2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin Core upgrade to HD question on: December 18, 2020, 04:43:47 PM
Hi there,

I'm considering upgrading my wallet to HD by using the -upgradewallet flag but would like to know how this affects existing private keys.

1) Would the existing keys be kept as they are but any additional transactions after the upgrade are placed into the new HD set.

or

2) Would holdings in the non-HD set be moved into the new HD set by the upgrade process?

I'm asking as I would like to extract the existing keys to claim a load of forked coins but for safety don't want to place those private keys into extractor tools until I'm sure my original BTC holdings are safe.

I'm aware I could just send the coins to new addresses manually but to avoid spending if unnecessarily wondered if the HD wallet upgrade is enough.

Thanks in advance for your time!

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ripple Wallet says bitcoin users can claim free ripples but is that offer over? on: June 16, 2013, 06:42:06 PM
Hi forum buddies,

I  joined this forum originally because the Ripple web client has a big Bitcoin icon saying that BC users can get free ripples from a topic on the bitcointalk forum . After a lot of work to get out of the newbie jail ;-), I was finally able to post my address:

rwyavmQHymtkiUaPc2nRnEiA1CzQwqnJz9

Weeks later, nothing, nada, zilch

I guess the offer expired but why do they continue to show this so prominently in the client if it is too late?

Despite all that, I'm glad I joined this forum. Good luck all bitcoiners, ripplers and other altcoiners  Cheesy

Some of the biggies might be from the Winklevoss twins (dudes that sued Facebook founder) as they claim to own 1% of all BCs

Be aware of Ripple too. Ignore their own description of what they do and look at this more balanced review:

Seems it might turn out to be complimentary to BC.

Appreciate that newbies need to pass the tests but the 5 post limit does mean that they are posting purely to make up their 5 and are not necessarily helping to signal to noise ratio

The ripple client took me here and suggested I reply to a different thread to obtain free ripples. Before I do that, I need to get through the newbie stage
