Don't trust any exchange EVER! They can cut off access to your funds anytime.

you will see massive returns with cryptos if you invest well / get lucky.
you can also lose it all if you're not careful - keeping coins on exchanges for a long time, getting phished on your computer, etc.

the days of trading on poloniex are over - too many people have issues with it these days.

It is no longer no.1. 

Bittrex for sure.

Don't leave it on an exchange. You don't own your private keys on an exchange.
So if the exchange decides to keep your bitcoin gold, they can.

Transfer bitcoins out to a wallet you own like electrum.
