1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Website on blockchain on: July 12, 2017, 06:19:25 PM
Helllo!

I am a noob. Want to understand things. Is it possible to make a website which is somehow using blockchain and thus avoiding the DDOS?

What type of website? There are technologies like IPFS or Ethereum's Swarm file system that could certainly help mitigate DDOS by making the content p2p. So, you'd put the content into IPFS, and push a link in a transaction in the blockchain- and that link could never die, and without DDOSing every single node in IPFS (or Ethereum) that content would be available- potentially even off the internet in a LAN environment.

But that does come with restrictions- it's immutable once added to the filesystem- it would require basically a new commit to IPFS and new link each time you updated it. The biggest issue you'd hit is if you wanted it to be a HTTP protocol accessible website, you'd need to create an 'Oracle'- a service that would go find the latest IPFS link and display that as a website. Said Oracle would be very susceptible to a DDOS attack- so it becomes a single point of failure. This is changing, there is work still ongoing but the holy grail of a DDOS proof endpoint that's easy to access isn't quite there yet.
2  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] KNCMiner Neptune 1st Public Batch PreOrder on: January 02, 2014, 02:14:07 AM
Given BTC price is marching back up, I'll put a fiat number on it- equiv of $22k for 1- not both. I could just let it come in and mine and get 150% ROI minimum, or I can sell it to someone who didn't get in early, and they can instead- hence why this is a 'anyone interested?'. Based on todays pricing at Bitstamp (because MtGox is b*ll*cks- you can't get your money out, so the prices are artificially inflated), 29.33 BTC.

Also worth pointing out the invoice doesn't include the VAT (20%) we have paid on it as well. God love sales taxes- hence the $22k.

Given the 3 TH/s is also up for debate with KNC- they're pitching for it to have the same relative punch as the Batch #1 of the Jupiters, and they are actually saying Q1/Q2 2014 and given KNCs previous reliability on timelines- the only ASIC manufacturer who is a lying overselling bunch of a-holes, I'm inclined to believe in them getting this in for March/April- hence why I want to keep 1.

Feel free to make counter offers as well.

Hi

Gauging interest in a KNCMiner Neptune shipping in the 1st Public Batch (order no: 14909)- one of several. Happy to talk BTC or direct bank transfer. Based in the UK.

Offers above 30 BTC considered.

I love a good scam, so I went fishing- they reckon they can ship it anywhere in the world by the 15th July 2013. That they will be shipping 100 units as part of their 'beta', and (and this bit killed me):

"Our ASIC+ Cryonic Architecture is manufactured by third-party OEM's based on our specifications. Additional details as to their capabilities and features will be announced during the live-demo event in San Francisco later this month. More information will be provided as to the event on our website. "

Also- no info on their executive board history on their site, and they utterly avoided it when directly asked. If you're going to scam, at least make it look convincing. It's looks like the Weighted Storage Cube from Portal FFS. I suspect the Cake Is a Lie, but certainly one to watch.

Yeah- those two cards are a bitch- BIOS locked, cannot reflash the shaders- and they refuse to go any higher with any degree of stability :/

Sucks, but given £ per Hash- it's actually better than the more powerful, so I'm a bit philosophical about it.

Might try running them through Reaper- only issue with that is I've set up quite a bit of automation around the CGMiner APIs to restart them when Hash rates drop/get sick/just need their daily reboot.

Bank, Credit, misplaced trust- these are all the opposite of what BitCoin is about.

+1 to everyone else calling BS- pretty sure even your Paper backups can be stolen- it's called a Bank Robbery- happens every day, put enough asset in one place (such as a bank vault), it's going to become pretty tempting to go fetch.

Disperse, displace, distribute and encrypted- security through being a moving target, not by putting it in a vault.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Price on: May 20, 2013, 12:44:45 PM
Question is whether mining LTC is the best use of your resources. I've found going to Merged Mining (have a look at bitminter.com for example), has led to more consistent and better yields beyond the single moment market snapshots. I was converting any LTC I had anyway to BTC- and this reduces the amount of trades needed- increased the stability of the miners when you push them hard to maximise Hash Rate, and ultimately- is a safer bet.

Since I'm in n00b locker, thought I'd run down what I've got (just for lulz).

Ok- 4 miners up and running in a nice aircon'd comms room- and I don't pay for the power, so all good.

SERVER 1:

Intel Core i7 920
12 GB RAM
2 x XFX HD6950
1050 watt Corsair PSU
Hash Rate: 750 Mh/s
Notes: My old desktop repurposed.

Server 2:

Intel Core 2 Duo Quad Core Q6600 (that old)
8 GB RAM
2 x HD 7950 Black Editions
1050 watt Corsair PSU
Hash Rate: 1156 MH/s
First experiment with tweaking the OC on these- and these OC well. Hash rate is above average for a HD 7950- and I've got 5 of these Black Editions, and they rock.

Server 3:

Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz
8 GB RAM
64 GB SSD
1050 w Corsair PSU
1 x XFX HD 7970
1 x XFX HD 7950 Black Edition
Hash Rate: 1266 MH/s - took a bit of work to get optimal hash rate out of the 7970- now hitting 707 Mh/s, avg temp 66.0 c

Server 4:
Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz
8 GB RAM
64 GB SSD
1000 w PSU + 750 w Corsair PSU (had to take an angle grinder to the case with a Dremel, and a lot of work- but it's amazing cool running temp, and doesn't look like a bag of crap when in the rack)
1 x HD 6950
2 x HD 7970
Hash rate: 1479 MH/s
God love PCI-E Riser cables

That's my little pool- working on some more experimental stuff coming in the next few weeks. Clocked up good earnings so far- especially as most of the cards are reconditioned (and therefore were a steal).
