1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OneCoin - Exactly what do you think will happen? Will owners lose everything? on: January 13, 2018, 04:32:22 PM
From what I hear, they're going to exchanges in October. Might be good for the first few that sell.

Yeah, it's my understand they go public on October 8th. So wouldn't EVERYBODY try to sell at that point? I mean, there's no buyers, because everybody who haven't already bought realizes it's a shit coin. And everybody who already have invested and realized it's a shit coin, can't sell. So that's why I think hell breaks lose in October. But maybe some time after the initial sell of, it could be possible to get a decent price...?
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / OneCoin - Exactly what do you think will happen? Will owners lose everything? on: January 13, 2018, 04:09:28 PM
I have a friend who put some money in OneCoin. She realizes now that it was probably not a good idea.

I read everywhere about who it's a scam etc. and would never touch it personally, but damage is already done.

But exactly what do you think will happen? In my opinion, it seems to be a too large company to just take the money and dissappear.

In my understanding, what will happen is that once it goes public, everybody will try to sell at the same time, which cause the price to collapse. But I don't know too much about this project.

What do you think will happen?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What's your non top 100 altcoin favorites? on: January 13, 2018, 03:04:15 PM
Both possible pump and dumps, and coins with actual great tech and value is welcome. Only coins ranked over 100 on coinmarketcap.com!

Please specify:

1. Coin and symbol
2. Is it primarily a possibility for short term gains (pump and dump) or do you actually believe in it?
3. Why do you think it will increase? (E.g. cool name/great marketing? Or actually unique and good tech/developers?)

Anyone know how to remove currencies? (non-coin):

I imported all transactions from all exchanges I used and all currencies show correctly. But EUR is listed with a 70% loss for some reason (I used EUR to buy all coins). This ruins the "sum/profit", so I want it gone. When I see the manual entries, I can't find any entry for EUR to delete. Anyone know what to do?
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the purpose of a hardware wallet? You need a paper backup anyway? on: December 08, 2017, 04:04:59 PM
Thanks for all replies! But I still don't understand why you would need a hardware wallet, unless you frequently send large amounts of bitcoin.

There's really nowhere to use bitcoin as of today (I have owned bitcoin for 5 months, and still haven't had any real world use). And even if I find someone accepting bitcoin, it's pretty useless because of fees?

Because of this, I do not consider bitcoin a currency, but rather an alternative for gold/saving, with some advantages.

So since I can't use it anywhere, I don't make transactions that often. But I will keep a <$500 wallet on my phone, which I don't see any point in securing anymore than my phone is secured.

The rest of my bitcoins I intend to hodl. They are currenctly on an exchange, and I want to move them out of that exchange and hold for a year++ (unless hell breaks lose). So that's why I wonder if there's any point in buying a harware wallet for storage, since it would also need a paper backup... In other words, it isn't really safer to store.

Am I correct in assuming that a hardware wallet is primarily useful for anyone who actually use bitcoin for transactions? Not hodling, and not micropayments?
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is the purpose of a hardware wallet? You need a paper backup anyway? on: December 07, 2017, 05:47:39 PM
Everybody talks about hardware wallets, but I can't understand what it solves. In my case (and probably for most people), you would want one wallet for "daily" use, and a wallet for long term storage (savings account).

The daily use wallet doesn't require much safety (<$500), so a mobile wallet with the passphrase saved somewhere would work fine.

But what about the "savings account"? It doesn't make much sense for me to buy a hardware wallet? What problem does it solve? As far as I understand I would still need to save the passphrases on a paper anyway (in case of hardware failure), so why can't I just print the private key instead?

Also, is there no where to see a nice list of all coins, with average purchase price, and total gains? Something like this https://i.imgur.com/t3mBWxj.png
Like the screenshow I would like an easy overview of all coins, with the following data: Amount, Average purchase price, Current value, Current profit in percent and local currency. And at bottom the total value of all coins, and total profit in chosen currency.

3. Registering as a company makes no difference since I won't have any taxable sales I can write it off against.
Sales, no.
However since you are mining for profit - and business profits are taxed - that is where write offs come in. In the US at least, the miners are Capital Equipment required for the business. In fact the IRS views them the same as any other computer or data server so they are write offs along with any import duties.

I think you're mixing VAT with normal income/profit taxes (I was probably not clear). When importing I have to pay 25% VAT + some small taxes. VAT is not possible to write off unless I have sales with VAT added. E.g, I have to pay $1000 import VAT for two miners. To write it off, I need to have sales to consumers for e.g. 4000 + 25% VAT ($1000).

If it was just normal income tax, I could write it off against the profit tax I have to pay.

NO company will do that because if caught they face heavy fines and/or are banned from importing to that country.

1. I am aware of the legality issue, it was just a question.
2. Most chinese companies selling to consumer do that yes, even without you asking them.
3. Registering as a company makes no difference since I won't have any taxable sales I can write it off against.

I wouldn't have a problem if the hardware was a safe long lasting product, with a definitive value, but who knows what the value of the purchase is. It's like paying VAT for the possible winning price of a lottery ticket, instead of the price of the ticket itself. But again, this is off topic. My question is what people's experience is.

Thanks a lot Smiley It makes sense now Smiley
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / What is the purpose of mini/usb miners? on: October 19, 2017, 12:06:18 PM
I don't understand the purpose of these mini-miners (USB dongles etc). The metals on the circuit boards are probably worth more than it's possible to mine, so profit is obviously not the purpose? What am I missing? Are people really putting these to work for $1 a year, and losses in electricity?
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Ordering from Bitmain, and value declaration. What's your experience? on: October 19, 2017, 11:46:26 AM
It says on their website that they will declare the actual invoice value when shipping. Is that something they just write, or is that something they actually do, without any exceptions?

Anyone have any luck getting their miners with a lower invoice value declared?

Import taxes and fees would add about 30% on the price for me, so it's a dealbreaker for me... :-/
13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: October 02, 2017, 01:48:14 PM
I'm considering starting mining for the first time and it looks like Antminer S9 is the way to go in that price range (other suggestions in $1000-$5000 range is welcome. $0.08 per kWh).

Is it safe to buy from Bitmain? If I pay for an order now, am I sure to get one from the november batch? Or am I risking that they suddenly are out of stock even after I pay?

I don't feel so good about paying so far in advance, with a currency that is charged immediately with no refund possibilities.

What do you think? Should I go for it?
