1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is this a bad time to invest in AMD GPUs for mining altcoins? on: July 18, 2017, 09:23:04 PM
lol tune out all the clueless people?

OP is clueless himself and is too lazy to spend his own time researching to find out its obviously a bad idea to get involved because of a distorted perception caused by the recent spike in mining profitability, much less come up with his own opinion.

ask yourself this simple question: are you ok with making nowhere near the returns we've seen and don't mind doing it as a hobby? if so, then dive right in. Because you are LATE.

But if this endeavor was something you were really passionate about you'd have spent your own precious time on due diligence to arrive at this conclusion.

Of course this is not the case. You are just a lazy johnny come lately who thinks he can shortcut and leapfrog off other people's time and efforts, expecting others to serve you useful information on a silver platter.

Lump me into the angry reply category because you had to mention you preordered gpus and now thinking about cancelling it. That is infuriating!

Either get up to par and realize there's no easy money in this or accept that you are always a step behind and consider it reasonable to receive poor results from your lazy efforts.

by crypto standards your holdings are very conservative and i think redundant to a degree.

maybe have 50-80% in just a few of the top 10 coins

the rest in dozens of shxtcoins that aren't on big exchanges yet

IMO worst case the shxtcoins go to zero in few years, but your major holdings will have 2-3x by then so youre still winning compared to any other investment

while really theres a good chance just 1 of the dozens of the shxtcoins you bought goes 100-1000x

rub hands together while cashing out like smart money does (selling to dumb money that gets in late on big exchanges)

The issue should be solved, please re-evaluate and report back - thanks for helping!

So far so good on that front Grin

The hashrate slowly declines now. Is this normal?

ccminer-alexis78, 1080ti rigs at 60%TDP, celeron cpu, 4gb ram

i noticed that the miner would hang after certain stratum difficulty adjustments. after 5-10 minutes of no activity (and gpu power usage drops to idle) i see that the worker drops off the mining-enthusiast dashboard.

thinking the miner crashed, i tried to solve by running a script to restart the miner every 1200 seconds.

this causes a new problem where in some sessions the miner will start up and get reduced MH/s (~20-40 compared to 170) and it either stays that way through the session or very slowly increments up towards normal expected hashrate (taking up to 15 minutes to reach it).

ive played around with intensity and core OC but the problem still occurs.

Should I just let the miner hang? I've never let it sit there for longer than 10 minutes to see if it will resume. Ive noticed a few times it resumes after 5-7 minutes...i guess ill have to wait and see.
