1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Two PSU: Risers-MoBo-GPU management on: November 28, 2017, 06:13:30 PM
I think method B is a lot less risky and that's the one I use for all of my rigs.

Method A : "It is risky to supply the motherboard and some risers with differents PSU. But supplying a GPU and his Riser with differents PSU is ok"
I don't think that the motherboard has any reasons to care about how you powered the risers. You only connect them together with the data cables ("usb"), it's a very low-power connection as far as I know. A gpu, on the other hand, can draw up to 75W from the riser, and a lot more from the extra 6/8-pin pci-e connectors, so it might not like the power coming from different sources.

But I don't have (obviously Cheesy) a deep understanding of this so also interested in others' opinions.

Make sense to me. Still a lot of people doesn't agree

Hello,

If you are running two PSU (with add2psu for example) on a rig with USB Risers, should you go method A or method B?

Method A : Connect one PSU with the motherboard and all the risers and some GPU. Connect the second PSU only with GPUs
Method B : Every GPUs have to be connected to the same PSU his riser is connected, so connect every (GPU+Riser) on the same PSU. Then connect the motherboard on one of the two PSU

In other words:

Method A : "It is risky to supply the motherboard and some risers with differents PSU. But supplying a GPU and his Riser with differents PSU is ok"
Method B : "It is risky to supply a GPU and the riser connected to this GPU with differents PSU. But supplying some risers and the motherboard with differents PSU is ok"

Or also

I know this has already been discutted but it seems there is a huge controversy in this with this subject. I found a lot of people on both side claiming that the other method is really risky.
Both team have "I have already used method X and no problem" claimers (until problem). So I suppose both configurations actually work but one of them is risky while the other is the actual way to go. But I have no clue wich one

Can someone sure of himself (not just because he always tried something without a problem) help me a bit here?  Huh

Thanks a lot for all your replies.
So I'll just instal the famous AMD blockchain driver and normally everything should be ok for both my R9 390 and my RX 580? (If not, it would be the case with just the latest driver?)

Wow, you really take this very seriously

Thanks for your reply. Still... Could you be a bit more specific with "just be specific with the settings for each gpu model". What are you exactly talking about here? (drivers?)
Because... I still got my drivers interogation, can't find the answer anywhere. Can I just... instal both drivers and... that's it Huh

Good laught on this one. (Did they actually paid for the add?)
I think you shouldn't take it too seriously about it insulting christian community, neither you should take jesuscoin as an argument to the "gov should regule ICO or not" question. Buuut that's just my opinion

I could definitely put 0,1$ worth into this if there wasn't transaction fees

Oops, true, sorry about the wrong section.

In fact, I own a R9 390, the part I have right now. And I am considering buying two RX 580. (The other option was to buy more R9 390 but I have a better buy opportunity with RX 580 and it also sounds more profitable)

Glad to hear I can mix up those. Still can you tell me a bit more about how to manage the driver then? (or others things I would have to manage in this case)
Can I just instal both drivers and it will automaticly be ok? Because I don't think I am in a "one driver for both cards" scenario

Hello guys, I'm kinda noob and planning on building my first rig.
The thing is I'd like to mix different GPUs. Is it possible? What is happening then about the drivers?
I can't find online good answer to this question (most answers are outdated, some says it's impossible, some that it is completly possible and that I can even mix Nvidia and AMD GPUs, some that I can but only if there is one driver beeing good for all the GPUs, like the same driver for 580 and 570)

I'm looking for an actual answer before buying things!

Concretely, I would like to put starter rig with one AMD R9 390 and two AMD RX 580. Is it possible? If yes, how do I manage the drivers? (and also, wouldn't the mix up make me lose too much hashrate?)

Thanks for your answers! I'm completly lost about this one!
