I've had my 8 s9's for about 6 months now so far I've had to change 1 control board and from what it looks a second one will be going out soon as well as 1 hashing board that I have to send for repair now and not to mention that 2 or 3 ( don't remember) s9's have completely failed on me , that was within the guarantee time so I got them repaired for free but at the same time I had to pay around $70 to send each unit back by EMS and wait for about a month and a half to get it back.  It took them around 2-3 weeks just to confirm that they've received them. Now that they have a repair center in the U.S I'm sure that things might be faster but I don't know.

In my case from what it looks the control boards keep going out when the electricity keeps getting shut off very often or because of spikes, I think it can even brake just from some static electricity so I wouldn't recommend you touching it too much.  It is important to have a good power supply so don't be stingy and get a good one right away or it will cost you more later and having an extra power supply is a good idea as well as having an extra control board so that if one of these 2 brake you won't loose BTC, waiting or even looking for them.  Waiting for some parts or for your unit to get repaired is the worst thing!  I hope I didn't discourage you too much but it is the reality.  I keep my miners as cool as I can but where I'm located even with a special cooling system I can only have the room temp at around 27c and max I try not to get it go beyond 31-32c and I can tell you that at 27c they seem to work a lot more stable and even put out more hash.

Hope that helped! Happy mining!  Wink

Thats great, very useful information. Much appreciated. Its not put me off, but I do have a spare 3kw UPS system laying about, I'll run it through that, along with a good PSU. My room temp is around 27deg C here. Windows open trying to keep the office cool, and that just with 1 x S5, lol. Going to be a different climate with the S9, good job its winter coming.

It can get annoying and pretty expensive keeping the s9's in tip top shape!  I'm glad that I got a couple control boards now so that I won't have to wait if another one goes out.

Are S9's prone to failing? what tends to go wrong? what causes it? I guess heat wont help with the life. I have ordered a new S9 and reading this post has got me wondering, when is it likely to go wrong? will it last a year? or is it more like 6 months?

Thanks for the heads up. I really want to get one. I have signed up to the Bitmain website, can I just watch and wait till 2pm(their time) and get it in the shopping cart or is the ordering done another way?
Yes you can place the order now. Be quick, it will not last long.

Thanks, I have ordered one. Smiley, will certainly be an upgrade from the S5 i'm running. Elected to pay via USD transfer (as not enough bitcoins yet), so must nip to the bank within 7 days to get that completed Smiley

With that block dance, it should create some raining blocks. Fingers crossed.

@Kano >> What is the record of the delay between two found blocks ?

Looks like there was a block that took over 5^12 diff's, currently Kano is on 4^12. So not the record yet, (if I reading it correct)
2062   480516   15.09408873   2017‑08‑14 17:38:21   Matured   5,270,447,045,941   570.869%   0.997   95.44%   61
hash rate for that month was around 81Ph/s, That would have taken 62 hours to where we are now (54h)
So 77 hours to process that block.

$1310 sounds like a pretty fair price.

How do I get on the pre-order list?

Nope, I think it's my fault. I had our 8 Avalons in the pool when we had that 5 block day. 60/THs. Then I pointed 42 of our S9's in to bring us up to 600/THs and everything dried up.

Wow, 42 x S9's that's some serious kit and power, hashing rate and kw.

I have just 1 x S5. Only just started mining, wanting to move an S9 in the next few month's.

Just joined Kano pool, moved from Slushpool. Since i joined Kano, only 2 blocks have completed, and currently on 49 hours for the current block. Hopefully the luck will change, and will be a burst of shorter ones. Tongue

31hours so far on Kano. Looking at recent average it should be around 1 a day. Hopefully fruits appear soon. Seen many blocks I have missed on Slush Sad.

Been on Kano for around 18 hours now, two blocks have been rewarded.

Notice the 'Your N Avg' is only around 300Gh/s, but the Miner is doing around 1.1Th/s at present. Also notice 'Your N Range' this is the amount of hours your work is averaged over, so around 5 days it will take for my 'Your N Avg' to reach the correct throughput value.
This is okay, as we can roughly predict the rewards from this. (0.00004807 / 302.62) * 1100 = 0.00014855 BTC per block

Recently Kana has been roughly doing a block per day over the last 5 blocks. Lets take an average over the last 25 blocks. Taking 13.5 days to complete. So almost 2 blocks a day. 1.85 blocks processed in a day.

So a rough daily reward going by the results in the last 25blocks/2 weeks is, 0.00014855 * 1.85 = 0.00027509 BTC per day using the Antminer S5 @ 1.1Th/s.

I have switched to Kano today as well after reading this thread. I was on Slushpool for about 5 days. I'm new to mining, so learning and trying things out.
Was getting around 0.00003000 BTC per block on Slushpool, they could come up between 4 and 8 times a day.
So on Slushpool since 13th Sept till end of Sept 17th, a 1.1Th/s (Antminer s5) made 0.00192176BTC.  So around 0.00048044BTC a day on average.

So I'll leave it on Kano for a week and see if there is a noticeable difference.
