2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN [ICO] 💪 HERO | 🔥🔥🔥ICO STARTS TODAY🔥🔥🔥| $14M CAP ⏳ on: September 18, 2017, 01:17:16 PM
Yeah, it looks like investors were a bit rattled after the market crash on Thursday - but looking at the similar/competing ICOs that launched in the time frame, HERO's performance held up quite nicely. Now that the ETH value is back to last week wednesday's level, it will be interesting to see what happens next!

6  Other / Off-topic / Re: Keeping Passwords on: September 10, 2017, 10:07:42 PM
Ideally, having a different password for each site, and remembering them in your head would be best. But honestly, in a world where each website has a different, highly specific, password policy, it is hard to keep them all in mind. For Windows, KeePass is my favourite solution as a password management tool - simple, sturdy, no-bs kind of software. Whenever possible, I also aus two factor auth, to keep as safe as possible.
7  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Paper Wallet Design on: September 10, 2017, 09:59:32 PM
That site is a good tip, I appreciate that they also have a custom psd template to download!
Now to just get myself to do the effort to actually do this and secure my funds offline...
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lots of Scammers Here on: September 05, 2017, 08:55:31 AM
My advice To avoid fraud in ICO projects Check team background, look for transparency, work experience and signs of their emotional maturity. if there is a lack of business experience in the core team, how they will overcome difficulties or big fund raises (emotional maturity is needed here ).
There must be a definite 'need' that is fulfilled, the market with solutions and ideally long-term vision must be clear and profitable. Read their whitepapers carefully, see the roadmap and check the currency industry and Blockchain addressed.

I think it's pretty difficult to reveal  the real team's background. It's easy to create a fairy tail abou tthe person in the internet world... How to be sure that the person is from real life and isn't an ex-defrauder?

I think a big trust signal is the transparency of the ICO - if the thread includes links to peoples LinkedIn profile, twitter accounts (that have existed for a while) and other legit social media profiles, than that is a sign that there are real people behind the ICO, who put their identities and reputations at stake for the success of the project. That might not make scams 100% impossible, but at least, you will see that there is an actual existing person behind it.

Unlike, for example, the recent fraud ICO "Lust", where they posted a nice set of pictures of the "founders" (without any links to profiles), and, of course, it was quickly revealed that the pictures are from a stock photo site and the ICO was a scam promoted by hacked accounts and bots.
9  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Rankings for the bounty campaigns managers on: September 05, 2017, 08:46:44 AM
Has anyone ever attempted (or managed) to create a master list of all the currently active campaign/bounty managers? Feels like this would be super usefull, in order to not have to manually search through a lot of threads (for both sides -> the client will find them easier, and the managers will get more clients).
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese never seizes to amaze on: August 28, 2017, 03:28:27 PM
This is a smart move of the elctronics producer... But I don't feel like a tiny chip mining Bitcoins will change anything for the majority - small time Bitcoin users won't hav the capacity to mine significantly. Electricity bills may go up though, if this becomes a mass-market thing.
11  Other / Meta / Re: How to combat the surge in scam ICOs on: August 28, 2017, 11:15:48 AM
While being new to this community: agreed. The amount of scammy or just super unprofessional ICO's is astounding.

The idea of charging 1 BTC per ICO thread is interesting, but has some flaws too: first of all, how to administer it? Either, there would have to be manual approval (which might take a long time, if a lot of requests come in), or a complete payment gateway would have to be set up (which I find hard to believe, considering the simplicity of the forum software).
Then there is the question of how would the newly-financed task force operate? Would it be pre-approval, or removal of scammy ICO's after the post has been made? And who would be the judge on borderline cases?

But in general, yes, I believe the current Altcoin forum is almost anarchy, and something should be done to rein in the scammers and spammers. I like the idea of fixing some rules on terminology and minimum standards. I also have another idea: how about banning completely new acounts (such as my own, actually  Wink ) from posting in that subforum? So that, for example, only accounts with 100 activity or more post there?
This might root out some of the throwaway spam accounts that are created purely for spamming up one ICO and dissapear afterwards.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is instant way to get rich ? on: August 28, 2017, 11:01:23 AM
The fact that many people come on to this forum hoping that Bitcoin is an "instant way" of getting rich, shows the danger of scams: so many people are gullible and grasping at any straw to "get rich instantly". Sadly, in reality, these offers are almost always fake and scams to fleece hopefull but naive investors.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: best upcoming ICO on: August 28, 2017, 10:40:59 AM
Is there any good website/blogger that reviews and recommends the best ICO's? Not just listings of all of them, but really recommending the best of the best?
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The time is WWIII, what are our Bitcoin Doomsday Preppers doing? on: August 28, 2017, 09:09:19 AM
These kind of WWIII scenarios always feel a bit speculative to me - it really depends on how this war will be fought: will it be traditional warfare (in the worst case even including nukes)? Will it be an escalation of what we are seeing right now (i.e. terrorism in western countries -> western countries retaliating with combat in other countries). Or will it be purely cyber warfare?

On one hand, I can understand the notion that Bitcoin seems like a good alternative for when this kind of Doomsday scenario happends. But keep in mind: a global war of unseen sizes would likely also destroy considerable parts of the developed worlds electrictiy and network infrastructure. What good is my BTC, if no digital services are available anymore to facilitate payment with? Thats why my tendency is to say: if you want to be a Doomsday Prepper, prepare entirely for an offline, no-electricit life. So buy yourself tradeable goods (food, medicine, gasoline etc) that will be valuable even if all IT infrastructure is disabled.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Discourage by our country. on: August 28, 2017, 08:57:12 AM
What is the situation there, exactly? Is it made illegal to accept it by the government authorities? Or is it simply the case that few businesses accept/pay in Bitcoins?
16  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-27] Bitcoin Network Fees Remain a Topic of Debate on: August 27, 2017, 04:36:17 PM
I guess it depends on what people are used to. Over here in Europe, transaction fees are not really a thing for regular bank transactions. So people (especially the non-techy ones) will obviously ask "Why should I go through all the hassle to use BTC, if I end up with extra transaction costs". If Bitcoin shall remain a niche product, the status quo is OK - but if we wanna go for a mass market adoption, an innovative change is neccesary.
17  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: how to get rewad faster in bitcointalk? on: August 27, 2017, 04:29:44 PM
Yeah, I believe that this is a plattform mainly for networking and visibility. IF you want to earn some extra BTC here, you need to have a high rank (requiring, i assume, at least a year acitvity to fill out those 14-day blocks), and then continouusly post high-quality posts in order to be able to take part in the signature campaigns etc. Wouldn't be my way to go, if I simply wanted to make a quick buck.
18  Other / New forum software / Re: When will the new forum soft. get released? on: August 25, 2017, 11:34:46 AM
Just registered here and quite suprised to see the most important forum for one of the most high-tech topics in today's society to be running on such an old software. So it's good to see that there is work done on the new version. Not gonna lie, I do hope the new release comes sooner rather than later, this version feels super retro to me.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think are the biggest disadvantages of Bitcoin? on: August 25, 2017, 10:38:22 AM
A big disadvantage of Bitcoin - that people in communities like this sometimes overlook - is that Bitcoin is still seen as something exotic, new and sometimes even shady (they associate it with the dark web) by "regular people". Bitcoin needs to improve its image and get a more reliable, solid reputation in order to really become a mainstream currency that is on par with traditional money. It might happen, but it is depending on marketing.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin for Taxi on: August 25, 2017, 10:26:07 AM
Shouldn't be such a hard idea to implement, simply using existing Taxi apps (Lyft, Uber etc) and adding an option to pay with BTC (or with cryptocurrencies in general) - actually, I'd expect this kind of thing to already exist somwhere, seems like a logical idea.
