1  Economy / Economics / Re: Degree in Finance on: August 13, 2017, 03:45:30 PM
Hi, does anyone here have knowledge on Finance? I need help with a question regarding Duration Gap Analysis. Thank you Smiley

I have a degree in Finance...not that I think that makes much of a difference to be honest.  What question did you need help with?

Q: A Bank has 50 million in Assets and 40 million Liabilities, with a DUR.L = 2.5 years. Supposed the banks own Assets depreciate by 2% (NW/A= -0.02) when the interest goes from 5% - 6%.

a) What is the Duration Gap

b) What is the Duration on the Assets.

How am I supposed to know the duration gap when I have no idea of the duration on the Assets? The correct answer to a) 2,1053 and b) DUR.A= 4,1053.

Thank you in advance!

I just bought 40 ICNs is it a good long term investment? I'm not a trader.
Long term? Yes, i believe so. They have a good team, and a great idea. Plus they just teamed up with some good money.  But only time will tell. In my opinion, the chances of this going wrong at the moment are rather slim.

Will there be better investments than ICN? I have no idea, I´m spreading my investments, ICN gets quite a bit in percentages Smiley.
I just put 15% of my portfolio on ICN. I think that's enough for now Smiley

Looks like Waves is all set to breach it's ATH during this bull run. Many people are asking what is the news on for this rise. I would suggest them to follow Sasha on telegram, he post almost everyday. And that you'll keep apprised on the project updates.
How do I add him on telegram?

So I just installed the lite wallet, everything has gone smooth thus far. I'm really new to all of this and would want some help. What exchange do you guys recommend me using? I have heard a lot about Bittrex, but why not use something like Shape Shift? Is it because of the fees, or does Bittrex have fees aswell? I have my money loaded up on Kraken right now, so I guess I have to buy something there and send it over to another exchange and trade for Waves.

The whole market looks really inflated right now. Do you think that $3 is something that will happened soon? The last weeks have only been pumps and I'm hoping for a dip. I have watched the market for 2 months now and there has certainly been times where I wish I could have bought.

Good job on making your decision to include yourself in the Waves community. Right now, I'm mainly using Bittrex when I got the chance to trade Waves/BTC pair. You could also use the DEX inside Wave's lite wallet. It is a Decentralized Exchange where you can trade Waves and other tokens agains BTC, USD, and EUR. They just recently added ETH support there.

In terms of when to buy (price-wise), I think this is still a very good time to buy waves. Few days ago would be the best opportunity but the price right now is still cheap. Just bear in mind that you should see this as a long-term investment. And do your own research accordingly.
Thanks!

Is the Lite client safe within itself? I have created a very long and difficult password and saved it somewhere secure. Is this enough to be secure?

I also don't understand the thing about "Waves fee". Do I only need to pay for the fee when I'm trading within the Lite Wallet? What if I buy from an exchange and send Waves to my Lite Wallet?

Just so I understand 100%: When I request a withdraw I use my Public key, that's from the Wallet I'm using, in Kraken and the coins will be sent to that wallet. Then I save the Private keys in a safe place so whenever I lose my wallet or my Mac doesn't work anymore, I can still download the wallet on another PC and use the Private key as an authenticator for my coins and all my coins will be in the new wallet?

And exporting the private key is a way of saving the key in a safe place in case something happens. And importing private keys is used when I wanna recover my coins on a different wallet?

Hi! I have two questions:

Ledger Nano S
I just received the Ledger Nano S and to my surprise there is no Desktop app, is the only way to access the wallet via Chrome app? I don't like chrome, I run safari. Do I have to install chrome just so I can use the ledger? I run mac. Also is there a iOS app so I can have the coins with me on my phone?

Private Key
So the private key is like the key to my coins right? And the public key is how people can send my coins etc?

If I buy coins off of Kraken, how do I then send them to my wallet (Ledger or Exodus)? Will I receive a private or public key with my purchase, I really don't understand. Or is the private and public key saved within the Wallet itself? And what do people mean by importing or exporting private keys?
17  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you distinguish a BULL from a BEAR market? on: August 02, 2017, 05:56:32 PM
Well, you are looking for some entry point to invest, as cheap as possible to get more return in the future.
May I ask, how long you've planned to hold it? I have no doubt about saving bitcoin for long term, even for years as it will grow even bigger than current price.
But, which one of many altcoins, that you want to invest on? Eth, bcash, dash, monero? In my opinion, altcoins doesn't worth to hold for long term, it is a trading object which fluctuate a lot and more profitable in short term, maybe around 1 months and then sell it.
Bitcoin and altcoins prices seems at higher point right now, and I suggest to wait until it drop to $2500.
How to distinguish it? Nothing for sure, look at the charts and news which state about what's coming.
The cycle always repeated, after it rise, it will fall soon.
Thanks man! I have currently $1000 to invest and I plan to put in another $1000 every month soon. For bitcoin, I want to hold as long as possible. I don't have any use for the money right now given that I'm in college, so holding BTC for at least a couple of years if not more.

The alts I'm interested in are Iconomi, Waves, Stratis, Golem, NEM. Why wouldn't you recommend me holding these for the long run? I believe these coins won't be fully fleshed out until mass adoption, which would take years, so the longer the better right?

But I agree, the alt market looks inflated right now.

What we're in is a topsy turvy market,  with characteristics of both bull
and bear markets.  I think the wall street definition is 10% growth for a year
or something like that.   So if I had to pick, I'd say we're actually in a
bulk market.   But in either case,  if I was you, I'd be buying.   I suspect
we've got more than 10% growth coming for the rest of the year and beyond.
But thats the thing! I too believe that in a year my investment will be worth a lot more weather I invest today or next month. My concern is to get as much return as I can.
19  Economy / Economics / How do you distinguish a BULL from a BEAR market? on: August 02, 2017, 05:13:30 PM
I have for 1 week hesitated to get into the Crypto market because I'm very new to Crypto investing and I don't want to make misstakes (which paradoxically is how you learn to invest). I have money loaded up on the exchange market and it's waiting there for me to buy something with it. My plan is to put 50% in BTC and 50% in alt coins, but I'm afraid to miss a Bear market. I'm NOT a trader, I'm in for the long run so maybe I should worry to much about timing the market?

Can any of you people here give me some solid advice?
20  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kraken.com Slow Due To August 1?? on: August 01, 2017, 12:47:12 PM
I doubt it's a DDOS attack and just because everyone is panicking/getting excited about what is going to happen with the price. You should have put your orders in already to avoid this though.
Orders? You mean choosing a price that the computer will buy for you automatically when it reaches said price on Kraken? I didn't know you could do that haha
