1  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The best way to turn BTC into USD on: May 26, 2013, 01:57:08 PM
I've used Dwolla and CampBX to buy BTC with USD twice now, and both times were excellent, quick, easy transactions.  I've not tried to get USD from BTC, but it would seem reasonable to expect these companies would be equally good doing that.
2  Economy / Trading Discussion / Second Great Transaction With Dwolla And CampBX on: May 25, 2013, 11:57:42 PM
Today I completed a successful, and easy, transaction to buy BTC with US Dollars via Dwolla and CampBX.

This is my second such transaction.  The first went equally well.

Hopefully this bodes well for the future of Americans exchanging fiat for BTC.

I get my happiness from a store in Colorado Smiley

Yeah.  Thank Odin for Colorado and Washington.  I need to move to one of them.

It's all human nature.  We'll never beat it because it defines us.
5  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ending bankruptcies, unemployment, and poverty on: May 24, 2013, 10:54:14 PM
No currency will change the fundamentals of the human condition.  There is no utopia to be found on this mortal plane.
6  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness on: May 24, 2013, 10:52:07 PM
I've made a little profit from BTC, but gained no life, liberty or happiness (yet).
7  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin and terrorists on: May 24, 2013, 10:50:14 PM
Terrorists seem to like to move money using Western Union.   Why have we not outlawed Western Union as it is clearly dangerous?   I understand that we are going to outlaw pressure cookers soon.

Western Union requires ID.  The biggest threat to TPTB from BTC is anonymity.  Eventually governments will start saying all anonymous currencies are terrorist tools and must be banned.  While they can't ban the currencies outright, they can make transfer from fiat almost impossible.

>implying that isn't already being done with fiat

No implications intended.  Just a prediction.
9  Other / Politics & Society / Re: WW3 Countdown: China Moves Against The Dollar on: May 24, 2013, 10:41:42 PM
Human nature guarantees endless violence.

The most important part of that video is the petrodollar.  Essentially nobody knows what this is, or how it dictates so much of domestic and international policy.  The petrodollar is the key to everything.

Liberty is doomed.
11  Other / Politics & Society / Bitcoin and terrorists on: May 24, 2013, 10:12:06 PM
We should all expect a "terror attack" with the villains supposedly funded by BTC.  The feds and media would have a field day with that.

Wait for it...
12  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is democracy even possible? on: May 24, 2013, 10:08:24 PM
What you're really asking is if the 'ideal' democratic republic is possible in human society.  The answer is 'no'.  We are, individually and collectively, driven primarily by human nature which has too many elements such as selfishness, greed, envy and others to allow for an ideal society to ever exist on Earth.
13  Economy / Economics / Re: Shorting Bitcoin now possible on: May 24, 2013, 10:00:23 PM
Even if it works as planned, the big issue is trust.  Once they have your BTC, will they give them back to you?  Offshore Forex firms are known to rip off customers because there's nothing they can do about it.  Same risk applies here.
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we going to see a HUGE jump in Bitcoin price? on: May 23, 2013, 06:31:54 PM
Completely unpredictable.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Recent Dwolla KYC Experience on: May 23, 2013, 05:31:57 PM
They put me to the same security test, but only when I tried to transfer money from Dwolla to CampBX.  I couldn't remember the correct answers, so I had to send them a pic of my drivers license.  I was verified within a couple days.

The one transaction I've done USD -> Dwolla -> CampBX -> Bitcoins -> My desktop wallet went incredibly well.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Anyone Used Silk Road? on: May 23, 2013, 02:50:58 PM
I read a story recently that Silk Road was collapsing, though I can't vouch for the source whom I've now forgotten.

Has anyone actually used them?  If so, please report how the experience was.
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I need to register as Money Transmiter to buy Bitcoins? on: May 18, 2013, 03:51:53 PM
You should probably consult a lawyer.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is CampBX a ripoff? on: May 18, 2013, 03:50:23 PM
Yesterday I had my first transaction with CampBX and it went fine.  Value was about $90 US, transferred from Dwolla.  Given how difficult every BTC transaction normally is, I was pleasantly surprised at how well this transaction went.
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: estimated time to get verified by mtgox? on: May 18, 2013, 03:24:57 PM
It took about 9-10 days for Mt Gox to verify me.
