1  Economy / Securities / Re: [WTB] 2500 Shares of BITVPS on BTC-TC on: May 21, 2013, 01:22:12 AM
Perhaps you could be a little more forgiving to people who are obviously new to the forum. I don't see how I'm screwing anyone out of anything. The total volume is low on this stock and I thought I would catch someone's eye on this forum. If this was in anyway inappropriate I apologize. No harm was meant. I'll just put in a bid on BTC-TC.
2  Economy / Securities / [WTB] 2500 Shares of BITVPS on BTC-TC on: May 20, 2013, 09:47:53 PM
I am looking to purchase 2500 shares of BITVPS on BTC-TC. The reason for posting here is that volume for BITVPS on BTC-TC is low and I'm hoping to find interested sellers who would be willing to deal with me directly. BTC-TC allows for free transfers of assets and bitcoins so deals like this are easy to enact. I am also happy to discuss using an escrow service to enact this trade. As of this writing, the current bid/ask spread is .00061/.000697. Is anyone willing to meet me in the middle and sell at .00065?

Thank you for the swift and detailed responses. It is most appreciated and inspires a lot of confidence.

Not much. We used to rent them. We now have owned servers co-located in New York. We don't have the means to move around. As for server prices, they are published along specs in monthly statements.

In terms of the server specs, I was asking about the actual hardware specs. I can see the prices on the balance sheets, but I can't see what you're getting for those prices. Regardless, I understand that switching server companies is a giant pain and it is off the table as an option right now. If this is something that you guys want to explore in the future, please feel free to contact me.

If you haven't seen our previous website, it was a plain black header/footer with black on white text and a little bit of color. We had no budget for a new design and had to produce one. There is still improvements to come to the current website.

Good to know. I'm glad you guys see having a solid website as a priority and have taken steps to make it better.

I am very happy to hear your responses. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions. I will be looking to purchase shares ASAP. Smiley

Greetings, I have a couple questions as a potential investor.

1. How open are you to investor ideas and help? For example, I am a web developer by trade and my biggest client is a company that specializes in servers and disaster recovery services. Would you be open to publicly or privately releasing the specs on your current servers in the interest of shopping around and trying to find cheaper hosting? I understand you recently moved your servers and I know that can be a pain, but there is a good chance there could be some significant savings.

2. Is there any focus on the company's online image? The current site design is passable, but it's somewhat lackluster. The "About Us" page is totally blank. Both your Twitter and Facebook pages are totally blank. While these things are superficial, unfortunately they actually matter. I do this for a living and there are some basic things you could do to improve the site. Believe me, I know this superficial "online presence" stuff sucks, but it works.

3. Are there any plans to invest in marketing? I think marketing on sites like Reddit that let you advertise directly to a subreddit offer an opportunity to market cheaply to a very targeted audience. On top of this, are there any pushes to land more "big name" sites by giving discounted hosting in exchange for some space on the homepage? Basically, is the current focus to grow solely on word of mouth?

I think you guys are sitting on top of something very big and with a little more attention to marketing and image, things could really take off. People who use BTC have a sense of pride in what they are doing. They believe in BTC for more than monetary reasons, for many there are deep ideological reasons. When I look at your site I see a VPS company that happens to take BTC, I think you guys should be the BTC VPS company. You could use your Twitter feed to post BTC related stories. You could engage on Facebook with BTC related businesses and bloggers. As someone who has researched you, I know that you host Clark Moody's ticker, why not start a small section on the home page of BTC related businesses you currently host? Maybe have an FAQ section where there is an easy explanation on how to buy BTC and give a first free month to people who pay in BTC. There are dozens of little things like this that will help solidify you as the number one BTC VPS service on the net.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on all this.

I purchased shares of ASICMiner from gsan and have received the confirmation email from friedcat. Thanks for selling me my first BTC stock.

I tried asking this in one of the auction threads but got no response, is there any way to verify the people auctioning off direct shares? I would like to make a significant purchase but simply can't due to lack of information. Can someone at ASICMiner (with the seller's permission of course) confirm shares being auctioned are legitimate?

I'm new to this auction area of the site, is there any way for us to confirm you own these shares? Does the company keep a public list?
9  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox API version 2: Unofficial Documentation on: May 02, 2013, 01:10:20 PM
I have two random questions:

1) Is there an advantage to using websockets as opposed to POST requests? Are websockets faster? More secure?

2) What does the price on the ticker actually mean? Is it the price of the last trade that was made before the request was received? Is it an average? If you're calculating EMAs and it is at the end of a given time period, is it best to subscribe to the ticker feed and use that value or subscribe to the trades feed and use the value of the last trade?
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / 100 Days of MtGOX Trading Data on: April 28, 2013, 03:46:07 PM
I have been playing around with the MtGOX API a lot recently. One thing I wanted to accomplish was to get accurate historical data easily. I have no idea if people here are interested in this, but I figured I would share my results. So here it is, 1,413,763 trades over a 100 day period beginning at 01/17/13 @ 6:00:00pm EST and ending at  04/27/13 @ 7:34:16pm EST. This is a CSV file with only the basic data. There are three columns: timestamp, price, volume. I could easily generate a longer history file and include a more complete picture of each trade. If there is substantial interest in something like that I'll take the time to create it. I don't even know if something like this will be useful to people. Enjoy.

11  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox API version 2: Unofficial Documentation on: April 27, 2013, 01:37:16 PM
Sorry about that, I may need to contact mtgox and see if they can help.

You don't need to apologize! I'll see if I can get it to work from that date on. Thanks so much.

UPDATE: It seems to be working fine as long as you don't provide a timestamp before 1309108565.
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox API version 2: Unofficial Documentation on: April 27, 2013, 02:46:14 AM
Can someone help me out, I feel like I'm going crazy here. I've been reading your documentation (which is great, by the way) and I can't seem to make even the basic calls work predictably. I'm trying to get some historical data. For testing reasons, I've started at 'since=0'. This url:

https://data.mtgox.com/api/2/BTCUSD/money/trades/fetch?since=0

properly returns trades. The timestamp of the first trade is "1279408157" which is a date of  07/17/10 @ 6:09:17pm. The timestamp of the last trade is "1282128968" which is a date of 08/18/10 @ 5:56:08am EST. Now if I take that last timestamp and attach that to the url:

https://data.mtgox.com/api/2/BTCUSD/money/trades/fetch?since=1282128968

the first timestamp of the first trade is "1309108565" which is a date of 06/26/11 @ 12:16:05pm EST. I've also tried using microseconds as suggested by the api but that returns the same thing. The url:

https://data.mtgox.com/api/2/BTCUSD/money/trades/fetch?since=1282128968000000

returns the same thing as above. I've tried other timestamps from the first response and the all point to this 06/25/11 set of trades.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: April 26, 2013, 08:57:13 PM
I recently posted this thread in the 'Newbies' forum:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=188597.0

It is about connecting to MtGOX's API. It's more of a programming question than a 'newbie' question. I would love for the right people to see it. Thanks.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Issue Connecting To MtGOX API v2 on: April 26, 2013, 08:05:39 PM
Greetings all. I am having issues connecting to the MtGOX API v2. I keep getting the following error:

"login_error_missing_nonce"

This error is reported in this thread here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164404.msg1852502#msg1852502

Eventually being solved here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164404.msg1853109#msg1853109

I have read and re-read that thread over and over and I can't apply that solution to my code. I am coding in Go and have come up with a basic script to call "money/info". Here is the code:

Code:
func main() {
  // generate data string
  t := time.Now()
  nonce := t.UnixNano() / 1000
  data := fmt.Sprintf("nonce=%d", nonce)

  // create the hash data
  hashData := []byte("BTCUSD/money/info" + "\x00" + data)

  // create the Rest-Sign for the header
  secret, _ := base64.StdEncoding.DecodeString(APISecret)

  s := hmac.New(sha512.New, secret)
  s.Write(hashData)

  hmac := s.Sum(nil)
  restSign := base64.StdEncoding.EncodeToString(hmac)

  // format the data string for the request
  postData := strings.NewReader(data)

  // create the http connection
  client := &http.Client{}
  request, _ := http.NewRequest("POST", "https://data.mtgox.com/api/2/BTCUSD/money/info", postData)

  // add customer headers
  request.Header.Set("User-Agent", "LuckyTime")
  request.Header.Set("Rest-Key", APIKey)
  request.Header.Set("Rest-Sign", restSign)
  request.Header.Set("Accepted-encoding", "GZIP")

  // send out request and print response
  response, _ := client.Do(request)
  defer response.Body.Close()

  body, _ := ioutil.ReadAll(response.Body)
  fmt.Printf("%s\n", body)
}

APIKey and APISecret are global variables that are properly set. I have adjusted the length of the nonce variable as recommended by the linked thread and nothing changes. I am clearly providing the nonce value. I have tried creating a new API key and secret multiple times so it's not that I messed up a nonce value on a specific key. I have no idea why this isn't working. Any help is most appreciated.
