1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: BITCOIN QT NOT RECOGNIZING PASSPHRASE on: November 20, 2013, 12:35:58 AM
Type out the passphrase in notepad or some other editor to check if it really comes out the way you think it does. Capslock and accidental keyboard-layout-swaps can cause this type of confusion.

Did you successfully unlock the wallet with this passphrase before? In other words: Are you sure you used the passphrase you intended when you first encrypted the wallet? Writing it down on a piece of paper won't help much if you accidentally entered it with capslock enabled.

ALCON: happy to report that after several hours of focus time (crazy to think I spent that much effort for 12 character encryption) - I "cracked" my own code. Good thing too...given the recent activity!

 Angry

When I encrypted my wallet (Bitcoin QT), I did so with a 12 character passphrase. I checked it about a thousand times before committing to it...even had my wife read the characters back to me after I checked them. I wrote it down, printed it out (paper backup)...etc. etc.

I have 3 BTC on the wallet - and today decided to move some back to Coinbase to have some to "play with".

Much to my dismay...Bitcoin QT is telling me my passphrase is wrong.

I'm not stupid and as mentioned, I took ridiculous steps to ensure I copied everything correctly.

Please help. A reward will be given in BTC for anyone who can.

Cheers,
Shankopotamus.

minus -

Interesting you bring this up. Even after posting that last eve I stumbled upon an entire movement claiming that at it's base, Ripple is a Government initiative trying to wrangle the "crypto-cats". Now I'm no conspiracist, but the idea is actually NOT that far-fetched. We'll see how this shakes out!

Bitcoin: My family thinks I've lost my mind...but I've adopted the concepts - I've invested some shackles - I'm hooked. Now "Ripple" garners my interest and today it only became more interesting!

Google is known for investing in companies (or concepts) that have staying power...check this out if you've got the Ripple Tickle.

As for me...along with my newbie status on here...goes my newbie status on Ripple! From what I've learned, I need find someone with a huge heart and a few extra XRP. If you'd like to help get me started...I'd be much obliged!

@acne...

what about ripple sucks? I've been trying to research it as best I can - and so far, I've read everything from it being a gov-controlled conspiracy to try and regulate the free currency market...to it being "The next Bitcoin". Regardless, any info you have is appreciated.

Thanks!

Vike...

Welcome man - newbie as well (at least on here). I think your site idea is an awesome one. There is such a ridiculous amount of information about BTC / LTC / etc. that it's almost taxing to parse through everything. If you could effectively marry the two in a glorious orgy of Crypto Currency romance explosion...veeeerrrryyyyy NAAAIIICCCEEEE (sorry, went Borat on ya) - Do it up!

Any info you have about how you got started mining would also be appreciated.

Cheers bud.

I've been researching Ripple - and I'm still not clear on whether or not this is another alt-coin or something completely different. The best explanation I read was likening XRP to a USPO stamp. Users of Ripple exchange will need XRP to transfer BTC / USD / Etc. at a much MUCH lower fee than traditional avenues. Anyway...this is probably in the wrong thread - chalk it up to a newbie!

Regardless...loving this stuff!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. As many have already stated, while a physical paper (laminated) wallet is a good way to keep your bitcoins secure, "betting the farm" on a savings of strictly bitcoin is probably not the smartest move right now. If you have a coinbase account, two-factor authentication is another good way to get that "warm fuzzy". All you need is an app called "Authy" - research it at www.coinbase.com if you've never heard of this before.

I wish you the best my friend.
