1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: We're at the second stage of the bloodbath now.. Thoughts? on: September 13, 2017, 03:17:26 PM
I hope so! This has set me waaaaay into the negative, I can't take many more hits  Cry
2  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bought my first BTC @ $4600, slightly worried on: September 13, 2017, 09:59:17 AM
I feel you! I bought a similar amount over the past month at an average of $4,200. I was doing okay but then bought some just before last weeks crash and then again before this one. The ICO ban effect I was fine about, it was always going to happen and the price recovered quickly. This one however I am much more concerned about. I am quite deep in the red overall and I cannot understand why the recovery has been so slow compared to what happened last week. There doesn't seem to be much upwards action or positive news coming out at the moment. Even the most positive people are waiting and riding out the storm this time whereas last week they were buying the dips and bringing about a speedy recovery.

I know this has happened before but there is just a sense amongst a lot of people I have spoken to that this is going to be a big test and that more bad news is around the corner... Now obviously no one can predict what will happen. We may see a recovery in the next few days. However if everyone is waiting for more news and HODLing then it means few are being defiant and buying which will inevitably lead to further reductions in price.

Rumours, if anything are worse than solid news. If China just banned exchanges we'd probably be at $3,000 but recovering by now however the because of the rumours we're holding out at $4,000 and barely moving from there. A negative announcement therefore will have significant effect as the starting price will be lower.

Overall I am positive in the long run. I cannot see how BTC and other cryptos can be killed off or be knocked back too much more however their strength is certainly being tested right now and there desperately needs to be some kind of widespread positive news to rev up the engines once again.

My overall prediction is that the rest of the year will see a continued decline overall, a trap that BTC has so far avoided apart from in the early days. However after that there will be slow and steady recovery... Maybe lows of $2,500 rising back up to $5,000 through 2018. I'm holding regardless and will continue to use the portfolio I currently have to look for opportunities to soften the blow and bring about some nice gains in the future once it all calms down.

3  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: CoinCheckUp.com - Cryptocoin Analysis & Investment Stats on: September 11, 2017, 08:28:12 AM
I really like this so far! a great resource to check and nice to see some good research to help make informed decisions.

A few things to note and some suggestions from me.

Follow Button - It will not work for me, I click follow on coins but it does not register. I spent about 10 minutes following all the coins I was interested in only to then click the "only my coins" button and it came up with nothing. Then looked back onto a coin I had previously followed and it was no longer following. (I am signed up and logged in)

Number System - Maybe the number should be equal across all boards as it gets confusing when trying to compare across different pages. For example, BTC is #1 on market but Lykke is #1 on analysis.

Coin Screener - Would be nice to have an option to select current price on the screeener

Right click or hover functionality - Would again be useful to have so that if you click, right click, hover over coin link you get a mini pop out with follow button and the main analysis section (price%, score, ticker symbol etc) + follow button.

Prediction Page - Only currently works on current value set against trends that already exist. Would be good to see other factors built into this to get some variation across coins. Difficult to do I know!

But overall I am super impressed, fantastic job!
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many bitcoin are on chinese exchanges? on: September 09, 2017, 08:59:50 PM
I just made a post about this which shows some rather scary figures, They may not be not a true reflection of the market but from what I found CNY transactions over the past two years are greater than all other currencies combined and their three main exchanges are responsible for around 95% of all trades in BTC value. No wonder the China news creates such massive drops  Shocked

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China thoughts and data. Much more impact than we think?! on: September 09, 2017, 08:51:05 PM
Well its no surprise to me. The chinese were very quickly in on the whole Blockchain thing right from the start. The largest promotions in the early years of the technology all happened in China and they have been an economical superpower for quite long now. Of course a permanent ban would be felt, that is for sure. But right now its only a temporary ban of ICOs until they get proper regulations. Nothing to worry about at all.

I'd say in EU the knowledge of cryptos and blockchain is very very small unless you're in the tech business. Only reason I even remotely heard of it is because I work in tech and a CEO (at a fintech event) was promoting and hyping Blockchain technology as a huge thing for the future, that was in 2012 or something. If you're outside of tech/fintech there is a slim chance that you even know anything about Bitcoin or Blockchain tech.

But all in all, thats a good thing. Just think of the potential the technology has when it spreads

Thanks for your thoughts, it's not so much the ICO ban that concerns me, more the possible closure of the three exchanges that control pretty much the entire market. I confess that I am one of those that knows very little about the technology behind blockchain and cryptocurrency. I work in the music industry! However I have known about BTC for a long time and what excites me is the fact that it is now getting to the stage where non tech types are getting involved which shows that widespread adoption could be achieved... But only if the price continues on an upward curve in order to build excitement.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / China thoughts and data. Much more impact than we think?! on: September 09, 2017, 08:23:28 PM
So I've been doing some research today on the current markets and everything that is going on. I know a lot of us are very positive about BTC and other cryptos ability to bounce back but the evidence I've found has certainly concerned me a little.

Firstly, over the past two years from the data I've found China appear to have been BY FAR the largest traders. Now I'm not sure how accurate this data or website is but it's certainly alarming to look at the volume of business going on within these exchanges.

Exchange   Volume BTC   Market share
 okcoin   535M   39.79%
 huobi   503M   37.43%
 btcchina   215M   16.00%
 others   28.0M   2.08%
 bitfinex   15.9M   1.18%
 lakebtc   14.1M   1.05%
 bitflyer   9.78M   0.73%
 kraken   7.91M   0.59%
 bitstamp   7.83M   0.58%
 bit-x   7.61M   0.57%

https://data.bitcoinity.org

Secondly. Business is CNY within this 2 year time period is higher than all other currencies combined

CNY Markets

 btcchina   215M   17.07%
 huobi   503M   39.94%
 okcoin   529M   42.02%

Compared to USD markers

Exchange   Volume BTC   Market share
 bitfinex   15.9M   27.98%
 bitstamp   7.34M   12.94%
 coinbase   6.42M   11.32%
 okcoin   5.56M   9.80%
 bit-x   4.90M   8.64%
 others   4.37M   7.71%

And EUR markets

 kraken   5.99M   52.71%
 bit-x   1.93M   16.99%
 gatecoin   585k   5.15%
 coinbase   554k   4.88%
 others   515k   4.54%

My final thought is about the huge amount of BTC that was dumped yesterday compared to last week or any other dump.

I can't copy data of these results but in short. Trades went from an average of 5,000BTC per hour globally on Thursday to 47,500BTC per hour yestersday. Compare this to a peak of 25,00BTC during last weeks mini dump and we see something much bigger emerging.

Please note that these are just a few things I have found and I am simply sharing to find out peoples thoughts and feelings. I am in no way saying this information is reliable but I have provided a link above for you to look yourself. Also, I noticed that Bittrex, probably the largest USD and EUR trader is not included in their figures however I doubt they would make a huge amount of different to the overall numbers.

Let me know what you think, I welcome any discussion. I am fairly new to this space so am eager to learn and talk Smiley
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Next x10 coin on: September 08, 2017, 05:48:04 PM
Hyp, Nxs, Atl and Apx.
The lower the MC the higher the chance for it to explode Wink

NXS looks quite promising, big upwards curve overall. Might look into it more and see if it dips any time soon.

Not one to invest in ICO's but will keep a look out for ATL coming onto the market
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Next x10 coin on: September 08, 2017, 05:41:38 PM
None of those overpriced top 10 alts are going to get you x10.

Check out Zencash and Zcoin. Both superior to Monero, Dash and Zcash.

Why do you prefer these over Monero specifically? Monero seems to be the one that is trusted and although it has some issues it still seems to be fairly secure. Yes it's unlikely to go up x10 but I'd imagine it'll establish itself more and many of the smaller rival coins will fall rather than see huge gains
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What to buy these days? on: September 08, 2017, 05:14:20 PM
I'm not an expert but have been doing a fair amount of research and these ones I like a lot.

IOTA - Only listed on one exchange currently and has a lot of real world use and potential. Once it gets established onto other exchanges it's sure to rise a lot as people surge to buy it.

NEO - It's Chinese so it's dirt cheap right now compared to what it could be with all thats going on over there. Similar to Etherium, will rise once the turbulence calms down

Monero - Truly anonymous (or supposed to be) will be snapped up if regulations become harder + will likely be widely adopted for the darker side of things.

Ripple - Banks like it, starting to use it.

Others that look good and are low price compared to what they could be soon.

OmiseGo
STEEM
Qtum
Golem
Basic Attention Token

What are the good coins to buy these days and why?

Gnosis?
Digibyte?
ETH?
DeepOnion?
Else?

Why are Gnosis, Digibyte & DeepOnion attractive to you? I haven't really seen much in them so far myself.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: One of Bitcointalks advertisers 'JesusCoin' on: September 08, 2017, 04:57:50 PM
This is ridiculous but kinda funny. If it ever makes it onto an exchange i'll probably buy a few as I'm sure there are many that'll think like me and spend a couple of $ just for the fun of it, could make a profit haha... Ether ICO's are definitely getting out of control now, at least these guys don't try and hide the fact that they're a joke.
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: Have I missed something?? Markets tanked in minutes! on: September 08, 2017, 03:32:03 PM
Such is the nature of crypto. One minute you are reaping huge profits, then you go out to eat, come back and the market tanked 10%. Cheesy

I'm learning that quickly haha, it's great fun Cheesy kicking myself for buying more just before the dip but that's how things go hey!
12  Economy / Speculation / Re: Have I missed something?? Markets tanked in minutes! on: September 08, 2017, 03:15:42 PM
Get used to stuff like this happening, and if you don't have the stomach for volatility, you're in the wrong market. This is a dip of what, $250 or whatever?  That's nothing.  If it dropped by 50%, then that'd be something.

Think of it as a chance to get in at a cheaper price.  And we may not be done dropping, either.

It's not that I don't have the stomach for it, makes it all the more exciting. Just interested to see peoples perspective on what is going on and causing these changes. I realise they happen all the time but this was the most rapid drop I've seen in such a short space of time... Although I've not been in the game for long haha.
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: Have I missed something?? Markets tanked in minutes! on: September 08, 2017, 02:53:17 PM
I do not think the hurricane problems in US are causing the fall. China and other Asian countries are the big holders of altcoins. That's where the cause will come from.

I agree now, just hadn't seen this news before. This sounds worse than the ICO ban on the face of it but we'll have to wait and see, markets are picking up a bit now so hopefully it's a quick panic sell and wont carry on for too long... This is the second time in a week that I've bought hours before a crash, what a fool. Much to learn  Shocked
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: Have I missed something?? Markets tanked in minutes! on: September 08, 2017, 02:42:24 PM
Just found this...

"Abstract: According to the China Securities Journal, Bitco currency trading platform has become illegal economic activities, money laundering and bankers manipulate the price of looting of retail channels, supervision that should be banned as soon as possible.

Close to regulators said:

➤ Bitcoin trading platform has become illegal economic activities Money laundering and bankers manipulate the price of looting of retail channels, should be banned as soon as possible.

➤ In addition to the illegal economy and extortion, the basic application of Bitcoin is not currently seen.

➤ Money laundering with Bitcoin can bypass the regulation of the transfer of funds, especially in China, there are still capital controls in the case of such acts should be introduced as soon as possible regulatory measures.

➤ bets a bit currency trading platform, not a ban on Bitcoin. The banned platform is a channel to cancel a large amount of currency and currency exchange."

Could be something to do with the earthquake / hurricane... Do world events cause these changes? Big holders selling up as they've just lost everything else / helping others with aid etc and they have big reserves in BTC? Maybe I'm being silly, just cant find any concrete news of something within the market causing this.
16  Economy / Speculation / Have I missed something?? Markets tanked in minutes! on: September 08, 2017, 02:22:36 PM
Hey everyone, I'm new on here but have started investing in crypto recently and built up a nice (albeit small) portfolio.

Just noticed that pretty much everything has fallen 10-15% in literally a few minutes. I know the weekend and China announcement caused drops over the space of a day but this is insane. Maybe these things happen often on a Friday... Profit taking day etc, and they'll correct in the next hour or so as people buy in this huge dip.

I've not seen anything anywhere near this in the few months I've been trading. Have I just missed them previously or is something fishy going on?
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good ICO's since China's ban on: September 06, 2017, 10:34:34 AM
First time poster, been reading these forums for a while and started my crypto journey last month. Just a heads up... Easy to get suckered in by all these claims of a "good ICO". I've never invested in one and probably never will... These comments on kencoin were intriguing and I did some research, it's obviously a scam and the people posting about this coin are all newbies (like myself!) please don't fall for these claims.

But apart from that... Hey everyone! This China ICO ban has got me a little obsessed with the industry so I'm sure you'll see me getting more involved in this board from now in Smiley
