1  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: DIY miner software (miner from scratch) on: November 09, 2013, 05:32:33 AM
if you're trying to make it portable, you'll wanna stay away from obj-c, unless you want gnustep as a requirement.. java has enough to make it cross platform.

a java miner has already been done - diablominer. you should take a look at that.

my miner uses the getwork protocol, most pools prefer stratum. it allows the mining client to generate more work for its miners per request, and is just generally better. you should read the protocol description, it's fairly exhaustive..!

thanks,

i wrote a CPU and OpenCL miner from scratch, in C, with no libraries.

it's not as fun as you might think. http is easy to hack together in any language (although the edge cases are.. bleh). once you get your head around the endian changes and stuff, it's really simple.

cgminer is a monster, so i don't blame you.

3  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Group Buy#1] Avalon ASICs CHIPS! Using JohnK as escrow! FINISHED! on: October 22, 2013, 06:49:59 PM
paid in 5.5btc, got 5.34 back. not quite what i expected, but i see there was something about fees.

don't want to argue about it, and if you do come up with the extra .16btc, you can keep it. i'd hate to have been in your position.

shame this didn't go through in the end, but what can you do.

thanks,

If being angry at raging makes me feel better, than I can't say I'm ashamed.

what are you going to achieve with it? is it going to get us our refunds faster? is it going to get us the ASICs?

I'm honestly indifferent to him and if you asked me in real life, I would just say I was disappointed in him.

well then act like it. you both pertained to be authoritative about organising this. when you act like this, you come across as hormonal 15-year-olds who didn't get their way, not as someone people are going to want to potentially do business with in the future.

shit happens. we can deal with it like rational adults or we can name-call and cry.

now, can we all please just stop complaining, and wait for JohnK to do his stuff?

thanks,

this is fucking pathetic. can everyone just stop behaving like children, for like, five minutes, please?

i get we're all pissed off about what's happened, but no amount of bickering and hostility is going to change that. he's said he's sorry, and that's all he can do. we should just be glad we're getting our money back.

all of you involved in the hating should be ashamed of yourselves.

right guys, ragingazn628 messed up, we get it.

can we stop being abrasive and rude to him please? it's pathetic. we're getting our refunds, we just need to wait on johnk getting them to us.

i couldn't care less about the sample chips. 32*300mh isn't game-changing hash power. grind them up and snort them, if you think you'd have a good time with it.

thanks,

tysat, i understand -what- the restrictions are, i was asking because i kind of need to reply asap.

i wanted to place a 10btc contribution to the avalon ASIC group buy, however, i think it's too late now. i'm not going to be able to reply for another 3 hours, and there's only 11btc left (it was 30 when i joined).

yee haw.

thanks,

the SHA hashing involved in bitcoin mining has literally no data overhead. the crossfire and SLI links from AMD and nvidia, are all about data transfer between two GPUs rendering images.

so no, crossfire is not going to make a difference, i'm afraid!

13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GPU temperature comparsion for fun! on: April 27, 2013, 02:15:52 PM
i have a lot of 5870s with the coolers replaced with artic acelero coolers, which are near silent.

have one clocked at 990,330 and can manage 62C, have another that can just manage 900,300, temperature at 79C..

i think it's really down to luck.

thanks,
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which wallet are you using? on: April 27, 2013, 02:13:06 PM
bitcoin-qt. the whole point of bitcoin is to be able to remove trust from third parties, so to me, it doesn't really make sense to use anything else.

thanks,

i signed up to bitcointalk to get involved in a conversation on another sub-forum.

is there anything i can do to post there? i don't really have anything to say in the newbie forum.. :/

thanks,
