or encrypted text file) to the online pc and transmit it over the network.  Your private keys have never been online and your transaction is complete Smiley.

I'll have to look into bitpay.  But why use bitcoin at all if I'm just going to instantly convert into USD?  Might as well use paypal or a conventional payment processor right?

As far as the fact that it was stable up until 2 months ago.  that's great, but it doesn't help me NOW when I'm considering whether to add an option to pay by bitcoin...

Don't forget! Paypal asks what? 10% fee? I believe bitpay is 1%! Also, no tax as far as I am aware! So, thats a huge plus! Only the decreased cost is totally worth it!
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Confirmed Transactions on: April 25, 2013, 08:58:21 PM
It is dependant on the amount send and related fee. If the fee is too low, it will take very long for it to be confirmed!
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Instability on: April 25, 2013, 08:52:55 PM
Honestly you don't have to care. Using bitpay you can simply set a price in dollars, let people pay in bitcoin and instantly convert it in dollars! And note, once bitcoin gets bigger the fluctuations will only become less! Smiley

If you have wayward Bitcoins send them to ADDRESS REMOVED instead. I could do with a pint as well as Zilarion!

Glad to see others who think the same way! Maybe we should call this the give random people pints post. Would indeed be a more informative and useful post.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: LTC mining question on: April 25, 2013, 08:34:32 PM
I would have no idea why not. They should be based on the same principle.  Although I am not sure if the hashing works exactly the same.

Clearly I know nothing of litecoin. Glad to see others corrected me. Guess you learn every day!

Well, if the person who created it is ignoring it...it will die, plain and simple

However, if a person, such as myself, comes along and cares about it and thinks it's gonna be the next big thing, they are going to do a much better job of looking for interesting articles and trying to spur discussion and interest on the subject!

I'm taking care of my terminal mother and am living at her house in the country with nothing to do, so I think I will be a good mod  Grin

Okay well, fair enough. I wish you the best off luck with your endeavours.

I always wonder, why create more subreddits if one of them isn't doing well already? This only splits up the community even more.
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin Confirmations & Double Spending on: April 25, 2013, 08:03:00 PM
I have a question that just popped into my mind.
We only "confirm" a transaction after 6 confirmations have been made on the said money, right?

Now, however - we also have that bitcoin payments are instant. Now the question here is, how can we make sure no one just pays in a shop or something similar, give said person the goods purchased and then find out later that the transaction would actually be denied (due to double payments or something similar)?

Can someone shed some light on this question?

Cheers, just added one - I actually forgot to add one ^^ If you have any questions, feel free to ask - I am using a HD7970 running GUIMiner

Nice card! Couldn't stretch to that on my budget, it's mainly for games tbh... the mining is a fringe benefit Cheesy

Will send a couple of Satoshi your way now Smiley

Thanks for the donation! My card is mainly for gaming too, although sometimes I just mine some sweet satosihi Smiley
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Subcategories for newbie-section? on: April 25, 2013, 11:26:42 AM
Honestly, I think it is a good idea, but we'll have to see - It's actually just for newbies, and the main forum has categories, so it's just to 'meet' the forum, and get used to how everything works.
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining on Slushs Pool on: April 25, 2013, 11:23:40 AM
You might also want to read up on flags, you probably did something like -w256 -f60 but there are quite a few more, and it's usually great to know what they actually mean! Since they can tweak how you want to mine. Info on it here.

Edit: for a quick overview of all of them, check here

Thanks Smiley I'll have a play with the settings. I'm getting 256Mh/s at the moment which is a hell of a lot more than I was getting before Cheesy

I'll send a donation your way now [Edit] I can't see your address in signature or profile... pm me and I'll send on the donation
