I looked at the blockchain and the BTC I sent cleared, but I haven't been issued any BTC IOUs.  There is over 100 confirmations: https://blockchain.info/tx/faeadf4d05692426ac52ba276143603c5339d61edc018d8e76f31f5b88a2e648

I like the concept! The problem I see is lag time because some of those projects can take 6 months to fulfill, and BTC may have doubled during that time! hmmmm

Ripple is one part protocol (method of exchanging any currency worldwide with very little remittance). 
And one part currency (Which should add liquidity to the protocol.)

I think it will have little or no value to the average Joe, but it give the banks/market makers liquidity.
