Has anyone seen any estimations on the amount of 'lost' bitcoins?

Not sure if the best, but you can always put 'bitcoind getnewaddress' inside a for loop and write the output to the database.

My individual findings.

Single Rig (getting started):   Windows > Linux > OSX (mac)
Cluster:    Linux > Windows > OSX

The economies of scale would only really kick in around 5+ machines to make linux worthwhile. And it relies on you feeling more comfortable with linux administration

Thanks for this summary. Very helpful. Seems like blockbet.net has disappeared now and bet365 still has a low limit. Which books are you using now?

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: price is gunna start slyding hard down to 130. on: May 02, 2013, 07:07:18 PM
ok .... one more prediction. the current bounce is a dead cat bounce it will fall again and touch 101.10 but not lower. masive support at 101. the fake wall at 160.00 at bitstamp will move onec we see it drop hard. once we see this double dip we will see a nice rise to 130. then a few sell offs but ultamatly they will be bear traps and the price will be at 150 once sr is up and running agin in no time.

do you think sr being down is the underlying cause? seems there is a big run every time a major player (exchange, wallet, marketplace) has issues

you can generate a lot but you may hit performance issues with >1000.

100 addresses are generated by default. you can increase that by modifying your bitcoin.conf file and increasing the keypool:

# Pre-generate this many public/private key pairs, so wallet backups will be valid for
# both prior transactions and several dozen future transactions.
#keypool=100
