Guess it is all relative, but generally 1000's. Anyone that is able to move / influence the market with just their coins / funds I guess is a whale.

I'm not sure why the money was seized I know governments can get a bit happy on the seizing but I just put it down to another mistake in not having the correct things in place - but fair enough.

This is true that he wasn't handling a customer but he had been there for 2 days trying to talk to someone having flown across the world because he couldn't get any response from support. The fact he did that must mean he has a rather large amount of money on the line, if Mark, or I, or you where in his shoes how would we want to get treated? He could of easily taken a few minutes to take the guy inside and talk things over (away from camera).

I'm sure there may be better ways to handle it but i'm sure if we had a large % of our wealth on the line and were getting ignored we might not act quite as well as we would like.

The way I see it is, if they haven't lost anyone's funds it should of been made clear in the first announcement. It shouldn't of taken someone flying to Japan from London and dogging the CEO out side there offices to even try to get a response to a simple question.

Even if funds have been lost they must of worked it out days ago and should of made an announcement. I think there's a high chance all the bitcoin's are accounted for I just don't understand if this is the case why they haven't gone out of there way from the very beginning to make this clear and there wouldn't of been a need for people to fly across the world to try and get answers.

Even if they have lost funds it could of been handled so much better, total cluster fuck I just feel sorry for the guys with real life changing amounts stuck.

This is true, but every level of gox has had issues in as long as I can remember. Withdrawals taking months, setting dates for implementing new features / trade engine and missing them over and over again. Generally unable to communicate with there customers. Money seized. Taking 3 times longer than every other exchange to fix the same issue. It seems there is problems at all parts of gox surely the CEO has to have some say in all these issues and he can't even handle one customer outside his office that wants to have a conversation about his money in a decent way instead just tries to ignore him.

Surely they know if they have lost funds or not tho. Going to have to tell people at some point either way and just seems like they are doing it in a way to piss people off whatever the out come is good or bad.

I agree, but I also believe that in the future we will start seeing alt coins that are actually a lot different to bitcoin, there's far to many alts now and they are all the same so if anyone creating one that they want to get anywhere rather than a pump & dump. So I hope that we have enough difference in cyptro currencies that issues in one coin won't be present in some alts. I also think alts are a good testing ground. If there's ever an issue with part of the protocol and an alt has been working perfectly with it a different way then we have a proven way that works to change too. The more ways we try things the more likely we are to get it working as needed with as little problems as possible.

The main thing that gets me is, if the bitcoin's are safe they should be telling everyone that they are safe. If they have lost funds then instead of making silly announcements saying everything should be fixed by Monday, they need to bite the bullet and tell everyone. People just want answers to the simple question which either way should be a simple answer and should have already been answered many times. Just getting ignored and fed what they want to tell you rather than answering the most basic of questions.

At the end of the day, all companies will have a bad time at some point and if they are open and honest with everything that's going on then everything is a lot smoother on both sides and once the issues are solved everyone comes out happier and had an idea of what was going on.

I wouldn't of quite put it the way you have, but I think its damn right unprofessional for any CEO to just out right ignore a customer that's traveled 12 hours because he was unable to get any help from your support and has so little faith in your company because of the piss poor PR. I would be embarrassed and go out of my way to try and resolve the situation or at least make an effort to explain.  These people that have made trips across the world to go there must have a big chunk of money stuck and instead of him taking 5 minutes out of his day and take them inside and explain the situation. Its not like he was mopped by hundreds of people. This might help put the guys mind at ease that he might get his coins back instead he just refuses to even answer the question regarding if everyone's bitcoins were safe. Which they haven't claimed anywhere that anything is lost, so if that's the case you would be expecting them to be shouting that fact as its the most important thing. So either funds have been lost and that's why he wouldn't answer, they are so incompetent they have no idea if they have lost any funds yet or he just didn't give a shit and couldn't take 5 minutes to try put one of his customers at ease.

Either way I hope its the end of gox but just like BFL are some how still around it wouldn't surprise me if people carry on using it (if they actually release funds).

You would think they would have an idea of who is buying all of there cards & look into it as 10 minutes of reading anyone with any common sense would come to the conclusion there's very little illegal to bitcoin/litecoin let alone mining 

Yeah. more worried about the bugs than anything else. I don't believe the encryption will be broken anytime soon and if it was then its a lot bigger problem than just bitcoin.

I'd wait for one confirm then you know its included in the block chain & would take a lot of work to undo. Also depends on the amount of money if its 0.001 then even 0 confirms I wouldn't really mind. If it was 10k BTC i'd wait for 6 confirms before I did a dance.

I'd be really surprised if we were at $5k by end of the year. I think even ~$2.5k by the end of the year would take some doing. I just hope it gets to $5k even if it takes a few years as that's a number where my holdings would mean i'd never have to work again.

Then again I held quite a large amount of litecoin's since they were $0.40 as I believed they would go up was happy when they went up to $5~ and I thought they would break over $10 and ended up going to $48. so I don't think there's any real way to guess what the price is going to do I like to under expect and then if it blows up its all the nicer.

Unfortunately this is 100% correct, if it were that simple someone would of already done it & with the role that mining takes I don't see how it could ever be implemented but maybe someone smarter than me may one day have an idea on a different way to use POW.

Whatever is wrong with him I think its pretty clear he shouldn't be a CEO.

I believe people were changing a setting on bitcoin-qt wallet to not include unconfirmed coins in the balance as a sort of work around.

So unless you got very very very lucky the difficulty would rise faster than you can hash so your estimated time per block would just keep going up.

Basically unless you win the lottery on a regular basis stick with a pool as chances of you hitting a block are slim.
