1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac / Terminus R606 (BM1387) Official Support Thread on: July 14, 2019, 09:01:45 PM
FWIW...my Odroid N2 only has USB 3.0 ports on it and I can crank my Newpacs and R606 to the moon on it using the Gekko USB hub. Never once had an issue pop up and have run my 606 all the way up to 775MHz for a few days without cgminer tuning it down.

I'm currently running the R606 at 700MHz and 2 Newpacs at 500MHz. WU is at 100%.

Like @DieselWeaseI, my Odroid N2 has been running flawlessly for three weeks, but with three R606s instead of one -- mine are trying to run @575MHz though, and all at 100% WU. The first R606 can only do 538 MHz @ Volt setting 4, the other two run @ 575 Mhz -- no problem.  The Odroid N2 has six cores (4x1.8 and 2x1.9) and 4Gb of ram  -- very nice little SBC running Ubuntu Mint.

Could anybody who is using this R606 in home, can share a detailed speed rates (TH/s) pls...

I have two R606s running off a Delta 2400 supply that is also running an Avalon miner.  The two R606s are two serial numbers apart, but far apart on performance:
The low one is: 732,487.17 MH/s over a two day period
The high one is: 783,674.91 MH/s over the same two day period

I guess the difference is because the ASIC chips are not binned.  Really that is all that it could be, same PSU, same computer.
Incidentally thanks @DieselWeaseI !  I purchased an oDroid-N2 to run these R606s and some staking.  The oDroid-N2 really runs great using Ubuntu 18.04 mate.  It runs rings around a low-power celeron that I was using.

Forgot to mention both R606s are at voltage setting 4 and trying to run 575 MHz.  The lower one will not go much over 536 MHz, the high one runs all the way at 575/575/575.

@vh I don't run Windows, my data point is Linux (Ubuntu 18.04)

@os2sam just another data point. With the new build (8e62f0b)
On my Ubuntu 18.04 low power celeron 1.83GHz x 4 box:
my R606 at voltage level 4 and 575 MHz
I am seeing 780 GH/s right now connected to ViaBTC.

The previous build would not get all three GSI units up to 575.  I would see something like 568/568/568 ...

Very happy with the new build on linux anyway.  Can't speak about Windows performance.

Also, on the Ubuntu box I do have to run with --gekko-lowboost , leaving off that option will cause all GSI units to eventually go offline.

New build: (d76cd8a) (9e51f0b)...

@vh  Thanks!  Your latest code has all three units running at 550 MHz whereas with the previous I could only see: 544/544/543 with voltage setting 4 on the R606
And, the ramp-up to 550 is much faster!

so anyone want to be placed on the list.
I think I will draw on tues or weds.
5  in so far for 1 free compac.  sidehack's older rarer usb stick
The catch is you had to buy a r606  from A legit seller. if you are picked.  You will need to show me proof you did buy it and of course  give me an address to ship it to.

@philipma1957 Please add me to the list for the compac drawing! Thanks!

The "Miner Earnings Comparison Table:" http://mining.tipsternet.com/miner.html shows the R606 @ S0: 489 GH/s  Watts: 39.12   J/GH: 0.080

Question:  Assuming the voltage setting 0, what frequency setting was used for the R606?

I received a replacement R606 from @sidehack yesterday.  It immediately started hashing away on my Ubuntu 18.04 LTS system along with the NewPac that has been running for several weeks.  No changes to the build or settings.   Many thanks to all who offered advice here, and especially @sidehack and @rockmoney who worked hard to get a replacement to me.  Any suggestions on the difficulty setting or other parameters are welcome!   It is a sweet-running mining machine!

Here is the output of the R606 with the voltage level set to 4, and the frequency running at 550 MHz running for about 22 hours:

@DaveF  Happy for you.  Mine is going back, and depending on how that goes I will probably just have to look at other equipment.

@Rockmoney the seller has not responded to my PM sent here, and calling the phone number listed just says "user busy."

@sidehack  Just to rule out the Ubuntu 18.04 industrial computer that works fine with the newpac,  but gets the chip errors with the R606, I got out a Dell Windows7 laptop.  Installed the latest build and the R606 fails in exactly the same manner.  Completely different hardware and different O/S.

Going to give @Rockmoney another couple hours, then just hit the return all button and be done with it.

Honestly I don't know what could be causing all those problems. Thought maybe the onboard 5V was wigging out, causing the USB chip to cycle on and off which would explain the disconnects, and also cycle the microcontroller and temp sensor so it keeps starting up to invalid state and blinking. But the timings don't make sense.

It's unlikely to have a bad temp sensor causing the blink. It's at least as unlikely to have a zero-chips-detected issue. It's basically impossible to have both. Did someone play baseball with it or something?

@sidehack
No the unit arrived today in pristine condition.  It was very well packed.  Also well protected from static.  I have tried the HP PSU and a known good 20 AMP brick with it as well -- no difference -- power supply at least is ruled out

@kingofhammers
I am using an industrial pc running Ubuntu 18.04.  The same exact build runs well on the NEWPAC to the same pool on the same computer.

Barring some miraculous revelation tonight, I will just send the unit back for either a replacement, or if none are available, just a refund.
Thanks to all for the attempts at help with this.

Gosh dangit, another one? See I've run every single one of those pods at least six separate times during different testing steps, including a burn-in test for 24 hours, and have yet to see it happen once.

I'll work on a firmware fix that makes "temp sensor is no good" blinking distinct from and much less obtrusive than "temperature is too high" blinking. And figure out why the heck the temp sensors are failing in these things. Heck I may just get rid of them entirely.

Also when I say "firmware fix" I mean literally a code change for the onboard microcontroller. What makes lights blink is completely independent from cgminer.

By the way, that condition's already been talked about so looking back in the thread a bit will catch you up.

Thanks @sidehack .
I do see where @kingofhammers had this issue, however if you look at the paste of cgminer (trying) to run, you will see that I get failures on GSI 0, GSI 1, and GSI 2, -- the unit settles at 0 chips found after resetting all the ASICs and the unit is never hashing.

I did rebuild cgminer using the May 14th build, so it is not the software.
Very frustrated at this point.

You probably need one of the new CGMiner released for the R606 as well.

Unless I hear from support here, I will try to call them tomorrow.  Not much point in continuing with the VCore lights blinking and all the chips doing "Toggling ASIC nRST". I had just built cgminer on Sunday, May 12, with a new git clone.  I did see where another update was released on May 14th.

Those lights are supposed to be solid.

Thanks.  I suspected as much.  Not good!  Tried it first with the new HP power supply, then dropped back to a 20AMP 12 volt brick. Same blinking lights with both power supplies.  Fan does run.  I can see the orange light on the pcb inside the unit.
15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac / Terminus R606 (BM1387) Official Support Thread on: May 15, 2019, 11:39:29 PM
Solid green means it's getting power. Blinking white means it's hashing. All of my miners work that way - solid color for general power, flash of white while mining (and blink rate generally proportional to hashing speed).

On the R606, the power light is orange and the white blinks are timed more like 2Pacs.

Thanks.  The R606 arrived today.   Regarding the VCore lights on the R606, are they supposed to alternate blinking?   It is very hard to figure out what the VCore setting actually is since they alternate from one state to the other continuously.

  • With the up button clicked eight times all three red LEDs are blinking.
  • Clicking down one time results in the top and bottom blinking on then the center on when they are off.

The unit is powered by the HP Power supply bundle with the breakout board and the 6 pin power connection.

I have tried using the R606 build that works perfectly with the newpack on Ubuntu 18.04, but with the R606, cgminer never starts working.

command started with:

Code:
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://pool.ckpool.org:3333 -u 367KFywb7XdAYUEY13aKXEz1t217Bw2SDE -p x --gekko-r606-freq 400  --gekko-noboost

Is there a guide to what the various light states mean on the NewPac USB miners?   I am trying to determine if a blinking white and solid green is the normal state?
Currently my new single NewPac at 100 Mhz is running at 22.61Gh/s at pool.ckpool.org
A R606 is on the way.
Thanks!
