1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum Mining with Linux installed PS4? on: August 31, 2017, 08:17:00 AM
PS4 uses an AMD Integrated GPU that has the same core count as a HD 7850 but lower clock and lower memory speed - on ETH it's not going to mine worth beans IF you can assign enough RAM to the GPU to mine AT ALL on ETH.

It would be MUCH more applicable to compare it to a A10 78xx series with twice the GPU cores - which can't mine ETH at all because the DAG file is bigger than the max RAM you can assign to the GPU.

It MIGHT be a viable ZEC miner, but even there the slow memory is going to hamper it - my testing on an A10-7890K gave around 11 sol/s, I'd guess the PS4 GPU might manage 2-3 times that.

An XBox One would work better, since they used GDDR 5 instead of DDR3 - but even THAT console probably won't be able to mine ETH and won't be particularly fast at ZEC mining.

In THEORY, either should be usable to mine on for SOME altcoins - just not worth the power cost of the console.

I know this is somewhat of an older thread but I'm sure there's still some interesting in mining on PS4 so just wanted to get the specs corrected. You're backwards on the xbox vs ps4 memory. It's the PS4 with 8GB of GDDR5 and XB One with DDR3. On PS4 developers also have a minimum of 4.5GB of that 8GB they have access to, which should be enough power to turn a profit, especially on the newer PS4's that are far more efficient.
