1  Economy / Service Discussion / BOA to Bitstamp international transfer problem on: March 08, 2014, 12:34:31 AM
Hey guys,

I'm trying to wire money from BOA in the US to Bitstamp, but when I enter the details from the Bitstamp site to add the recipient, it says the city and postal code is wrong. I entered "Reading, Berkshire" under city and "RG7 8NN" as the postal code according to https://www.bitstamp.net/article/new-banking-details/

Any help is appreciated!

If he can't even get the basics right, how can his opinions hold any merit at all?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / JP Morgan Bitcoin trading platform? on: August 06, 2013, 12:47:10 AM
So.....

I have this friend who is working in one of the biggest wealth funds in the world and he told me that they circulated an internal research paper on Bitcoin. Apparently, JP asked big funds and financial institutions if they would be interested in trading Bitcoins if JP created a trading platform. I'm under the impression that many of them said no, and I doubt that JP would actually go ahead with making this trading platform because there wouldn't be enough revenue from a $1bn otc market.

Anyone know anything more about this?
5  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How much has mtgox made and how much does their exchange cost? on: August 03, 2013, 05:27:41 AM
Well according to http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/currency/USD.html

Their total volume transacted is about 90 mil usd.

On the top end,
90M * 0.6% = 540,000

Since they take a fee on both sides,

540,000 * 2 = 1.08M

Where did you guys get your numbers?

And when I say making money, I mean covered their fixed and variable cost!
6  Economy / Service Discussion / How much has mtgox made and how much does their exchange cost? on: August 02, 2013, 05:42:46 PM
Sorry if this has been posted about somewhere else before. But I couldn't seem to find it. I have two main questions

1) How much has mtgox made up to date?
2) How much did it cost to set up mtgox?

I'm just trying to figure out if gox has been making money, and if so, how much?

I consider them being based in Russia a bonus - no way the US are gonna try and raid/steal/shut them down. In fact, the way the DHS, CIA, FEDS etc, etc are running around it's probably the safest place there is. That & China..... Grin

Thats true.... So I guess the best way is to just diversify, no?

My future business partner had a chat with Singapore Economic Development Board yesterday about Bitcoin.
 Wink

About? And what did they say? Is EDB even the right government body to look at bitcoins?

Forgot to add that I think that you need to (and probably already are) pay close attention to MAS regulations. Just make sure you're inline with all their regulations etc and you should be fine!

Sometimes i wonder why am i even doing this

Again, a thank you from me too for doing this.

I guess it will be slow during the coming months ("summer" etc...) Hopefully things will pick up later this year. What we really would need here is places actually accepting BTC for purchases. So far my guess is that the majority of buyers in SG are hoarders, in for the gamble.

Agree

Double agreed. Singaporeans might not be that into bitcoins right now but you never know what the future holds. If you believe in how disruptive bitcoins are for the financial payment scene, like many of us do, I'd say you're poised in a great position for and if bitcoins become more mainstream. Don't lose hope!

Also, shall pm you regarding something else.
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox vs BTCe vs CAMP BX vs ........... on: June 05, 2013, 12:46:40 AM
I use Gox, CampBx and Bitstamp.

As for BTCe, I'll acknowledge that they seem to be trustworthy based on their history, but I still wouldn't touch them.

Any particular reason for staying away from BTCe? Can't be just because their interface looks bad right? haha
13  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Singapore on: June 05, 2013, 12:45:29 AM
Just sold all my gpu's in Singapore ... now I am gpu-less. Mining has ceased, my office is cooler, and powerbills are down lah Smiley

Just waiting for ASIC's to arrive now ... one day.

Ya asic, waiting too... OK will try FYB

Where did you guys order your ASICs from? Power in sg damn ex leh compared to the US. like 25us cents per kw/hr as opposed to US around 15cents I think.

Also, any idea who is behind the Singapore exchange?

And I think people in SG are pretty tech savvy but we really have a very small emphasis on computer science in our unis. That's also why we're not able to get start-ups off the ground even though PAP keeps giving grants and has such a big emphasis on entrepreneurship. I think. Thoughts?

So I've traded on all these 3 platforms and realized that each of them have their own pros and cons. What do you guys use and why? Would you say they are all pretty secure? I'd like to see what everyone things about each of these exchanges as well as any others out there that might be worth mentioning.

MtGox
Pros:
High liquidity
Cons:
Dwolla funding removed
0.6% fee

BTCe
Pros:
LTC/BTC
Decent liquidity?
0.2% fee
Cons:
Hard to fund

CampBX
Pros:
Great interface
Ability to buy on margin
Easy to fund with Dwolla
Cons:
High fee of 0.55% forever (instead of 0.6% after using affiliate link, use mine if you need to! -->  https://CampBX.com/register.php?r=U9PihXL6BPI)

What do you guys think? Which exchanges have been easy to fund, which do you usually use, etc...

20  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long before a transaction with no fees go through? on: May 26, 2013, 04:17:43 PM
Ahhhhhh. I see.

Is the block choosing process automatic or manual?

Many miners and pools use Bitcoin-Qt (or bitcoind) to create the blocks.  In that case it is automatic.  It is possible to write your own program for building blocks (which some pools have done).  If you use a custom program for building blocks, then you can control what criteria are used for selecting the transactions.

Thanks! Appreciate it!
