erm, over 2 hours for a block - something must be wrong - everyone PANIC

[EDIT] joke

You should've seen the 10+hrs one a few weeks ago - people were praying for it to end! Smiley

I did Smiley

I'm new to litecoin mining.    I've signed up and configured my miner and its connected and working at around 100khs.

Is it normal to get 'pool request that work restart'   and stratum connection to pool 0 disrupted'  quite a lot??   Only got that now and then when Btc mining.

Thanks

I'm new also, I don't know why but I had a feeling to change the Intensity to 12 and I don't get that problem... scratch that as I write this my badass 4850 just got the interupt/restart but so far my 7850 hasn't...  but either way, got a combined 300+ khash off them.

thanks,    I went back to a basic cgminer config and and added things step by step.     My hash rate has dropped by 20 hashes but at least its a bit more stable, and not as many connection problems.

EDIT: i'd like to report it was driver issues causing my issues.   and a matter of finding the right intensity

I know you'll laugh - but I got into this for looking for something to do and I enjoy tweaking the settings.  Finding overclock setting that push out a few more hashes and the learning curve that its provided.  Ive not spent that much on hardware, but I have spent some and people have given me old cards so that I can play - but I've probably spent more money in electricity than I should.  Still enjoying it ,but i think when I've hit my Bitcoin target I'm moving to Litecoin.     I vowed I'd stay with Bitcoin as I felt that 1 new currency would be taken seriously, but now we have a silly amount of other currencies that make cyrpto currency a sorta joke(IMO), and because Bitcoin had been getting good media attention.

I cant afford the asics, hell i cant even afford a small time fpga.....wish i found bitcoin mining early on  :-(

Ive cracked it now.

Cleaned out drivers using ati tool and installed 12.10 and cgminer works flawlessly.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Problems with cgminer/guiminer on: May 27, 2013, 04:24:57 PM
I did have it working, but for some reason temperature and fan speed was not being reported.

So i uninstalled everything and done exactly what i did before, now cgminer/guiminer/bfgminer   wont even start!  lol

Back to reaper for me  :-(

EDIT:Now have bfgminer working with cgwatcher

Happy days  :-D

I've now got the 5670  working with cgminer.

I had to use the ati removal tool to completely remove all traces of drivers then download and install catalyst 12.8 drivers.

After reboot i had to then find the opencl setup and manually install it.

Now cgminer works, but get some errors and wondering if people could help?

Now there is no monitor attached and whats the issues with the adl?

Thanks

Where can i buy ASIC USB please?

Thanks.   I might reconsider my plan then.     But then...i live in scotland.    Not many hot days here  lol

Once i get my rig working and tuned i want to put it in my attic.   Now don't panic, my bedroom is in the attic and i get access to the rest via a hidden door.   It has plenty of ventilation.  What i'm wanting is to make a small part fireproof just in case something happens.

Am i being to cautious ?

Or can you suggest some materials that would suffice?

EDIT:  would this work? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/White-phenolic-resin-boards-A4-for-signs-clipboards-waterproof-fireproof-/290917040379?pt=UK_Crafts_Other_Crafts_EH&hash=item43bc01c0fb

I have bitcoin.qt installed and now have multibit installed.  How do i transfer my address from bitcoin.qt to multibit?

I'm only looking for a way to mine and keep power low.  Gpu mining seems to suck wattage!

So Asics are basically the equivalent to an ELE?     'Extinction Level Event' in the mining world?   So a hobbyist has no chance any more?

13  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Advise please on: May 25, 2013, 06:55:48 PM
Thanks for the reply and info.   Ive decided to ditch the board and get one with 2xpcie slots of fleabay.  One i'm looking at uses a sempron processor and a meaty heatsink and no fan!

Is it possible to create a fpga miner from this board?

Dev Bd DE0-NANO Fpga Cyclone Iv E - P0082

if so what else would i need?   Other chips, software?

Jusat one 5830 card at the moment.   Will add new cards each month.  It only has 1xpcie anyway.

I have BAMT installed now.

Just a question.  Riser cables.  I know they allow you to have the cards outside the system but would they convert normal pci connectors for use with more graphics cards?

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CGminer on: May 25, 2013, 08:30:48 AM

my gess is its that my card dont work well with cgminer.
or its really some strange HW problem.

Thats exactly what i thought when i got my card working with reaper and the mining proxy.  Not a hardware but software issue!

I have BAMT install in a rig waiting on a new card, so might try it in that and see if it works or not.

I was thinking it was maybe to do with 'long poll'  which reaper seems to do that the others dont?
17  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Advise please on: May 24, 2013, 10:26:22 AM
I'm currently GPU mining bitcoin in slush's pool.

Now i have a meaty ATI gpu coming and want to build a dedicated rig for it.

I have an old pc with the specs below:

3800xp
4gb ram
pcie (not sure of the speed)

Now i know its not gonna break the sound barrier but Bitcoin mining is (mostly) about the GPU?

So would it be ok.

Now as to operating system,  i've been looking at Bamt,  would that be a good operating system for it?

So what you think?   Scrap the idea and go back to the drawing board?
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is one 7850 at 78 degrees, but other two at 54 and 57? on: May 23, 2013, 07:35:39 AM
Not sure on your configuration,  are these cards Housed in something or in open air?

Its possible that the card in question is not able to remove the hot air away from the card, hence the higher temp.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Need help getting my 5970 rig to mine scrypt on: May 22, 2013, 08:38:53 PM
I would try other mining software.

There are loads to choose from.

Give others a go.   I would help you but the only one I've got working is reaper with my card.  So can only help with that one.
20  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Guiminer newbie problem on: May 22, 2013, 07:56:19 PM
Have you tried updating all your mobo drivers?

On my mining rig the dual core intel cpu was never worked until I updated all the drivers( not that i was planning to cpu mine)

I've gotten lazy in my old age and used a driver updater.

like this 'Smart Driver Updater'  (there are others about, most have 30 days free trial)

it finds and downloads all the latest drivers and installs them
