1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Binary-Chain - VeriCoin and Verium - The First Dual-Blockchain Protocol on: January 07, 2018, 03:42:39 AM
When I look at the mining statistics dashboard at http://veriumstats.vericoin.info, we see that there are roughly 1.4 million VRM in supply. Looking at the number of miners that are spitting out over 2,000 KH/s JUST at https://vrm.poolinat0r.com/index.php?page=statistics&action=pool and earning over 8,000 VRM A DAY, it seems that the remaining VRM supply will be gone within the next 60 days and there won't be any left to mine. Is my understanding correct?

do you have any non edu codes?

I see a lot of folks requesting non EDU codes. Is there something wrong with EDU codes or is it because you've already applied a lot of them?
If I've understood well, edu-codes couldn't be applied to non-edu (simple) aws accounts...
Sorry, a little bit mistake: non-edu codes could be applied to simple aws (non-edu) account But there is a big risk that your account will be blocked or non-edu code will be removed from your account credits.

Interesting...in my case, I applied three EDU codes and they are still there...for now anyway. Wink However, my AWS account is not new; I've had it for a few years and have been using it for a while. I'm guessing that because of abuse, AWS is more vigilant for new AWS accounts.

Can you please state if your codes are EDU or not? The $100 code is not clear if it is an EDU code.

The $150 codes I bought (3 to be exact) are EDU_ENG_FY2017_Q4_150USD codes. I applied all 3 to one AWS account, assuming that that is okay to do. I was able to apply without any issues.

Some people are still suggesting to solo mine with the VRM wallet vault, which is pretty easy right? Just install the wallet and click start
mining and then your good to go?

Obviously its going to eat up a huge % of my cpu so i shouldnt expect to do anything else with the computer after starting mining?

Lastly what everyones experience been with i5 series cpu's? Is it even worth it?

Maybe someone that successful solo-mined vrm with a home cpu can tell you better if this worth or not .. Personally I've tried unsuccefully solo-mine with a i7 4770k for a couple of days, then I switched to a pool .. can you specify which cpu are you using?
Whatever is your mining style you can always set up the number of cores involved in mining, my suggestion is to keep one or two free cores for normal activity, this should be enough for browsing, texting and such little tasks, but probably you can't run a game with it ... last thing, if your cpu is a "k" series you can consider some little overclocking that can give you good benefits, just do it very carefully and if you are not expert read a lot about it and let someone advice you, a new cpu and a new mobo can cost a bit ..

I'd be interested in hearing about someone that has successfully solo-mined as well. I gave it a try with more than a few hashes as you can see below, for about 4 hours and nothing. I probably need to be more patient... Sad

I'd like to buy but the transaction fee for BTC is more than the price of the goods at almost $15 USD. I'm happy to pay with ETH if you can do it.
7  Economy / Digital goods / Re: AWS $500 Credit on: January 03, 2018, 07:34:00 AM
"EDU_FY2017_Q3_10"... isn't that the $150 AWS promo code from the GitHub Student Developer Pack? Seems like an obvious scam to me, unless it can be proved otherwise. And there's no seller feedback, sheesh, but at least this post isn't set to self-moderate (those listings here on bitcointalk that have self-moderation enabled just screams scam!). Be careful with these sketchy selly.gg and rocketr.net sellers.

Agreed. And there are A LOT of these scams here. Another thing to be aware of is that when you purchase from rocketr.net, they expose your IP address to the seller as well so make sure to use some type of proxy. (or just don't buy at all, use escrow service)
8  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Selling $150 Aws Credit Codes Only $15 [Bitcoin and other alt coins accepted] on: January 03, 2018, 06:59:19 AM
heh suspended already on rocketr
j

I've been burned by this one; thankfully for only a small amount. The scammer is operating under multiple names (eg. CryptoTrader, TraderCrypto) and its just like whack-a-mole. They just make a new account once the old one gets suspended on rocketr.net. Despite all the negative feedback I wonder why the mods here don't ban the accounts that do this. Annoying.

Guys what are you talking about? You're saying maybe a pool is stealing some shares from every workers?

No, however.. people skimming shares from other miners has been an issue in the past.

Would you kindly explain exactly what "skimming shares" means for the benefit of everyone reading? Not only did you accuse me of doing it, I genuinely have no idea what you are talking about. As I wrote previously, I did make the mistake of coming in with too many hashes at a mining pool that wasn't meant for high powered miners, but it was not intentional. Threads like this pop up in Google searches so please add value by explaining what it is you are talking about. I did perform a quick search of "share skimming" but what I read (a hit from this site actually), share skimming could be the result of buggy mining software or people intentionally hopping into the top of shares about to solve a block. As for the latter, I don't do that as I have no idea how to do that.  I use the effectsToCause mining client on Linux and to my knowledge, there are no problems with it.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Bluzelle on: January 01, 2018, 11:05:20 AM
Not hating on bluzelle. But doesn’t Siacoin already solve this?  Decentralized cloud storage. Plus look at its gains. Almost 1 bill$ market cap Now.  Talks of an asic coming soon I’d say there is some decent money behind this tech. Could def be a watcher.

BR

It appears that Bluzelle is focusing on Database instead of file storage. From page two of their whitepaper:

Quote
Just like decentralized services like Filecoin and Storj are needed for file storage & management;
there is a need for data storage & management. Bluzelle is a decentralized, on-demand, scalable
database service for dApps.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Bluzelle on: January 01, 2018, 08:33:04 AM
I haven't mined bitcoin before, as it isn't feasible. I haven't mined any altcoins either. However, I am hoping to mine Bluzelle, which is a coin soon to be released in an ICO. Essentially it is for decentralized data storage and management.

Where can I go to start learning about how to mine a coin like this, and what type of hardware/software I might need? Do any of you have advice before I start prepping to mine?

I don't see any mention of mining on the Bluzelle website nor the whitepaper:

https://bluzelle.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Bluzelle-White-Paper-v-1.2.pdf

Perhaps try joining their Slack channel and ask them directly:

https://beertendr.com looks interesting, it's for smaller miners? Currently on the ovh pool, any advantage for a tiny miner like myself to move to beertendr?

I don't want to speak for the operator but that appears to be the case from what was posted at their twitter account: https://twitter.com/beertendr/status/915742356787392512

As for whether or not its the best, all I can say is give it a try. Wink

Happy holidays everyone! I think something is going on over at vrm.poolinat0r.com. It's the only place I've ever mined VRM but it has been about 4 months. Since VRM is going up, I went back to mine. I was sending over 300,000 h/m but my estimated earnings wasn't budging. I thought maybe it had something to do with the mining difficulty going up but then my estimated earnings started going in reverse! I stopped after about 8 hours and sent a message on their online form.

I then went over to https://beertendr.com, sent over all my hashes, and after 10 hours I have 16 VRM ready for confirmation and payment.

Something is definitely not right at vrm.poolinat0r.com and I hope it's just a problem with the dashboard as I don't want to lose all that work!

what exactly are you mining with to get 300,000H/m?
pictures of your rigs would be a treat to see.  Roll Eyes

Well, all I can say is that I'm not doing anything illegal but I'd prefer to keep my technique off the radar for now. I'm still experimenting and will spill the beans as soon as I feel comfortable. For now, here is a screenshot of my current mining at beertendr.com:

yes, skimming isn't illegal, it's just theft of mining shares. You don't want to elaborate on your methods, OK.. i for one don't trust your methods.

Guys what are you talking about? You're saying maybe a pool is stealing some shares from every workers?

I have no idea what the poster is talking about. I've only heard the term "Skimming" in the context of ATMs. However, I recently discovered that beertendr.com is not meant for high powered miners so if you came in like I did with a crap ton of hashes, then it does take away from the other miners. I didn't realize beertendr.com is meant for low powered miners so I sent a quick message to the operator and let him know that I didn't know. I'm guessing this isn't a common issue so for those of us that have the means to point a bunch of hashes at a pool, make sure it is in balance. I think I will just stick with solo mining and possibly do my own VRM pool once I learn a bit more about how to do it. Also, I still don't know what's going on with my account at vrm.poolinat0r.com but I do know that sending too many hashes was not the issue.

Hey all!
Just got into verium mining recently, any ideas which pool's the best choice for a few raspberry pis and XU4s?

I don't know which is the best, but I recently switched over to beertendr.com from vrm.poolinat0r.com (see my previous post on why) and things are working well (so far). You might want to check out the profitability calculator at https://pools.bloxstor.com/#/utilities to get an idea of what you might earn. I mined for a bit at pools.bloxstor.com but could not change the default payout setting so moved on to beertendr.com.

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VRM] Verium PoWT | CPU mining | scrypt² | Scaling | New Roadmap Released on: September 06, 2017, 03:10:37 PM
vrm.poolinat0r.com is back now. They even changed the minimum Automatic Payout Threshold from 15 to 7:

Quote
Automatic Payout Threshold
7 - 78 VRM. Set to '0' for no auto payout. A 0.21 VRM TX fee will apply

I have been mining with poolinat0r.com and I had just hit the minimum payout 15 VRM when I stopped my miners. I confirmed deposit at 2017-09-05 20:26:03 and then went to the vrm.poolinat0r.com website a few hours later and noticed that the site was down.

Both sites (vrm.poolinat0r.com & vrm2.poolinat0r.com) have been down at least for 24 hours - I just checked a few moments ago: http://www.site24x7.com/public/t/results-1504678062209.html

I switched to https://poolium.win/ and threw the hashes that I was using on poolinat0r.com but the pool is not displaying the correct hash values so I stopped after about 3 hours. I emailed support but haven't heard anything back but it's only been a few hours.

I liked poolinat0r.com, I hope nothing bad has happened...
