1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who should be in control of Bitcoin's blocksize (poll) on: April 04, 2017, 02:36:22 PM
Blocksize is an extremely overrated issue.

Doubling the blocksize at most will mean maximum theoretical transactions might increase from 7 to 14 transactions per second.

It won't make a difference. It won't solve issues with fees or unconfirmed transactions.

Its not worth it in terms of risk versus reward.

Of course it will make a difference. Fees and the number of unconfirmed transactions correlate quite well with block space usage. But a conservative one-time increase of say doubling to 2MB is not enough. Segwit is not enough either.

We need a something like the 3rd option, but don't think Core would endorse anything like that on-chain. Choosing the algorithm for that shouldn't be done by the developers, they aren't the proper stake holders here. Developers shouldn't have any kind of decision power except by way of technical consulting.

I get 465 h/s with a Xeon E5-2670v2 and with "-t 11" parameter on Windows. And this with the CPU drawing only 58W. Happy with the efficiency  Grin

Took the easy gains first, around 18% boost on 750 Ti. Still trying to wrap my head around the hard part.

...more performance gain than I thought. really nice. thanks!

What's the power usage per GPU with the new build? It seems GPU's are getting close to Xeons in efficiency.

I installed the last nvidia driver and ccminer x15 still not working on my GTX690

Works for me. Getting around 5500 khash/s with a pair of GTX690's. I'm using an old driver though. GPU utilization fluctuates between 70% and 99%.

What is your command line?

 Cool

Pretty much a copypaste of the test.bat file that was included in the binary package. Which was:

Code:
x86\ccminer.exe -a x15 -o stratum+tcp://bbl.suprnova.cc:3663 -u Miyu.1 -p x

So even this doesn't work for you? My GPU kernel delay (TdrDelay) was modified to 40s, don't know if this helped here.
which driver version are you using (may-be that will help)

From the device manager: 9.18.13.2660, dated 9.8.2013.

I installed the CUDA 6.0 toolkit with the included drivers, but it seems the GPU driver part didn't go through.

How can i change the TdrDelay?

Thanks

It was mentioned in some bounty thread here. Save this in a .reg file and open it in Windows exporer:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers]
"TdrDelay"=dword:00000028

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain 2.0 – Let a Thousand Chains Blossom on: April 12, 2014, 02:50:30 PM
Blockchain 2.0 is based upon an economic fallacy of a 'scarcity race'

Can you explain why it is a fallacy.

It implies that only one 'coin' can be supported by the market and perpetuates the myth that bitcoin is money instead of realizing the bitcoins are shares in a company called Bitcoin and that these shares are being used as money.   Gold does not stop being a metal just because it was used as money, and bitcoins don't stop being digital bearer shares just because they are being used as money.   There can be many companies in the market and new startups will almost always demand fresh equity distribution based upon actual investment.  Somehow I don't see Bitcoin shareholders investing in revolutionary ideas, instead I see them attempting to assert ownership over all ideas in this space forever with the same kind of threat that Microsoft makes which is to copy innovation and steal the rewards from the innovators.

The only thing I can understand the term 'scarcity race' to mean is the 'race to be most highly in demand'.... but the fallacy with the term is the assumption that it is a 'race' and 'winner take all' and this assumption is more revealing about the mindset and intent of the creators to monopolize the industry rather than support free market competition.

If I had to describe the BLockchain 2.0 proposal in terms of the DAC metaphor, then it represents the Core Developers & Miners intent to become the Microsoft of DACs promoting an inferior product built on top of an existing "monopoly" and threatening to copy the innovation of competitors and bundle it with Bitcoin.

Perhaps they should focus on cross-chain-trading and interoperability with others in the industry rather than attempting to build vendor lock-in and introduce barriers to entry.

The analogy fails. You can't compare a major established company to an experimental "crypto-corporation". There can't be such thing as vendor lock-in just yet. We'll see about that in 10 years or so.

The purported lack of innovation is irrelevant at this point. What's more important is to first fix the existing problems in the infrastructure like the lack of properly working exchanges. This proposal promises to fix at least some of the problems while still leveraging the existing infrastructure. I think this a great way to move forward. At least this is far better than creating yet another altcoin with questionable real-world advantages over bitcoin.
9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S1 availability on: April 05, 2014, 10:39:28 AM
Any idea when the Antminer S1 will become available again?
it's only 180 ghs, what you gonna use it for?
LOL. You do understand that you can buy several of them if you want more hash power? There really isn't anything better on the market right now if ROI is your main concern. Even the S2's are worse.

I'm assuming this is just a temporary availabilty issue for the S1's, but I could be wrong as Bitmain might want to concentrate on the S2's.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is anyone else concerned that 43% of the hashrate is from an unknown source? on: April 02, 2014, 08:57:12 PM
This Dave Carlson guy produces probably close to 10% of the unknown hashrate. So I wouldn't be that worried yet.

Dave carlson mines with BTCguild.
   MegaBigPower   500,921.75 GH/s

Yes, but this should account for only a fraction of his hashrate. That's "only" around 1% of the current total network hashrate.

I can't withdraw BTC either, but for different reasons. The link in the withdrawal confirmation email doesn't work (gets me to regular Bitstamp login). Same thing happens if I try to disable the email confirmation.
13  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5970 2nd GPU woes on: May 10, 2011, 07:11:40 PM
TheManOfTown, I think it's not necessary to disable Crossfire. But on Windows 7 you have to have both GPU cores attached to a monitor or a dummy VGA.

For me the working solution was to Use Diablo miner and have Catalyst Control Center not running (I disabled it with msconfig.exe).
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to use --platform flag for poclbm on: May 05, 2011, 08:45:55 AM
Thanks, but I found a solution by using Diablo miner. Diablo seems to use a flat OpenCL device enumeration, without a platform flag. In my case the 5970 cores are devices 5 and 6, whereas devices 1 to 4 are the cores of my two Nvidia GTX 590 cards. Combined hash rate is around 1 GHash/s.

And I can play with Quad SLI with the same system. Perfect  Grin

The only minor problem I have is that I have to disable the ATI devices in Control Panel in order to use PhysX. But I guess this can be done by a script as well.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to use --platform flag for poclbm on: April 30, 2011, 03:42:20 PM
Hi.

I have Nvidia cards in addition to an ATI 5970 as well. I'm having problems getting the second core to mine. I'm using the option "New OpenCL miner" and selecting rpcminer-opencl.exe. I've used flags -platform 1 and tried -gpu and -d flags, but the software allways only loads one ATI core according to GPU-Z. If I run two instances with different -gpu or -d flags, the per client client hash rate gets halved.

Only Catalyst driver 11.3 works for me, the other ones I've tried give me OpenCL errors. Can anyone give me some advice on which driver versions and flag settings that work?
