1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CBT] CommerceBlock Decentralised Financial Infrastructure on: January 19, 2018, 01:41:59 PM
My CBTs are doing very well! up like 3X from ICO, can't wait for bigger exchanges.

Excited for the Hip property announcement, a massive vertical for CommerceBlock to tackle.

BTC

Nice! Me too. this is really going to be a good project for this year!

What else is in the Pipeline folks?
things going well with the team? Smiley

Things are going great, we are busy growing the team, building our sidechains for tokenization of assets, revamping our website, expect more news on our blog soon.

I saw some news about lightning network recently, is this relevant to this project?

Yes it's, CommerceBlock sidechains are pegged to bitcoin network, so adding lightning network will be natural extension once the tech matures.

You mentioned there's no masternodes, but what is required other than a server to run a sidechain for payment in CBTs? Would it require a certain number of CBTs?

Yes, in order to run a sidechain participants need to hold and lock CBTs, the sidechains are PoS based. nodes running the sidechain will collect fees in CBT, in addition in the future will offer services that will run on top of sidechain to offer more advanced trade and commerce tools these services will collect CBTs as well.

Any plans for mining this coin?

We have PoS based systems, we are planning to launch PoS based sidechains, fees will be payable in CBTs, next we will offer complementary services for commerce and trading on top of sidechains that will be possible to join and earn CBT tokens as well.

As it's a PoS based system does that mean there might be CBT masternodes in future too?

We don't have that, sidechains will be managed by federation of functionaries, PoS is used for two purposes signing blocks and evolving consensus rules on the network.

What is the usage of CBT? what kind of services?

We offer variety of services for businesses, from managing public sidechains and all the orchestration to trading and commerce tools on top of these sidechains, CBT is the token used to pay for these services.

What is the usage of these sidechains?

I think the sidechains can be private if required by the customers. They can create tokens on it and have more control over everything this way. The customers would pay in CBT for the services (sidechains, smart contracts etc)
This is my understanding. Please correct me if wrong Cheesy

So why not just use ERC20? the issuer can still control the smart contract.

Is it because ERC20 doesn't provide the same privacy functionality as BIP175 can?

This is another advantage, privacy is a challenge in Ethereum in general since it's account based with no confidentiality at all.
CommerceBlock sidechains offer better privacy in several aspects, one is confidential transfers where the amount and asset type is blinded, second is the ability to embed external data into addresses in private manner using BIP175.

What is BIP175?

BIP175 is proposal that we have submitted last year to the bitcoin community, it is based on academic paper Pay to Contract and Homomorphic Addresses, the BIP is an extension to the Hierarchical Deterministic Wallets protocol (BIP32), it adds support to associate data to bitcoin address, here is more info about it github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0175.mediawiki
We have built a simple invoicing app to demonstrate this concept, you can access it here https://trade.commerceblock.com

ICO went very smoothly, thanks for the updates on your blog posts & telegram.

When do you plan to launch the first set of sidechains

We're planning to launch by end of Q2 this year.

There are several advantages for issuing tokens on public sidechain vs ERC20 in many use cases.
1. Flexibility and control: in some markets there is heavy regulation and compliance required (AML/KYC), the ability to control the sidechain in certain conditions is mandatory by regulators.
2. Efficiency: sidechain fees model is flexible, owners can use their own native token or bitcoin or CBT as a "gas", the fees are set to make it competitive, and since this POS based rather POW, it's much cost effective.
3. Interoperability: CommerceBlock sidechains will be interoperable with bitcoin and ethereum blockchain (CBT token)

Volume is increasing on EtherDelta by the day. I'm not selling yet though lol Tongue
This is a long term hodl imo.

Just needs some kind of passive income.  Grin

From what I understand you will have that opportunity by running a sidechain that gets paid in CBTs.

If my understanding is right?

I Believe CBTs will be rewards for assisting the networlk in general. Securing sidechains, performing smart contracts etc.
Correct?

Correct, CBTs will be rewards/fees for various services, managing the sidechains which includes global network availability, securing with specialized hardware, on top of these sidechains will provide services and smart contracts functionality that are payable in CBTs.

Looking forward to getting stuck in!
Any idea when these things will be implemented?
Would love to see an updated roadmap Cheesy

We will be focusing on sidechains for most of 2018, we are planning to have first network by end Q2, after that we will be working on adding the advanced services on top.
We are working on updating website and the information, we will release a new one in the upcoming weeks.

why were you creating another new ANN thread for this CBT?
i bookmarked that page but i tried clicking that page in my firefox and prompts me error. you guys are quick in adding links in your website which led me to this new thread again. there is nothing wrong with your  previous ANN thread, why create another?  how much funds had been collected so far?

Original ANN thread was removed by forum admins.

We have sold 35.3% of the tokens.

So will you burn 64.7% of tokens? How does the burn work is it to a fake address or something?

Take it you can't say exchanges yet?

It's a burn address, this is the tx link https://etherscan.io/tx/0x57ed51782ed27588b2c110285ca981f9a7e19f6b3afc02bc106b69b0d1ee05e2
14  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Need a new bitcoin with Turing complete smart contract on: December 04, 2017, 10:01:09 AM
it's very tempting to say turing complete language will solve everything, theoretically it's true, in practice it's not the best option, since it will also open up an infinite attack vector, logic is simple, if you have infinite possibilities, you will need to deal with infinite attacks.
On the other hand, here is a great talk presented by Russell O'Oconor https://youtu.be/TGE6jrVmt_I where he explained in more details why turing complete is not a good option, delta 0 formulas might be expressive enough to build secure and useful blockchain language that's verifiable with no halt problem.
Recently a paper called 'Simplicity' published by blockstream that discuss this approach more, this allows safer and verifiable smart contracts.

17  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Evilness in the fees on: November 24, 2017, 02:39:09 PM
Totally most wallets are nonsense in fees calculation, I use 50 sat/byte or even less, usually tx get confirmed in day or two.
18  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: brain wallets - good or bad on: November 24, 2017, 02:34:32 PM
very bad, we are humans we have tendency to forget, keep it simple, write on a piece of paper.
19  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Blockchain technology vs. MySQL or other decentralized databases on: November 24, 2017, 02:33:13 PM
it depends on your view, I think blockchain as a concept is overhyped, I see blockchain as a verifiable linked list, which is pretty inefficient in terms of performance for vast majority of applications, but for bitcoin it makes sense because scalability is secondary to trustless and censorship resistant qualities, for most applications Apache software is probably a better choice.
20  Economy / Economics / Re: Why the anti government on: November 20, 2017, 07:13:47 PM
I don't think it's about anti government, it's the opposite, it's for the government, bitcoin is a form of monetary system that works pretty good for the last 9 years, so arguably you can say if a government relies on this monetary system rather than having their own, this government will be smaller and more efficient, think of it as out sourcing the monetary control back to the public, which is good, because then government can focus on other important aspects like education/health/infrastructure... in the same way you can say it will make banks more efficient, no need for layers over layers over layers, all of us can have access to the base layer and transact without any permission, banks in crypto era will become more like a utility providers, and this our primary focus on CommerceBlock to provide the blockchain infrastructure for the utility providers of the future.
