I mostly watch videos to learn about blockchain (and Bitcoin) and web site information is more about news than the broad picture.

I read "Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin Is Changing Money, Business, and the World" by Don Tapscott and found it had a lot of interesting answers to the types of questions you asked.

I find Bitcoin information hard to read about. I've found watching videos to be much more instructive and YouTube has a ton of them.

However, you have to "mine" for gold to find good ones. I suggest getting an online course. I like the ones on Udemy which often go on sale for $10-$15 a course.

Khan Academy also has a bunch of intro courses for free.

Bitcoin does seem unfriendly at first, but it's getting more friendly every day. There are a lot of trusted sites that now let you simply create a wallet through a web interface. There are now Bitcoin ATMs -- there are 3 in my city now. Probably the best advice to learn about it is to go search on YouTube. There are literally hundreds of videos explaining almost every facet of the currency.
