1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: March 16, 2017, 02:11:00 AM
Did you build ppcoind yourself?  Can you try it on a different system?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: March 15, 2017, 07:33:26 PM
No, the -rescan only works on your wallet.dat  Hopefully, you have a safe copy somewhere.

I'm just suggesting that you move it and see if the client is able to run and sync the blockchain after it generates a fresh (empty) wallet.dat

If the database errors still occur look at the file permissions and/or check the drive for errors
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: March 15, 2017, 06:40:29 PM
Sunny is still active; he just approved some pull requests about 2 weeks ago.  Most of the news/announcements are now being handled by the community.

The error you're receiving can happen if your copy of wallet.dat is corrupted or unreadable.  You may not have to re-download the entire blockchain.  Try removing the wallet.dat and restarting.  Also, make sure you have full read/write permissions on the entire .ppcoin directory and the wallet.dat.

You should try running with "-rescan" option.  PPcoin code still requires this in some cases.

Did you read this???
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: March 15, 2017, 02:26:35 PM
and now all my PPC are not seen

If all of your coins still aren't showing up after you are fully synced with the blockchain...

You should try running with "-rescan" option.  PPcoin code still requires this in some cases.

Watching this thread but seems a bit dead lately

Most discussion is going on over at www.peercointalk.org

i am running version  "v0.5.0ppc.rc1-beta"

Yes, it's a little confusing but v0.5 is not a "production" release, it's only intended for testing right now.  A v0.5.0 rc2 should be out soon, but it too will only be for testing for now.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: January 12, 2016, 06:18:29 AM
Make sure that you are using the latest version:

 https://peercoin.net/wallet

Or if you wish to compile yourself, use 0.4.2 branch here:

 https://github.com/ppcoin/ppcoin/tree/0.4.2

Unfortunately, once you get the latest software, you may have to delete and re-download the blockchain a 3rd time but it should work well after that.

If you have a checkpoint warning, you definitely want to download a patched client.  The new client should be able to sync without re-downloading the entire blockchain.

If you prefer Peerunity, it is available with the patch as well:

The patch has been deployed in the latest releases.  If your client is still in sync you are probably OK, particularly if you're on 64-bit linux.  However, you should update to the latest version as soon as possible:

@entertheabyss

Please don't use v0.5.0ppc.rc1-beta on the active Peercoin network.  It is intended only for testnet at this time.

The current production release candidate is: Peercoin 0.4.1 RC1

13  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] B&C Exchange – A decentralized Bitcoin exchange - *NEW* fundraiser on: May 13, 2015, 01:44:16 AM
Wow, I suppose there is no purpose in beating a dead horse, but I'm really surprised that people were turned off by having to hold NuShares.  To me, that was a major selling point of the auction.  Even if the NuShares were ultimately unwanted, they still served very well as a cryptologically sound, verifiable form of "pre-"ownership.  I'm not sure how I feel about the new purchase structure... it seems more risky to early buyers.  I'll have to think about it.  Right now I'm mostly just disappointed more people couldn't recognize the value here and the importance of this project toward advancing Bitcoin.
14  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] B&C Exchange – A decentralized Bitcoin exchange - 2 days remaining to bid! on: May 11, 2015, 05:55:54 AM
Anyone following cryptocurrency for as long as I have knows there is no shortage of brilliant minds taking part in this social leap.  Unfortunately, there are also plenty of thieves, con artists, and dreamers distracting from the true advances in Bitcoin’s evolution.  At this point, anyone with financial skin in the game should be leery of investing in undelivered promises.

The Peercoin track of development stands out in my mind as a veritable leader in innovation, foresight, and meticulous deployment.  Jordan Lee, sigmike, and erasmospunk have proven talent in advancing the ground-breaking work of Sunny King.  If you haven’t taken the time to evaluate the opportunities in Peershares and NuBits you haven’t performed due diligence in the industry and shouldn’t be investing in cryptocurrencies.

Jordan Lee has demonstrated himself capable not only of professional development but of true commitment to solving the fundamental roadblocks in world-wide adoption of decentralized finance.  Instead of pumping a trend for a quick buck, Jordan has joined Sunny King in constructing a legacy for our children that is both fair and resilient.  What other examples in history do we have of true intellectual treasure being openly distributed into the hands of the community?

Having solved volatility and liquidity in NuBits, Jordan and his team are moving ahead to cure the other black eye of Bitcoin - centralized exchanges.  As one of many who have suffered great losses through exchange collapse, I cannot be more certain that this is the vital next advance the democratization of money.  Personally, my cryptocurrency assets are out of the economy until something like B&C exchange is up and running.

In my mind, the tradition of security and fairness that lives on with Peercoin carries through to this auction.  It’s hard to imagine a less risky investment in the cryptocurrency space simply because one has here the opportunity to bid on a proven asset at possibly below market value.  Although I have no doubt about the capacity of Jordan, Sigmike, and erasmospunk to deliver on their promises, a winning bid in this auction immediately conveys value through the direct ownership of the NuShares.  Aquiring NuShares though this bid may be your last opportunity to build a sizable stake in the Nu network irrespective of the eventual success of B&C.

If, for some reason, you maintain no interest in a long-term investment in NuShares you should at least take heed of the success of NuBits over the past 9 months in upholding 1:1 USD parity against extremely deep volume through periods of extremely rapid BTC/USD volatility.  Jordan Lee promised a stable cryptocurrency, and he delivered on schedule.  Furthermore, he continues to demonstrate his perseverance in accepting criticism, learning from mistakes, and building the future as a full team effort with some of the leading innovators in cryptocurrency.  Bidding on NuShares through this auction is your opportunity to enable the freedom of us all -for the first time in modern history- to store wealth and engage in commerce liberated from centralized power.

If you own Bitcoin, you should be bidding on this proposal.

can't believe nobody mentioned Nubits announcement in this thread,

Thanks for the links.  You're right; people who are only subscribed to this thread may not realize there is actually a new official thread for Peercoin here:

Lots of talk about NuBits there today!

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Redesigned Peercoin.net is now LIVE! on: September 08, 2014, 10:10:11 PM
I would agree the Peercoin is one of the more evenly distributed cryptocurrencies.  You can have a look at http://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-ppcoin-addresses.html to get a sense of the top addresses and transactions.

Of course, a list of anonymous addresses is not the whole story, but if you think about it there are several reasons to suspect a relatively fair distribution of Peercoin from the beginning.

1) First of all, the release was announced on this very forum 9 days before the first block was created giving ample opportunity for miners to evaluate the opportunity and determine whether or not to allocate resources.

2) None of the PPC were pre-mined, reserved, or distributed through any IPO/crowdfunding.

3) Because Peercoin's PoW uses the same SHA-256 based hashing alogrithm as Bitcoin it was easy for a wide distribution of interested miners to jump in quickly to the early action.

4) And probably more importantly the Peercoin PoW difficulty started at a high level and adjusts continuously in response to the mining power that's added.

5) Finally, lots of former Bitcoin mining gear has been re-purposed toward Peercoin, with "agnostic" miners then dumping PPC into exchanges where even wider-distribution continues through open market demand.

Honestly, I think Peercoin is one of the few cryptocurrencies to arrive at the "golden age" of altcoins where there was enough excitement for broad-based interest but not so many fly-by-night scamcoins that it was simply foolish for anyone but insiders to dive into the pot early.  Although I suppose no distribution could ever be unequivocally fair, I'm not sure it will ever be possible to match a launch as "unbiased" as Peercoin's continues to be.

Coin control is definitely implemented and working in Peerunity, but it has to be enabled in settings.  Please see my previous post just above.

Also, it appears that coding for v0.2 is already complete and new builds are expected soon; however I see no reason for not trying out the current version now.   (http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=2740.150)
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: August 19, 2014, 02:34:03 PM
520Bit -

Coin control is already a working feature of Peerunity.  Peerunity is the community-built wallet with several enhancements over Sunny's current reference wallet.  It was released in May and has already achieved wide-spread adoption.  To my knowledge, no significant security bugs or incompatibilities have been reported.  You can see the number of people already using Peerunity by having a look at http://cryptocities.appspot.com/peercoin-fullnodes.html.    (Peerunity is identified in the node version number.)

You can find out more about Peerunity here: http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=2902.0

Note: Coin control is currently considered an "expert" feature and must be deliberately enabled through Settings > Options > Display.  After enabling coin control, use the "Send Coins" tab to explore the individual transaction outputs stored in your wallet.

Coins are able to be used for minting after only 30 days, but the actual time it takes to be rewarded for a proof-of-stake block varies based on the total coin-age and the number of other people currently minting.  Regardless of how long it takes, however, you will eventually receive a reward equivalent to ~1% per annum.

There are several detailed discussions of how Peercoin minting works over at the Peercoin forum including this Minting Guide: http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=2982.msg29805#msg29805

Also, an online calculator has been developed to help estimate the probability of minting a block with a certain set of coins over a certain time period: http://peercoincalculator.info

Good luck finding your first POS block!
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PeercoinTalk.org's Community Interview With Sunny King #4 (Transcript) on: June 08, 2014, 09:27:53 PM
I find it very promising that Sunny King is pushing for more community involvement in the development of Peercoin.  As hinted in his parting comments, this project is really about a "philosophy" and a much bigger struggle than topping out coinmarketcap.com for the day.  The paradigm shift we are approaching will demand the insights and solutions of more than any single developer.  Like Mr. Nakamoto, Sunny has illustrated his maturity and foresight by welcoming the contributions of other great minds while at the same time establishing a firm standard for stability and security.  We have to remember that these are the CompuServe days of decentralized blockchain technology.  There are unimaginable innovations to come and there will be many, many more "alternative" get-rich-quick schemes before the true leaders emerge.  In this environment value can easily be overlooked and misplaced; however Peercoin's long track record remains a scarce and appreciating asset that can never again be duplicated.
