Within any regulated industry that offers complex products (e.g. airline industry, luxury goods, pharmaceuticals etc.), these products are comprised of thousands of different parts and therefore it is crucial to know the provenance of such parts. This is in order to assure that they have the right specifications and that they are not counterfeit. In addition, many of these parts are so-called “tracked items”. Not only their provenance, but the entire maintenance history of these parts needs to be transparent. Today, the participants in an asset’s lifecycle each have their own disparate systems for managing assets. Consequently, it’s quite difficult to establish and maintain a single version of the truth when looking at that asset’s entire lifecycle. Often, these records can be incomplete or still non-digitized, and communication between the different participants is often conducted on paper, through the email, or even verbally over the phone. Traceability and control are possible without the blockchain. However, three major benefits of the blockchain’s integration in supply chains are: 1. The data cannot be manipulated 2. The supply chain can secure traceability and control without all participants disclosing all their customers and suppliers to a central party. The level of privacy to enforce can be decided by the participants in the system 3. The blockchain creates trust in low cost IT solutions. You can use email, Word, mobile phones etc. and still be sure data is accurate. This allows for example rural farmers and independent truck drivers to integrate with the system. On the 26th of October, 2018 the Unibright Framework Demo was showcased at the blockchain meetup in Belgrade. The Demo will be released to the public as a public beta, in Q4 2018. You all then be able to design your own smart contract without a single line of code. In this blog post, we will elaborate on Unibright Framework’s demo, its functionalities, and benefits. As a user of the Unibright Framework first off you would need to log in. Straight away, the Workflow Designer which is the functionality allowing the user to choose a template will pop up. The Framework offers different templates that are meant for specific use-cases. Such use-cases can be invoice releasing, insurance claim processing, new hire for companies, and many more. During the demo, the focus is on the Multi-Party Approval template. For the full article: https://bit.ly/2ERadMX

Business process management (BPM) is concerned with the design, execution, monitoring, and improvement of business processes. Systems that support the validation and execution of processes have been used by companies to streamline and automate intra-organisational processes. Blockchain technology has the potential to change the environment in which inter-organisational processes are able to operate. Blockchains offer a way to execute processes in a trustworthy matter even in a network where there is no mutual trust between different nodes. Currently, there are several blockchains which have been adopted in various domains in order to facilitate the operation of new business processes. For example, application scenarios in the financial sector, logistics and supply chain processes, music distribution, and authenticity of items. A proposed use of blockchains in inter-organisational processes can be described as: large parts of the control flow and business logic of inter-organisational business processes can be compiled from process models into smart contracts which ensure the join process is correctly executed. Typical barriers that complicate the deployment of inter-organisational processes can be removed, if execution of such processes is done by using smart contracts on blockchains. The food supply chain is one of the most complex and fragmented of all supply chains. The production is found all over the world both on land and in water, making many producers and intermediaries difficult to identify and track. This brings uncertainty and risk to all stakeholders in the production chain. Lowering this uncertainty comes at a cost, and the outcome may still be unsatisfactory. Examples of problems that have been difficult or impossible to solve with current technologies include preventing fraud and counterfeiting. These issues can have serious domino-effects on public health and the environment, and reduce financial costs of unnecessary recalls of food products.
