I'm yet to find a Cryptocurrency that Is not a shitcoin,   and believe me I've searched. There ARE some better disguised than others under layers of technical obfuscation,  but all have intractable flaws that lead them to become either centralized over time,  or Oligarchies controlled by a small group of whales.

I've found a "few" projects with real potential for a breakthrough,  but they involve the creation of a whole new programming language and are no where near guaranteed to achieve the holy trinity of Secure/fast AND decentralized,  so for now we make do with shitcoins,  current tech right now is secondary (as they are ALL broken) to focusing on projects that have gone full bore on reaching the masses with Crypto by positioning themselves correctly.

And out of those few,  the one that swaps in their placeholder blockchain for the "Secure/Fast AND decentralized" ledger tech the quickest (IF and WHEN it is developed and released)  will be the coin that rises in that generation of Crypto.

Besides, All cryptos are shitcoins right now, no one's figured out how to make a decentralized ledger that ISN'T one yet.

It's still a case of  Secure/Fast/Decentralized,  pick any two.

It's a "shitcoin" that's put itself right where it needs to be to have the best shot at mass adoption out of most other cryptos.
https://medium.com/coinmonks/the-electroneum-ecosystem-411b46a1c1b6

It's a coin made for the 99% ,  and like with VHS vs Betamax,  that's where success lies.
You look down on it because you're the 1% it's not aimed at.

Just because I'm acting as a layer between Starbucks and the customer doesn't mean they are going to have to wait any longer for their coffee,  should be pretty much straightforward from their side.  Scan the QR code,  Pay, Sit down and they get their free coffee brought to them about as fast as if they had ordered from the counter themselves.

perhaps you should provide a set-up where you credit google play/App Store accounts for electroneum.

That's not a bad idea, Thankyou!   worth a punt anyway....

And I don't know why you are referencing the speed of Bitcoin transactions while trying to promote Electroneum as a quicker alternative by acting as a manual payment processor?

Why not?  I want to see THIS: https://youtu.be/G9kfftkWJy8?t=48 being used in store by customers before it is even officially on their system,  it's quick and easy for customers to pay,  and they get their coffee as fast as when paying with Fiat.

Personally I want All coins to do well,  including any you hold,  there's some great Ideas on this Forum thread about the little easy things you can do to help yours...

Easy little things that everyone can do easily,  and when everyone does them they have a BIG effect.

This is a really dumb idea considering Starbucks is already planning on accepting Bitcoin as a means of payment. If you want to shill Electroneum with a publicity stunt it should be one that provides a bit of substance, similar to the Bitcoin pizza guy you are imitating.

And what things of substance would you suggest?     The hallmark of good criticism is being able to provide a better alternative to the parts that are wrong.

If you can help me with this, correct me where I am wrong (and when I'm wrong I wish to be proved so,  so I may become right!),  and I will gladly incorporate your contributions and thank you for them,  that's what community is for.

Besides,  with the One hour payment times,  and extremely high fee.  No one is buying Coffee with bitcoin anytime soon,  and Lightning network is a long long way away,  but that's OK, Bitcoin isn't a transactional currency for little things like groceries and buying coffee. Bitcoin is the Gold standard,  the Store of value Crypto.  It's the gold in Crypto fort nox.

ETN has all the pieces to do what I need it to do,  for this test trial RIGHT now.    And is a legitimate company here in the good old United Kingdom with a doorstep and accountable leadership.

Is anyone here familiar with Point of sale software? I want to put together a mobile setup equivalent of this: https://youtu.be/G9kfftkWJy8?t=48

Simplified if possible, requiring only to punch in the amount, then for it to display the QR code.

On 1 screen if possible, but could always plug in another mobile screen.

I’m currently investigating and learning it for myself, but this will be quicker if someone is familiar enough with POS software and ETNs instant payment API to walk me through the process step by step, and direct me to anything I’ll need to buy in order to do it.

I don't mean to discourage you but how about we nation wide offer to tip in Electroneum. It will have to be in the less busy ones where the cashier can have time to ask what is that and how do you download it/use it.

Aironeous This tipping Idea is pretty good and fits into and enhances the main plan perfectly, What’s your ETN address? I’ll Tip you for it,  appropriate no?

Indeed, I am Preparing an Email now to send to head office,  I'm taking my time making it,  I'll pass it by the community for the once, Twice and Thrice, over.    And you can make suggestions to help refine it.

Just an Update on progress, I’ve been in contact with the Electroneum team, and the response has been positive, They are going to read the forum post and it’s possible I will have the guidance and support, or at least a little advice from them on how to proceed in a professional manner that will have the best chances of a effective outcome for everyone.

I am also preparing what I will need for a tentative trial I will undertake myself before I have volunteers to move to the next stage.

I’ll be looking for volunteers from the community in the North wales area, I will need some extra hands to carry out this Plan if Starbucks does not actively participate.

I’ll have joe public buying Starbucks coffee with ETN one way or another.

I'd prefer people who already know the basics of Crypto,  but if no one volunteers I'll be getting a couple of the people I know up to speed on crypto.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 🍮ℂℝ𝕐ℙ𝕋𝕆 𝕋ℝ𝕀𝔸𝕃 𝔸𝕋 𝕊𝕋𝔸ℝ𝔹𝕌ℂ𝕂𝕊🍮 on: September 27, 2018, 10:25:16 AM
I think this is actually a great Idea.  Since I'm giving out £10 worth of ETN per customer,  They are going to have change in ETN.     Easy enough to mention they could tip the staff with their ETN change,    And help the staff get Electroneum on their phones so they can accept the tips.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 🍮ℂℝ𝕐ℙ𝕋𝕆 𝕋ℝ𝕀𝔸𝕃 𝔸𝕋 𝕊𝕋𝔸ℝ𝔹𝕌ℂ𝕂𝕊🍮 on: September 26, 2018, 09:30:56 PM
No worries,  not much is going to discourage me at this point.  If it's possible,  It's getting done.

And that's not discouraging,  that's a good idea.      You mean simply tip the staff in ETN,   through their smartphones perhaps?

Not actually though the cashier payment terminal?
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 🍮ℂℝ𝕐ℙ𝕋𝕆 𝕋ℝ𝕀𝔸𝕃 𝔸𝕋 𝕊𝕋𝔸ℝ𝔹𝕌ℂ𝕂𝕊🍮 on: September 26, 2018, 06:22:49 PM
In the worst case scenario If they don’t agree, might take a few people to pull this off. One to have the sign offering free coffee outside, and getting people to install Electroneum on their phones and accept enough ETN to buy a coffee, then someone else inside with a laptop who the guy outside would send people to, who would accept ETN payments and buy the coffee for them. Wouldn’t draw too much attention from any manager or staff.

Could ramp it up to three people if we can find volunteers. Sign guy, Laptop guy, then another guy to buy coffees and bring them to the people who ordered them with ETN from the laptop guy.

Would look pretty inoccuous to the Starbucks staff, they might think it’s just a group meeting at starbucks and buying coffees haha! But in reality, it’s joe public people comming into starbucks and buying coffee with crypto.

The trick to achieving the impossible, is keeping those who say it can’t be done away from the people who are doing it
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / 🍮𝒞𝑅𝒴𝒫𝒯𝒪𝒞𝒪𝐹𝐹𝐸 𝒯𝑅𝐼𝒜𝐿 @ 𝒮𝒯𝒜𝑅𝐵𝒰𝒞𝒦𝒮🍮 on: September 26, 2018, 05:25:11 PM
Hello everyone  Cool, this is something something I’ve been planning to do with CryptoCurrency for a long time now, that the mobile Instant Payment system that Electroneum released has finally made possible. 😍

I'm willing to be the "Pizza guy" for ETN.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
I’m working on a multi pronged campaign to get Joe public walking in off the street and buying coffee at Starbucks.

I have a short term plan for a workaround solution that will have people discreetly buying coffee at starbucks without requiring any initial support or participation from starbucks themselves.

And also running in parallel, a long term plan to work towards incentivizing Starbucks themselves to dip their toes in the water.

Both plans run in parallel, supporting and complimenting each other.
.
.
.
Initially before any of the plans really start, as a prologue I will be buying coffee at the starbucks I intend to hold this trial at, and tipping the staff with £5 worth printed Electroneum foldable wallets like this

Yes,  there's a few etn on that wallet to swipe if you're quick enough.

With an introduction to Electroneum, how its value is increasing, some web links to news articles, Electroneum.com ect, and instructions on how to install Electroneum on your phone printed on the other side of the A4 sheet.

All this in order to prepare them for receiving tips from customers in the later on, as will prove important for the long term adoption plan.
.
.
.
The short term grassroots level plan involves me, and volunteers paid in ETN acting as an abstraction layer between the customers and Starbucks, Similar to how Drivers bridge the gap between Software and Hardware.

And initially to kickstart things We will have a stand outside offering free coffee at starbucks, where people who are interested in free coffee can be guided on how to install electroneum on their phones, then receive £10 worth of ETN to be used to buy their coffee at the nearby starbucks.

£10 in ETN will importantly leave them change left over in ETN from buying a coffee…

And it’s easy enough to mention to them that they can tip the staff in ETN…
Perhaps even enter them into a raffle to win prizes if they ask to tip the Starbucks staff with their etn change…

All of this, as the backer for this campaign I will foot the bill for.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

The spin off effects from this short term plan will prepare the ground for the long term plan, as mentioned earlier.

For example because of the initial groundwork in preparing the staff to accept ETN tips, the staff will be ready to accept the ETN tips from the customers of the trial.

“once the customers keep asking to tip in Electroneum then it shows the staff and manager that their customers consider it money. If the staff consider it money you are one step closer to getting it accepted by the store without having to sales pitch them.”

“The concept is if people/customers consider it money and employees consider it money, what is there left to sell the business owner on? Very little because it’s money.”
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

And then the other side of the pincer closes in, in the form of this community Petition letter, signed by and sent in by as many people as we can muster:

================================================
    Dear Sir or Madam

I would like to ask if you would be willing to participate in a short Trial in accepting Cryptocurrency in the form of the of the recently developed “Electroneum Instant Payments” API in one of your establishments on a limited basis to establish its viability.

This is the first time we have deemed a CryptoCurrency to be viable for this Mass Adoption use case.

This would be at no financial risk to yourselves, As our community will provide not only the Cryptocurrency (Electroneum) but also we will pay up front the full amount of Standard Fiat Currency (Pounds Stirling) for the limit of this test (2 to 3 days and £1000 worth of product)

This is how confident we are in the ability of this new breed of cryptocurrency to fulfill all the requirements necessary to meet the demands of a commercial enterprise such as yourselves.

Essentially you will sell £1000 worth of product, Receive the full £1000 amount in Great British pounds cash, AND additionally receive £1000 in the form of cryptocurrency (Electroneum) So you will in essence be paid twice for participating in this trial, with the added benefit that the £1000 worth of cryptocurrency is likely to vastly appreciate in value.

The payment in Great British Pounds will also insure you against the potential volatility present in the burgeoning CryptoCurrency marketplace.

Electroneum also complies with KYC, and AML laws in order to satisfy regulations , This is the first cryptocurrency that goes this far in order to achive the goal of being legitimately recognized as a law abiding currency fit for mass adoption by individuals and commercial enterprise.

Consider this is an opportunity to show to the world at large that StarBucks Coffee embraces opportunities to always be at the cutting edge of society and technology by working with the British Cryptographic Community, and with the official CryptoCurrency of Great Britain.

Yours sincerely, (insert your name here)

I’m now doing the groundwork to get this ball rolling, one way or another I’m getting this done. If you hold ETN and you want to pitch in, hit us up with all your Ideas and lets weave them together into this master plan.

18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Credits Telegram channel is censoring valid concerns. on: April 11, 2018, 09:23:30 AM
I've decided to discuss this here as Credits telegram admins are intent on Invoking the Streisand effect,  to everyone's detriment.

I tried to get some answers there,  but was immediately shut down,  so I'm re-posting the post i put to Telegram here:

...................................................................

I've been seeing people with valid concerns and questions being kicked out by the admins intent on invoking the Streisand effect,  so copy this message incase it is deleted,  as I'd like some advice in private chat.

I admit, I freaked out a little when it came to my attention that the team couldn't solve a technical issue they ran into with one of the simplest problems in Software,  streaming a livestream on youtube,  something children playing minecraft can do.....                                                                       And couldn't even improvise an Ad-Hoc solution on the spot to meet the deadline,  when they are surrounded by smartphones and webcams built into laptops and tablets.........                                                             And THIS is the team we expect to be able need to pull off one of the most technical feats of software engineering?  AKA  Decentralised Leger based cryptocurrency,  the most ragged and bleeding edge of software development...   This is concerning is it not?                                                                                                                  I'm out for now,  and many others like me think the same thing.                 True, Maybe it is slightly hyperbolic.  But this is Crypto we're talking about.                                                                  I'm sold and out and not even thinking of buying in again until we get some solid good news that proves the team has even a remote chance of success at achieving the impossible.      And when that good news comes,  I'll be scrutinising it and discussing it with peers.    And if the good news not solid, verifiable,  and just vague promises and marketing.....  Then thats that.  Done, End of.

Am I just overreacting?  I believe I've made a fair decision based on the observable reality,  but maybe I'm wrong,  I've been wrong before....  But I've learnt from those mistakes,  and one of the things I've learnt is to listen to others more experienced than myself,   And I'd like to hear others opinions...

If I'm not allowed to discuss that here due to Censorship and  admins intent on invoking the Streisand effect,  I'd appreciate links in private message to fair open third party Telegram channels where I can.

Thankyou :-)

......................................................

I'd like to have a discussion here about the credits team,  and hopefully gather evidence,  if there is any,  that the team behind Credits really does have the best technical minds in the arena of programming Decentralised ledger based crypocurrency,  to the degree that they really do have any chance at all of pulling off the seemingly impossible task of achieving anywhere near 1,000,000 Transactions per second in a decentralized manner.

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DECENTRALIZED crypto currency (including Bitcoin) is a delusion (any solutions?) on: March 01, 2018, 10:09:44 PM
What doesn't hold up is Emins reputation.

They seem really enthusiastic about him being an advisor,  someone even said this in response to that last statement that Sky Guo said about having discussed the DDOS issue with Emin:

"Man, how many people on Earth can say "I've discussed with Emin...". Team has an all star group of advisors"

What is the deal with Emin?  Why do some people think so highly of him,  and why doesn't his rep hold up?

And more importantly does Cypheriums POW+BFT with so called "anti DDOS" Tech hold up to scrutiny?

Ultimately it will centralize due to being a POW crypto,  but will the tech hold water until that eventuality?
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DECENTRALIZED crypto currency (including Bitcoin) is a delusion (any solutions?) on: February 28, 2018, 06:16:13 PM
I just stumbled upon Solidus, a proposed Cryptocurrency based on permissionless Byzantine Consensus:

Quote
In summary, this work presents Solidus, a scalable and incentive compatible cryptocurrency based on a fault-tolerant committee and permissionless Byzantine consensus. It is secure against withholding attacks such as selfish mining and provides instantaneous confirmation of transactions. Perhaps a limitation of Solidus is that the protocol is currently rather complex. It remains interesting future work to simplify and improve the Solidus protocol.

Solidus uses PoW for leader election to adapt the Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) protocol to a permissionless setting. It comes with a whole set of incentive
mechanisms for different kinds of actions. As far as I can tell, it's far more sophisticated than BitcoinNG and ByzCoin and (promises) offers quite some advantages over them. However, it still relies on the assumption that at least 2/3 of the computing power is controlled by honest nodes.

The PBFT protocol is notoriously complicated!  There is a derivative called RAFT that is simpler and easier to develop, but there is still a lot of complexity involved.

It's a novel idea though, one that I myself briefly researched quite some time ago, but I decided to steer clear of modifying traditional Byzantine consensus algorithms with POW/POS et all for a number of reasons.

Traditional byzantine consensus algorithms are designed to be used in private/permissioned systems (which is why a lot of companies touting private blockchains are using them as their consensus foundation).

They make an implicit assumption that the majority of actors in the system are permissioned, and that faults will most likely be hardware failures, connection issues and such....not actors that defect maliciously.

From their inception that assumption has held largely true and they have performed very well at enabling fault tolerant synchronization of data-centers and the like across the globe for many years, with almost all of the big centralized players using some variation of PBFT/RAFT to do so.

Permissionless however is a different beast altogether.   Using POW as the function to determine leadership is a nice idea, and it does mitigate Sybil to a large degree...but...that still leaves a rather large problem...DDOS.

I skimmed the paper that you mentioned and I could find no mechanism detailed to prevent DDoS (perhaps I missed it?  I plan to read in more detail tomorrow as its 4AM now).  It mentions at the end of the paper that DDoS is harder to perform due to the committee, but the presence of the committee, while it might help to prevent complete stalls, doesn't appear to reduce disruption possibilities IMO.  For the record the ease of DDoS, and the difficulty in guarding against them was the main issue that caused me to swiftly abandon my own research.

The issue lies in the fact that with a permissionless leader based Byzantine algorithm, it is trivial to discover who you need to DDoS to disrupt the network as you are internal to the network itself!

The "timeouts" of PBFT are required so that a node can monitor the current leader and signal when it thinks an election process is required.  It also means you know who to attack so that an election signal is broadcast from the network majority, the processes is triggered, and once complete, you now know your new target.

Repeating that process can deadlock the network in a never ending cycle of elections where no transactions get processed (or processed very slowly).

This DDoS technique is more difficult in a permissioned environment as you are unable to determine who is the leader of that network unless you have managed to obtain permission.  Even then, safe-guards can be implemented that can detect DDoS attacks much easier and ban or remove that node from the network topology and revoke connection permissions.

With permissionless thats not possible, obviously, as the attacker just spins up another node and re-connects and is immediately able to discover who to attack.

Cypherium appears to be using POW+BFT,  they say they have a solution to the DDOS issue.  Here's what they said...

"" I’ve discussed with Emin regarding DDoS issue. He suggested we use Bitcoin’s method, which limits the number of connections by IP prefix. Also, a local PoW can be carried with the message to deter DDoS. I’ll check with our engineer. ""

Does it hold up however?
