1  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is a commodity, not a cryptocurrency. on: January 30, 2014, 06:39:02 PM
Bitcoin is a different thing to different people. To the average consumer, it is a way of sending your aunt up north money without having to deal with bankers or fees, or alternatively a way of buying drinks without having to fiddle through change. To the investor, it is a commodity which can be used to get rich, sometimes quickly. To the cryptographer, it is a fascinating application of their science. To the economist, it is a fascinating and unique concept to observe. To the anarchist, it is freedom from the state and spying.  It is because of how Bitcoin can be so many things to so many people that gives it its power.

Amazing that people couldn't get where the OP was from considering he mentioned it in his post. Do people actually read posts?  Cool
Attention to detail is an increasingly rare commodity, even amongst the world's most skilled professionals.

4  Economy / Services / Will write and do jobs for BTC on: January 25, 2014, 04:06:29 PM
Hi, I'm Scott, and I think I can do a few things worth some Bitcoins, if anyone's interested in my services. I'll accept any reasonable payment above 0.01 BTC for my services. I can do the following:
- I am a skilled writer, and can write you an essay or article. I have knowledge of politics, economics, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, Northern Irish history and society (guess where I'm from), and finance. I am also studying for a GCSE in English Language.
- I can help you with your business. I am currently studying for my GCSE in Business Studies and I have read quite a few books on economics, so I can definitely provide assistance and advice, even with menial tasks like accounting.
- I can advertise through my signature.
- I have almost 1,500 friends on Facebook, and can manually find people who might be interested in your product and refer them to it.
- I like rapping, and would be willing to write and perform some rhymes. I like to focus on being entertaining, rather than having genuine skill.

If you want to tip or donate because you're a kind person, use this address:

If you need anything else done, just ask; I may well have forgotten a few things.
-Scott

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EasyLTC--The Easiest Litecoin GUIMiner! on: November 10, 2013, 05:29:01 PM
Hi, I'm new to LTC, what exactly is a 'pool worker'? When it asks me to enter pool worker, how do I know what to write in?
Edit: Also, I tried using the miner, but it's giving me 0 kH/s. How do I fix this?
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / Would anyone be willing to sell £25 worth of BTC via Paypal? on: May 01, 2013, 10:03:49 PM
I'd like someone to be on standby so I can buy when the value has bottomed out, so I can make the most money. I would also like to use an escrow for the trade. Anyone who's interested, pm me.
8  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: High-quality Electrum builds for Windows on: March 31, 2013, 06:45:52 PM
Strange... Are you running any HIPS or whitelisting software, by any chance? Or perhaps it's just a corrupted download? The executable should be 6.3MB.  You can also double-check if the SHA1 hash is correct.
Not doing anything of the sort.
Executable is indeed 6.3MB.
You're welcome to take a look with Remote Assistance.
9  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What if all taxes were distributed to all citizens equally? on: March 30, 2013, 03:03:02 PM
If this was the case, there would be no incentive to produce anything, because producers seek profits, and this system will most likely reduce significantly any profit made. The incentive will also be reduced as one can simply attempt to live on the money distributed to them. However, what will come will be a downward spiral, as one is able to buy less and less with their distributed money because less and less people are making anything, causing supply to go down and the price to go up. Eventually, the economy may balance itself out, as people attempt to work for their money instead of relying on the money distributed to them, meaning prices go down and people are able to buy things more readily with their distributed sum.
10  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: High-quality Electrum builds for Windows on: March 30, 2013, 01:34:21 PM
I'm getting an error when running the executable. It says:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
How do I fix this?

This is unusual and could be related to the new build process... Could you confirm if you're running it from C drive or somewhere else? Also, are there any spaces in the path you're running it from?
I am running it from C drive, in my Downloads folder.

I'm on Windows 7 too, and for the last few versions I've had more success with flatfly's standalone build (see the dedicated thread).
And it's open source as well now, so I highly recommend it.
You are an excellent person, thank you!
Can you maybe link to the thread? I can't seem to find it.
13  Other / Politics & Society / Re: World federalism. on: March 29, 2013, 04:33:31 PM
Define world federalism
A federation spanning the entire world; where independent nation states cease to exist, every current country becomes a state in the federation with a degree of power, but the central government exercises the most power.

15  Other / Off-topic / Buy a fraction of my soul in BTC! (crosspost outside of Newbie forum) on: March 29, 2013, 04:17:23 PM
I'm selling my soul.

Of course, I don't want to sell it to a single proprietor. I want to sell it to as many people who want it, be it only a handful of people or the entire forum.

So here's how it'll work.
If you wish to buy my soul, you buy a unit of it, for whatever price you like.
Then, the fraction of my soul which you own shall be the percentage you have paid for units of my soul out of the total sum paid for units of my soul.
So, if you buy a unit of my soul for 0.01 BTC, and the total amount including your contribution is 1 BTC, you will own 1% of my soul, because 0.01 is 1% of 1.

If you are interested, message me, and I'll provide you with an address.
Once I receive the money, I shall send you a record and certificate of purchase as an attachment in a message.

Here is a sample certificate:

I do hope there is interest in this enterprise.

I've deleted it and I'm trying to reinstall it, but the installer isn't opening. Installer is 1.7.2. Also, when I load up a different client (Bitcoin-Qt) it doesn't show any of my wallet details. This is really frustrating me, can someone please help?

18  Other / Politics & Society / World federalism. on: March 29, 2013, 03:50:28 PM
If we inspired people to take pride in the species they were on a huge scale as opposed to nationality, could world federalism ever arise?
