1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Computer lagging when mining after driver update on: February 27, 2014, 12:56:39 PM
Hi there

I assume this is the forum to post in? The general support forum said not to post altcoin support questions, so I assume this is it.

Anyway...

I updated to the new mantle drivers (14.2 beta 1.3 to be specific) but have since then been experiencing insane lags when mining - even if just mining on the second GPU which isn't used for windows.

The lag is the kind of lag you get if you turn up your intensity to the top, the mouse will start acting slow and start lagging, moving from one point to another in 5 seconds instead of a split second.

I've tried doing a driver uninstall and tried the latest stable version as well as my old driver which it worked with (amd_catalyst_13.11_betav9.5), but without luck..

Any ideas?

My base mining setup:
Code:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://us3.wemineltc.com:3334 -u Maldark.x -p x -T --gpu-reorder -I 14,20 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 32765 --gpu-powertune 20 --gpu-engine 947,947 --gpu-memclock 1250,1250
^ I used to be able to do this while just browsing the interwebs, watching streams etc.

My "2nd gpu mining alone" setup:
Code:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://hot.wemineltc.com:3333 -u Maldark.x -p x -T --gpu-reorder -d 1 -I 20 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 32765 --gpu-powertune 50 --gpu-engine 947,1050 --gpu-memclock 1250,1500
^ I used to use this while running games etc

I cannot run either, even though the 2nd one only uses the 2nd card (hence the -d 1 (d for device))

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

EDIT: Also I'm maintaining roughly the same kh/s on the 2nd gpu, but going from what used to be 600-840(depending on the settings) to max 15 kh/s on my main / 1st gpu.

Solution: Installing the driver enabled crossfire per default...... surprise ...
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ltc][cgminer] R9 290 + 7950 working together on: December 02, 2013, 03:47:55 PM
Hi there

I re-formatted my computer and also added my 7950 to the rig, but i've run into a bit of trouble.

My settings before were these:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum2.wemineltc.com:3333 -u Maldark.Desktop -p x --lookup-gap 2 -I 14 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 32765 --gpu-powertune 20 --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-memclock 1500

But I can't seem to get it running now. Even if just launching cgminer (through CMD via cgminer.exe --scrypt and then manually entering the address etc), it does nothing. It remains black - even after it has generated the .bin files. I can, however, see that the GPU temps are slowly rising, and I was able to get an astonishing 56 kH/s (based on www.wemineltc.com's "Your current hashrate").

What am I missing?

Also I'm thinking about running this:

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum2.wemineltc.com:3333 -u Maldark.Desktop -p x --lookup-gap 2,2 -I 14,19 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 32765,24000 --gpu-powertune 20,20 --gpu-engine 1000,1120 --gpu-memclock 1500,1225

But haven't been able to test or anything Smiley

Thanks

Perfectly possible.

I used to run a 5870, 6970, 7850 and 7950 all in one machine.

Perfect, just what I needed to know, thanks Smiley

EDIT: On a side note, what setup would be best for my air flow / heat management?

Im thinking the following, if I plug one of my 7950's into a x1 -> x16 riser - this shouldn't affect mining afaik?

*huge mother fucker pic*

That'll work just fine.

Alright thanks, do you agree on how I set them up? With as much space in between as possible

Hi there

I currently have 2x 7950's that I use for gaming as well as mining. I would, however, like to buy a new R9 290x when it comes with a custom cooler to use this as the primary card. That means that I will occasionally mine with it (whenever im not using the computer) and then leave the 2x 7950's mining 24/7. Is this possible? Using different GPU's in the same computer?

Kind regards

Thank you all for your replies, I am thinking of going with either the Corsair CX750M or the "XFX ProSeries P1-750X-XXB9", both have a good reputation and are both 750Watt power supplies

Hi there

I'm not quite sure if this is where the thread is supposed to be posted, but it's the only section that seemed right.

How big a power supply would it take to use 2x Gigabyte 7950 WF3?

From what I can read I wouldn't need much more than 500-600watt?

The Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum doesn't matter as I've got free power.

Thank you for your time : )

600W or more.  And it needs to be a high quality power supply, those generic 600W units will pop in months under a heavy load.  Power supply efficiency does not matter as much to you as others (because the free power) but better supplies make less heat.  In the summer that could be important allowing you to run more units.

Thank you for your time : )

Got any specific in mind that you could recommend around the 600-700 range?

Also, if they do pop and they are under warranty, that shouldn't be much of a problem then right? Besides the obvious downtime

hello Smiley
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Profitability on: June 11, 2013, 10:40:07 AM
Hi there

I was wondering whether or not I was actually making any profit, or if I even was making any in the first place so I bought a watt meter.

Profitability table: https://i.imgur.com/Ej3VR2W.png

as you can see I pay $0.27 / kWh, I hash about 1,2 mh/s and according to the watt meter i'm pulling 780 watt from the socket.

Anyway, is there anything I've missed or is it simply not profitable for me to mine with my 2x 7950's?

Kind regards

The machines have a minimum 2month+ pre-order wait on them.  The ones that are currently shipping were ordered a year ago, I am still waiting for my two.  It is totally impossible to assume how much the difficulty will change by the time which you receive an ordered ASIC.

That's quite a wait Sad

How long ago did you order?

Maldark, keep in mind that as more and more machines start mining the difficulty will keep going up, and the 5 GH/s will give you less and less bitcoins.

How fast will this happen?

If I got the machine tomorrow, how many days would you think it'd take?

I'm just looking for a rough estimate Smiley

Kind regards

I can see that the video where I got the 0.25 - 0.3 numbers from is a month old, what do you think 5 GH/s gives nowadays?

Hi there

I'm new to both Bitcoin, Bit mining and BitMinter.

Anyway, I've been going steady for a few days, and my desktop pulls off about 125 Mhps with its GTX 680. My laptop only pulls 60 Mhps with its GTX 580. Anyway, i've been looking at it, and a Butterfly Labs " 5 GH/s Bitcoin Miner - BitForce 5 GH/s SC" should pull 5GH/s which should amount to about 0,25 - 0,3 BTC per day. A BTC is worth about $122 whereas the ASIC costs $274. This would mean, that in about 8 days that would be a total profit / loss of 0. Is my math way off or am I missing something else completely? Sounds too good to be true does it not?

Kind regards

Maldark
