1  Economy / Exchanges / Transfer HKD to Kraken (using EUR) on: August 10, 2017, 03:29:34 AM
Anyone have experience with transferring money from a Hong Kong bank account to Kraken in the most cost effective way?

Within Kraken i use EUR as the default currency and i have HKD in my normal bank account.
I am currently thinking of the following, but unsure if this is the best way?

1) convert HKD to EUR within my current Hong Kong bank
2) transfer EUR to Kraken through SMBC Swift (with a transaction fee of EUR 10)

Thank you in advance

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: August 1- Should I keep my BTC at Coinbase? on: July 28, 2017, 04:42:52 AM
I'm using Kraken
How about i move all BTC to fiat currency instead?
And then buy back BTC whenever i feel like it might be going the right direction?

And also, i have a few other coins like ETH, LTC.
Should i convert them all to fiat or only BTC?

What would be your advice

Thank you

A confused contradiction, should I convert my BTC to Fiat or should I convert my alts to BTC, fiat or BTC? Personally I do believe that Bitcoin price will hit $3K once Segwit gets activated, by the last week of August, not an investment advice, just an intuition.

Bitcoin was and is going in the right direction, if temporary hiccups and price fluctuations means wrong direction then you aren't yet ready for Bitcoin. Funds are yours so choice is yours, you can convert BTC to Fiat or alts to Fiat/BTC, and buy back whenever you feel it is going in the right direction.

Thank you for your reply

The reason for me to wanting to move to fiat is that i 'think' that it will swing up and down with all these uncertainties.
So might as well try and sell at a high price and buy in again at a low price.

There are many stories about coinbase and others moving their btc's to offline wallets, but i do think that the split opens up some interesting day trades too.

Since Coinbase does not support BTCC, would Kraken support both? i could not find much about this

6  Economy / Exchanges / [Bittrex] transfer coin back to BTC on: July 27, 2017, 09:23:40 AM
Hello

I am using Bittrex and am a bit clueless about how to sell off half of my MTL coin back to BTC and then from BTC buying a different coin.
In the wallet i do see both MTL and BTC and both have a plus and minus sign

When i click on the minus sign i need to enter the withdrawal address
When i click on the plus sign on BTC i do see the address but also a notice "Depositing tokens to this address other than BTC will result in your funds being lost."
So what if i transfer from MTL to BTC directly? it will all be lost because it is not a BTC ?
How else am i going to transfer then?

Thank you in advance

i am positive there are no open orders

Have contacted Kraken, but no reply.

After buying bitcoins at a low last week, i haven't touched it ever since.
Yet i notice the same decrease happening with my bitcoins as well!!

So every day the Ledger states a Rollover for Bitcoin (XBT) and each day my Bitcoin decreases with 0.00001

Should i be worried about this or is this normal??

Thank you all for the replies and no there are no open orders.
I have some bitcoins going but this should be separate.
I deposited on the 13th and as of today a total of 3 cents is 'written off'

Yet when i check the ledger, it states there were no transactions or any fees

I have reached out to support to see why this is happening.
It would be interesting if they did this with bitcoins (and other coins) as well..... there is no way to really check i think?

Hello,

I have a kraken account and i deposited some fiat on it.
I did not buy any coins yet (waiting for the right time) but what i noticed is that the fiat value is slowly decreasing by cents!!

So for example, i would have 2000 and then the next day or so it would be 1999.99
It is now at 1999.98 even

Is that normal or something?

Thank you

Yeah its actually safe and secured too.
 All the best!

Is that what many said about MTGox before too? Cheesy

Yeah, get the Trezor Wallet. It's a decently secure Bitcoin wallet. I'd also save your wallet as a paper wallet for full safety.

Get your trezor wallet here: https://trezor.io/

Trump

Thanks, i also noticed the Nano S - https://ledgerwallets.net/
Any experiences on it?

Things are sold out though and by the time i get one in the mail it is already too late Tongue

Thank you all for your valuable insights Smiley
Kraken and Bittrex are nice, but as many stated it is only as safe as MTgox and weird things always happen.

Any recommended desktop wallets? (which are also easy to withdraw and deposit again back to kraken/bittrex when needed?)

Hello all,

Hereby a newbie question (again)
I have coins on Kraken and Bittrex and would like to know if it is 'safe' to keep them there before/after the 1 august date as well.
I did read that cold storage and paper storage are the best, but what if i keep my coins and fiat on those exchanges so i can more easily buy/sell during fluctuations?
How would you keep the coins secure yet flexible to move around?

Thank you

Thank you all for the very valuable insights and tips!

I did eventually sell at a point that i thought was needed and saw the price drop even more.
So bought it back again when it was 'recovering' a bit.
Although i do see it is dropping even more and am speculating if it is going to hit $1800.

This time i will just let it ride and buy more at a low price instead.

i'm one of those newbies Smiley
but does it make sense then to sell all XBT and buy again when it is at its lowest (from my point of view)?

17  Economy / Exchanges / [newb] Buying Bitcoin strategy on: July 11, 2017, 05:45:51 AM
Hello everyone

I just started with Kraken and have a few questions.
I have bought some XBT at a price of $2000 usd before and it is dropping quite a bit today (11 june)

My question is..
1) Lets say the $2000 has dropped to $1000 and i foresee that it will drop even more.
Wouldn't it be wise to tell all XBT now and wait until it is actually at its lowest (to my point of view) and then buy in XBT again with $1000?

2) When people say they are holding onto their XBT regardless of the price, does it mean that they are just letting it ride and hope it just picks up later?
So for example, someone bought it at $2000 and they just let it sit there even if the price goes to $1000 or $0.01 cents (i know this won't happen but it's an example:) )

Thank you
