1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is Bitcoin's next catalyst for growth ? on: December 12, 2013, 08:25:36 AM
ebay / paypal ........ I just don't see it in a million years

1) Its direct competition to bitcoin
2) ebay / paypal love reversing transactions. How can they reconcile that with bitcoin?
PayPal's CEO seems to like Bitcoin, he at least mentioned the possibility as a funding method as soon as there was enough regulatory clarity.

Not that I would care, rather see both of them ignoring it... On the other hand it would boost Bitcoin and I would like that Smiley

Well PayPal could accept it as a funding method which I'd definately be up for as it gets around the merchant problem that not enough of the places that you want to buy things from accept coin still, otherwise though I hate PayPal with a passion.

Ebay could implement an escrow side of things, where the bidder pays Ebay and then they hold the coin until the seller has shipped and the bidder has received it but it's a bit of a stretch as it would make payments a lot slower compared to PayPal.

I think it'll be the integration of more bitcoin merchants, not even big ones just a much wider adoption, I don't think we'll see any major announcements for at least the next year sadly.
3  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: KNC Jupiter, still profitable NOW? on: November 30, 2013, 10:29:56 AM
8k is the cheapest I could find them going for In Hand, but seems worth it until newer miners come out in Feb/March. As far as group buys go, Im sorta new to the forums and don't really understand how to orchestrate a group by lol.

Honestly, my thoughts are the best way to go in the bitcoin mining race is always look at future generations and move forward, you just have to guess which are the best preorders to go for company wise. but each to there own I guess.
4  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: KNC Jupiter, still profitable NOW? on: November 30, 2013, 09:58:41 AM
I have an opportunity to purchase two KNC Jupiters, basically brand new for $8k each. Do you think the Jupiter is still profitable right now and for the next two months or so?

Yeah I think so to be honest. You can crunch some numbers here http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/

Personally I think when it comes to mining though you should consider really just how many bitcoin you'll make ultimately as time goes on there's always going to be a rise in prices.

$8,000 each is a bit crazy though, I'd try and haggle that down as they're not really worth anywhere near that much as hardware goes, it's purely a crazy price being of how much Bitcoin has increased recently.
5  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin Expo London Sat Nov 30th UK on: November 29, 2013, 11:17:55 PM
I was going to this but it sounds like there will be a crazy amount of people + been a bit under the weather so I could do with out the trip to London.

Hope everyone who goes has a fun time and that maybe they'll do another in 6 months time or something.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Name something you've actually BOUGHT with bitcoin on: November 28, 2013, 12:45:49 AM
I've bought a domain name, a stock vector graphic and I've hired someone to do some software development with bitcoin before.
7  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: KNCMiner Neptune 3TH miner $9,995 on: November 27, 2013, 09:41:16 AM
The fact that people preorder this things in dozens, so it can be delivered to them after 5 months, really beats me.  Roll Eyes
5 months is like 50 years in crypto currency time...

agreed. knc probably miscalculated on this offer eventhough i agree they are one of the more reliable asic sellers out there. my feeling is that the difficulty will rise beyond belief by then.

Will it though, who else is putting miners reliably out there which as much power as KnC's first gen models let alone with plans for new devices that compare to their second gen models like neptune?
8  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: KNCMiner Neptune 3TH miner $9,995 on: November 26, 2013, 03:47:34 PM
PM me offers if you want to order Neptune I am a prior customer and can order them

Same here, can't likely raise that kind of capital to get one myself but seems a waste of my abilities as a previous customer. It's a shame they're not make some in between models like previously as I bought a mercury previously and would of been happy to get just a new one with 2 cores, even better if they had stuck to there promise of making their hardware upgradable.

W-M came to me when I posted on the forums here requiring some javascript work be done, after seeing his examples I was impressed but I was more impressed by the speed at which he came back to me with the library I required https://github.com/Qqwy/JS-CoinStackBar just shortly after an agreement was made. I would happily send any future work I have his way.

If anyone has questions regarding this please feel free to send me a personal message.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Android Operating System and Bitcoins on: November 25, 2013, 12:16:51 AM
I was thinking about purchasing a Tablet (Perhaps the Samsung Tab 3) from Sprint since I already have Sprint with my smartphone.  Can I download a wallet onto a tablet?  How safe is it to use something like Coinbase or the other exchanges with the Android Operating System on a Samsung tablet or smartphone?   Should I just stick to my Gateway laptop, or home desktop Windows computer?

I'd say safe to keep small amounts of coin that you're not worried about losing, but ultimately having all your bitcoins directly on a a phone/tablet is crazy, you're better off using something like blockchain.info which is a cloud wallet of sorts but still has an android app even if it's a bit basic.
11  Economy / Services / Re: Require custom jQuery/Bootstrap Component on: November 22, 2013, 02:23:37 PM
I actually sent you a PM before I saw this post. In there is a .svg bitcoin I made a while ago.

Some JavaScript I've done before:
http://martinechapuis.net - A web site I made for a friend of mine. Made with some simple PHP and JavaScript. The script that enables browsing the comic is also made by me. Note that the images and drawings here are made by her.
http://wmmusic.nl - My current home page. (I'm also a musician) Made using PHP and JavaScript/jQuery. Most non-photo images are .svg files made by me. The music player has completely been made and styled by me (the actual playing of the music is handled by SoundManager 2). Also note the music notes that react to the music. (no pun intended, haha)

I also occasionally try some crazy things like http://jsfiddle.net/vpcPC/1/, a simple particle explosion effect in 140 bytes, in JavaScript.

Let me know what you think Smiley.

~W-M

Yeah thank you for providing those, I'm pretty impressed to be honest. I won't say there's a deal yet, I'll need to think things over but I'll get back to you within 48 hours. If you've got any further questions or anything else you want to add feel free to drop me a PM.
12  Economy / Services / Re: Require custom jQuery/Bootstrap Component on: November 22, 2013, 12:13:24 PM
The bitcoin price is highly fluctuating right now. I would be willing to make this for .11 bitcoin or also for the Bitcoin equivalent of $60, at the time of payment.
I have experience in JavaScript and jQuery and am also capable of making Vector images with Inkscape.

I love little ideas like this. If you've already recruited Newtorthsigns then that's fine, but otherwise keep my offer in mind.

No definitely considering your offer, I'm willing to consider that if there's a set delivery cut off you'll be paid either the BTC0.11 or if the value drops you'll be given a minimum of $60. Sounds like you might be the right one for the job, would you happen to have any examples of any previous images you produced yourself or any javascript work you've done before?
13  Economy / Services / Re: Require custom jQuery/Bootstrap Component on: November 21, 2013, 01:38:45 PM
I might try. However, expecting a little more extra coins.

What's your level of expectations?

With the current prices in mind, it would be better to offer .30 BTC.

Thanks & Good luck.

Sorry but with current prices in mind 0.3 is fairly steep, I'm willing to negotiate price but ultimately tripling it isn't on the cards for me

16  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Why is hardware so bloody expensive right now? on: November 21, 2013, 04:04:58 AM
I understand what you are saying however I have charted the bitcoin value/difficulty for the last year and it is at an all time low.

Basically, hardware or any kind should be worthless right now.

I think SlyFoxy12 is right...there is a bunch of noobs out there fueling these prices thinking that at ~625CAD mining bitcoins is gotta be worth it however when they realize how hard it is just to make a single bitcoin they will learn.

Oh well...what it is is what it is I guess

Not totally right though, if you look at someone like the units KnC are putting out are making bitcoins easily, the problem is you have to really gamble on which hardware maker will actually do what they promise unlike BFL because you have to preorder, you can't wait for a steady supply line and you have to assume that without major price increases you'll only have a small window to make ROI until prices rise, but to be fair, prices will keep increase while there a shortage of decent equipment out there.
17  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Why is hardware so bloody expensive right now? on: November 21, 2013, 02:04:26 AM
basically, yes and no. to be fair I don't know where you're looking but chances are as that's reasonably old hardware that it's a third party trying to make a quick buck out of noobs who think they're the next 'bitcoin entrepreneur' that will buy hardware so they can stay in the game.

Ultimately, we're at a point where you either need to buy preorders for the next generation or wait for the current generation to become less profitable so people will start to sell them second hand.
18  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it the end of BTC??? on: November 20, 2013, 03:49:18 PM
after been at 900 usd, now is down to 500, is it the end of BTC? I think it could.

What do you think??

No, even BTC 1 = USD 10 is perfectly fine for Bitcoin to work as a currency.

Not true. Everyone would stop mining. Electricity costs and costs of hardware would become prohibitive.

There must be a minimum price per bitcoin for the miners to make a profit, otherwise they wouldn't do it.

This is true although some would continue to mine on the basis that the price will eventually rise, but now that ASIC miners are the only real way forward, the price of bitcoin is somewhat set by the companies willing to go through the process or making the processors.
19  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it the end of BTC??? on: November 20, 2013, 03:23:43 PM
You're crazy to think this, there's only one way bitcoin ends and that's if someone ever finds a 100% way of destroying the network which right now seems next to impossible.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin And Porn on: November 20, 2013, 11:17:07 AM
I'd also be interested in this information but beyond MetArt there aren't many who look too interested in taking up bitcoin, probably because you can't lock people into subscriptions
