"Yes, they [bitfinex] were hacked an lost a boatload of BTC. In my opinion they have learned from this epic fail and are now safer than before the hack.
They have been paying everyone back as quickly as they can."
That means I'd be paying for a past accident. I am not sure I like this idea. There is a term for this: damaged goods. It is like paying a tax you don't need to pay. If there is another exchange with similar liquidity they should have lower fees or more profit and stability, and I should use them instead.

Ok, so if you place a limit order that isn't instantly filled, the fee is what they call the "maker fee", which is 0.1% for bitfinex. That isn't too bad. It is 1/10th the charge of coinbase and 1/10th the cost of some stock trades.
Burt, how much was your donation, and how did they word that little exchange to you?

what do you need pair in trading, if you need altcoin trading poloniex and bittrex is the best placed if you want trading pair bitcoin/USD, bitfinex, btc-e,bitstamp,GDAX is good placed trading if you want margin trading in BTC/USD bitfinex and bitmex is the best place, if china exchanger not problem, huobi and okcoin is good placed too
Thanks for your answer. Why do I need a pair in trading? That is what trading requires. You trade one thing for another. You know what, you and Burt say what you think is best, but you fail to cite many of the specific reasons I was looking for. Please try to answer the questions I asked, if possible, since that is one way I can think of that says the cost. I know trust of failure is another question. I know altcoin trading is another question. But those aren't my specific questions here.

Thanks Burt. Do you know what their limit order fees are?
On a separate note, did you ever get your computers back from the government? Why weren't you able to sue them for attorney's fees?

I will update this initial post with the answers in bold people were kind enough to give so others can quickly get them and also know what is still unanswered and we need help on.I'd like to know where I should be trading bitcoins. I did some reading. People here suggested poloniex and bittrex. But, this contradicts https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_real-time_trading_exchanges, which lists neither!!! Needless to say, I'm confused. So let me ask three specific questions: Q1: If I submit a BTC/USD limit order, and it doesn't get filled before I cancel it, who will charge me the least? CURRENT BEST ANSWER = all exchanges = 0% (unfilled market maker order)Q2: If I submit a BTC/USD limit order, and it DOES get filled before I cancel it, who will charge me the least? CURRENT BEST ANSWER = bitmex = -0.0250% (filled market maker order), but bitmex is not allowed for usaQ3: Who allows shorting BTC? ANSWER: bitmex and bitfinexAlso, who has the smallest bid ask spread and/or most liquidity? I see way different prices on some of the exchanges listed at https://bitcoinwisdom.com/. Bitfinex seems to have the most volume, so they should have the tightest spread and biggest level 2 order book, correct? bitcoin.it implies that there is a taker and maker fee of 0.2% across the board. That is messed up to me, but about what I would expect in this somewhat corrupt world. I know at coinbase one can trade but the sell and buy prices are ~$10 USD different, or about 0.15% fee either way. Isn't there a sensible exchange in the USA with $10/trade rates like an old-fashion US stock broker? Do any exchanges allow trading on margin? EDITED ANSWER: bitfinex and bitmex.I used bitcoin.it to learn about a few exchanges, but the bid ask spread on them was ~$50 USD, which is way too wide to be going in and out, something I'd prefer to be able to do so long as it doesn't break the bank. Thanks. Jason

I have trixx installed, but dont use it for much. What do you sugguest doing with Trixx to help fix throttling? My temps are fairly low (76-77C) and the fan rarely spins above 40%.
Throttling if any is due to boost and/or high temps. Disable any boost and use trixx to set your fan at 100%. Any temps above 70C are high IMO, expecially because the heat from the gpu heatsink prevents the ram from being cool. It is normal for some fluctuations. Post a video of the cgminer or sgminer using option "-log 1".

virtualreality69, when exactly did the files get axed?
virtualreality69, the throttling is something you need to fix on your own. Do you use trixx?
Given what we know, and my post which Wipeout2097 further improved, it isn't a surprise. I do wish I knew the motive behind this. I don't need to know who is behind it. Just a motive. If anyone reading this knows, pm me and you'll get a very pathetic offer for some altcoins I've mined.
Here are 3 options:
Option 1: pm the persons(s) who had requested your exact bios.
Option 2: Actually, any bios will work if you use my proposed method and are willing to work a bit. I could probably give you the one I snagged. Do you want it?
Option 3: Suck it up. The same people who were able to get the dropbox files deleted might go after you too!! Might want to not do it or do it on the down low. If you have kids, this is your safest bet. You think I'm kidding...

Stock frequencies are giving me only like 530 khps. As you can see, I have the cooling and power to push this card to high frequencies, but then I only get 624 khps. Am I using a bad OS, driver, cgminer, or some other setting? setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1 cgminer.exe --scrypt [account stuff here] --thread-concurrency 8192 -I 13 -w 256 --log 1 OS+drivers+deets: see attached screen shot, but vista & cat 13.4 drivers. pci latency is at 64. Do I need to run BAMT, or can I just change a driver? Thanks in advance for any thoughts and comments. http://imagize[Suspicious link removed]ageshack.us/v2/992x795q90/844/xu79.jpg imagizer dot imageshack dot us/v2/992x795q90/844/xu79.jpg

Hi gang. This post is about an error I got when attempting to run pywallet.py, a python program that can be used to fix corrupt wallet.dat files. Here is the output pasted from an XP cmd window: C:\pywallet-master>pywallet.py --recover --recov_device c:\ancwallet.dat --recov _size 30Gio --recov_outputdir c:\recoveredwalletdir Enter the passphrase for the wallet that will contain all the recovered keys: password
Enter the possible passphrases used in your deleted wallets. Don't forget that more passphrases = more time to test the possibilities. Write one passphrase per line and end with an empty line. Possible passphrase: password Possible passphrase:
Starting recovery.

Question 1: does the recover function in pywallet.py look at the data directory? Question 2: how can I get rid of the EVP_aes_256_cbc error? Question 3: why does this program output stuff even though I got this error? Question 4: why is the "--recov_size" set to 30Gio? Is this how far into the corruptwallet.dat file it reads? Question 5: is "--recov_device" supposed to be the corrupt unreadable wallet.dat file or disk data with potential keys? Question 6: Why did it "recover" so many keys? Question 7: What are all the next steps to getting my altcoin-qt.exe program to loading or rebuilding my old wallet.dat again?

Is there something better than just logging in here and finding 300 posts of a coin that is already being mined by everyone? By the time I learned about primecoin it was already being mined by the nsa computers with a difficulty in the stratosphere.

What does [ANN] etc. mean? And can I get a full list of these acronyms?

The franko website says,
"Get your money FASTER.
Franko provides faster transaction confirmations (30 seconds on average)..."
Is this due to unpopularity (nobody uses it, so it is faster to use) or some fundamental difference in the code? Or is this bs?

I strongly endorse this project. I've invested my entire life savings purchasing bunnycoins (BNC). If you want to make it big, mine bunnycoins. It's green! Why? It's the bunny you don't need to buy carrots for! Unlike BTC, with BNC there is no need for a stupid e wallet that disappears when your drive crashes. BunnyCoiNs are stored here:

I'm not a newbee but I'm not allowed to post in the actual place I wanted to post. I'm posting here in order to respond to a post about pos verses other tweaks to bitcoin.
