1  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S9 Volt Rocket Ship firmware mod! ~ALL S9 MODELS INCLUDING S9i S9j~ on: November 03, 2018, 09:55:46 PM
Latest firmware should fix hashratedrops, like Bitmain says.

It certainly does (thank fucking god)

No decrease in hash rate, running for ~4-5 hours.

With other ASICBoost firmware i was seeing hash rate drops by this time already.
2  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S9 Volt Rocket Ship firmware mod! ~ALL S9 MODELS INCLUDING S9i S9j~ on: October 23, 2018, 08:53:47 PM
anyone do an "at-the-wall" number to see if this LPM whatnot is actually making any difference? I'm curious if the % claim they are making is accurate

I haven't personally done it, but ASICBoost is nothing new. There's a few miners out there that have been using it for a while now, and Bitmain has been using it covertly ever since they ripped off the patent owner. There's covert ASICBoost, where you can't tell when someone's using it (which is what Bitmain did for a LONG time) and then there's overt ASICBoost which people can tell you're using.

Bitmain claimed for a long time they didn't use it, but they're full of shit, as they usually are about most things they say as a company. But they're the kings of the market. They can get away with that shit.

It's only pressure from other mining manufacturers, and the final nail in the coffin, Slushpool announcing that their Braiins OS for Antminer's will support overt ASICBoost out of the box, for free, that forced Bitmain's hand in releasing the firmware ahead of time so they look like the good guys.

The claims are true though. You should be doing about 1250W at the wall.

EDIT: I should say though, you do save ~10-13% in electricity but i've noticed about a 3-5% drop in hash rate as well.

That's why i've been so keen to see if Tazer's modifications to bmminer can be replicated for ASICBoost. use that 13% power savings to get 14.5-15.5 TH out of the machine at the same ~1350-1400W (Hopefully)
3  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S9 Volt Rocket Ship firmware mod! ~ALL S9 MODELS INCLUDING S9i S9j~ on: October 23, 2018, 11:51:40 AM
Has anyone figured out if you can use the ASICBoost Firmware with the bmminer from Tazer?

I noticed that bmminer is replaced with the LPM firmware. My assumption is that changes are made to bmminer that have to do with ASICBoost and Tazer will need to (if he so humbly chooses to) update his Voltage changing bmminer's to be modified off the new file.

It sure would be nice to take advantage of the 13% power savings and use that 13% to overclock the miners. I have all 1600W PSUs, so to be able to get something like 15TH when i was getting 13.5, for the same wattage would be a dream.

My machines are collocated otherwise I'd try all this myself. I'm a part owner in the collocation company but we're out in Idaho and i live in CT, so it's not exactly easy to get a power read-out from my machines to see if ASICBoost is doing its job AND the voltage/frequency changes take effect.

Any information anyone has would be GREATLY appreciated.

Oh, and if you haven't heard, Slushpool took care of things. The new firmware works on their pool now. All we need now is some new bmminer's for the voltage tuning based on Shitmain's new Firmware and replace of bmminer.

Thanks so much!

Shawn

There were some people here who messaged me about a collocation service I was moving my miners to way back in May, out in Idaho.

I've since moved my machines there (drove them across the country). They've also made me a partner in the business as their "In House Mining Guru" (maaaaaan i hate that title), but it's pretty nice to get a percentage of the business for simply consulting and doing what i love, which is educating on mining.

Aaaaanyways, if anyone's looking to collocate give me a shout. Our site is www.sixdegreescrypto.com.

We're not actively marketing right now due to the market conditions and wanting our customers to be more than satisfied. We feel if we bring in customers who haven't mined before or don't already own their own equipment that they wont be satisfied. We're waiting for the next gen Bitmain miner or some serious market changes in the positive. Kano miners, in my opinion are educated miners so not only do i feel they know the risks, i feel they'll be the best customers. I didn't quite ask my CEO before making this post but writing one in Kano's forum was always part of the plan. And since the site went live a few weeks ago and there's a whole boatload of investment money to be paid back before i even start to realize my portion of the business, i figured I'd post this anyways lol.

We have 42 machines there currently with a capacity of (I believe I'd have to check with my engineer) 450 machines. We are already working on bringing our second location live and we have a sister company in Canada with a location.

again, we're transparent. We're paying .067 cents per kWh, and the hosting rates on the website are negotiable based on volume and, well, how badly our CEO wants to fill the room. So the first few customers we sign on will get decent deals. Not only that but I signed a worse contract than what's currently being offered, and I'm still 100% on the hook for it. Signing up right now will get you a better deal than even myself, a partner is privy to (which actually kinda hurts a bit lol). Even worse than my pricing, I'm locked in a one year contract whereas i believe our current structure is month to month with discounts for signing contracts of varying time lengths.

Any questions feel free to reach out to me here or reach out via the contact form on our website. We've got some photos of facility and the only reason i mention that is because the collocation space seems to be rife with scammers.

I feel like I have a responsibility to respond to your post about Six Degrees Crypto and I'm really not trying to be mean or anything.  It sounds like Six Degrees Crypto might be a good place to consider but their pricing model is simply way too high for any hope of making a profit for anyone except maybe those that are buying only the new machines based on 7nm technology like the Avalon 921s or Bitmain's upcoming offerings.  If you look at any earnings calculator a single S9 or 841 is expected to earn $85.79 per month right now so how can they charge $130 (before electricity costs) for an S9 or $125 for an 841?  Even an Avalon 921 is expected to earn only $139.80 per month at the current BTC price/Diff and it draws 1800W.  Am I missing something here?

It might be wise to let potential customers know that the prospects for earning a profit with current generation equipment is impossible to do unless BTC prices goes up quite a bit in the near future.  If you don't take this precaution, Six Degrees Crypto would simply be scamming folks that don't understand the lack of earning potential of their machines...

EDIT:  To be fair, Six Degrees Crypto has not officially opened their doors for business and the pricing on their web site is not finalized by any means as I understand it.  Like all of us, they are watching the BTC market for a legitimate upswing in prices in order to move forward.  Maybe this will work itself out in the long run.

See my response via messages. I encourage anyone interested to completely ignore the pricing structure. We haven't launched in an official capacity by any means whatsoever and I'd likely get a bit of a reprimand for even making this post.

If you have any interest reach out to me or via the contact section on the site. We're eyeing the release of the 7nm miners as an official launch. The owner of the company is willing to negotiate the pricing structure if you're interested before the launch of the next generation miners. But as clgrissom3 states, it's incredibly difficult to turn a profit in the current market conditions. We fully understand that and based on the opportunity a deal can be struck if you need to collocate your current generation miners somewhere. We also don't tie people down with contracts, but reward those willing to sign one. So if it's a temporary housing for current generation before the next gen launches, you might find a home with us.

Sorry for the misunderstandings! I forgot about the pricing structure on our site. We haven't released that site to the public really.

When this happens it's usually when folks forget and try to login with their email address instead of their account name.  Also, some browsers seem to add a blank space to the account name if you have it remember you and that will cause the login to fail.  There is a timeout period and then it will reset itself but I don't know how long that is (and it's not published so the DDoS idiots don't know).  Wait a while and try again making sure to put in your proper account name or send Kano a PM about it.

Interesting, I just did a search on the Stats page and I can't find Luggyman.  Are you sure that is your account name?

That's the username. I had to pull my miners down for a few hours. having some electrical work done.

Even without login I can't see the blocks page, etc. Everything's blank.

Interestingly I'm getting a login fail when i try to login too. Tried a password reset and I'm not getting the email.

Edit: you can find me on the Acclaim page though Wink

I’ve been messing with my two units.

I’m stable at 775M. awesomeminer let’s you use the API to set whatever freq. you want. 16.5 -17 common with bursts over 18k. I was SHOCKED at how much they underpromised and over delivered. Certainly done as a “we won’t fuck your coins up” political move. Thing is pushing almost double advertised hash rate at extremely respectable temperatures. I have a lot of S9s and this thing is a dream compared to those monstrosities.

I can’t imagine that the standard Z9 is not far behind. Jihans confirmed 30-40ksol. I’ll bet the price drop on batch 2 is because of one or two reasons.

1: they might announce the Z9 before the second batch of minis ship. This would be a disaster unless they’re like 4-5 grand
2: they were actually scared of forks.

There’s only 12 ASIC chips in these things! I think an S9 has 169 or some shit. Maybe memory was a limiting factor?

I’ve gotten this thing successfully mining on a whole shit load of pools (funny enough not on the one pool I want to mine, slush) Zen on suprnova is treating me nice and so is ZEL solo oddly enough

I only wish I bought more of them. They boot FAST (compared to a good 5-8min S9 boot.)

Not really worried about the stock freq. overclock to 775 seeing fans at 50% are yielding sub 80 degree chips.

I don’t know if they’re more susceptible to chip failure than an SHA256 asic chip at increased frequencies, but tomorrow I might push it even a little more to see where the stability point and the temperature point meet. I would assume a silly amount of hardware errors would be indicative of stepping it up too far.

These ASICS are unreal.

If you have any Questions I’m a bit of a mining guru. I’m the in-house expert for an about to launch collocation space in Idaho. Happy to help.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the info man.

What’s you’re TH rate, and what are you getting for blocks vs pool mining?

I know on zpool I was solving a lot of blocks.

For example, at your hash rate, how successful were you at solving DGB blocks?

Thanks again man!

Also, NOMP doesn’t require wallet installation and blockchain downloads?

Shawn

So far, I've not found any blocks.  I'm also not using all my rigs on the pool and am still adding coins.  You have to add the wallets and blockchains or else you can't confirm blocks or, in the event you want to allow mining on your pool, send out payments.

Got it, thanks. I've got ~250TH and I'm thinking based on the math i've done that i can do some block solving on PPC, LCC, DGB. I've also solved a Bitcoin block when i was at 240 TH on Kano's pool. My share was 7,000,000,000,000 something.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Request: Litecoin Cash Solo Mining with Antminer S9 on: May 07, 2018, 10:19:07 PM
I honestly tried, what seemed to be like, so many different things.  NOMP had the most resources which allowed a novice like me get it running.  I've been able to add several different coins to go along with LCC, too, like BTC, LTC, DGB, DOGE and working on others.

If you have ANY sort of IT background, and are at least an awesome Googler, getting it set up should be a snap.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the info man.

After about a week of researching and a few mistakes Roll Eyes, I finally got mine going using Ubuntu & NOMP.  Feel free to PM me if you think I can be of any help.

Is NOMP the factor that made it work? I've tried with at least half a dozen coins, using their core wallet as the stratum server, changing config files, etc. The most i can do is get a console up for the server but nothing connects to it.

I have an IT backgroud, followed many peoples sets of instructions, and i couldn't get a single setup running.

I know places like Zpool etc. use NOMP. Is it a wallet / server itself, or is it an extension to a core client that runs in between the antminer and the coin's core wallet?

I'm also one of few people with an IT background that doesn't have any linux knowledge. I could probably breeze through picking it up in a day... worked with a few command line based OSs (mostly back in the day) and the internet is a great learning source. I'm just curious if there's a windows NOMP solution.

I just moved all my machines to a collocation in Idaho site that my buddy is starting a business at. They have a windows server there that I'll be given access too which kinda kills the linux idea too. They're also a bit protective (overly so if you ask me as I'm more knowledgeable than their CTO) and wont let me put a machine on their network.

They run the operation from CT with no one on site in Idaho. I actually solved 2-3 remote problems they had. "How do you physically restart these things if the mining software fails AND the web front end fails?" Their answer was "Well we haven't had to do that yet". "Did you consider running 3-4 raspberry pi's with power relay boards connected to them? They make them for like 20 relays. Then you run a PDU through it, or do it passed the PDU, and bam, you've got a smart outlet"

I could hear the CTO on the phone get a bit annoyed for being presented a really simple solution to a really simple problem that could plague them. I may be the new CTO soon, or at least hired to be the on site technician. I have a day job that allows me to work anywhere in the world, and to be the tech for a large scale collocation site while still keeping my job would be so fuckin neat.

Sorry for rambling! lol.

Guys can you please give me your wisdom,I am thinking of buying 15 more T9+, should I wait first to see if there will be released any new models in June or should I just buy them now anyway?

I've seen a few articles pegging the earliest release of an S11 at later in the year based on their chip purchases.

HOWEVER: I completely understand the logic of all the SHA miners being on a fire sale right now and a million coupons delivered to buyers that are worth massive amounts of money. It would all seem to point to the June announcement and immediate release of the S11.

My Guess: They're fully booted out of china, they had a SHIT LOAD of antminers running in places without a home. They hired 1000+ workers to refurb the outsides and test the hash boards, and they're selling mining equipment that has been used for quite some time but they don't have a home for.

I always figured that Bitmain had to at least own 51% of the hashpower/S9's in existence. Otherwise why sell them right? (and yes i've seen the argument regarding the profit made on selling machines, but with what they were paying for electric, i don't buy it. at all)

30C is 30% of the way to 100C Cheesy

Other handy metric things:

1 liter of pure water masses 1 kilogram.  It also weighs 1 kilogram for all practical purposes.   aka  1 grams of water = 1 cc.

1 kilogram is about 2.2 pounds.
A metric ton is 1000 kgs (~2200 lbs), a us ton is 2000 lbs.

1000 CC = 1 liter

There are ~2.54 CM to an inch.  One Cubic Centimeter is 1 CC.  QED a cubic inch contains 2.54**3 CC's (~16.39), so a 2 liter bottle of Coke has ~122 cubic inches of soda in it.  e.g.  Once you remember the 2.54 CM to an inch number you can convert most distances and volumes and masses.  Remember the 2.2lbs to a kilogram and you have mass/weight under control.

Density is written in terms grams/cc pretty universally - so when you see 2 guys carrying a chest full of gold in a movie, you can pretty quickly call "bullshit".   Say that chest held 2 cubic feet of gold...  that would be 12x12x12x2 cubic inches = 3,456 cubic inches = 56,643 CCs.  Gold is 19.32 times as dense as water (e.g.  19.32 grams/cc) = 1,094,359 grams or 1,094kg, or a bit over 2400 lbs...

yeah, those conversions are not nearly as practical as kano's hahah. I'd have to pocket c calc pretty much all of that unless i wanted to know how much water weighed for some reason.

Quick question as far as hosted mining in Canada and US specifically...

What in your opinion is a fair and reasonable price in US $$ for someone to host an S9 miner?

I've looked at a few sites and seen prices anywhere from $95 up to $125 per month..some more, some a bit less.

Does not seem like you getting ahead by much if any at those prices...

I've been looking to find a reasonable place to host them, but pretty much decided to just expand my own mining operation.

Mine on Kano-San!

depends on what you're paying for power with your current op. I was paying 18.5 cents. No brainer for me.
