1  Other / Beginners & Help / New Miner, should I go ASIC on: June 04, 2013, 03:05:17 PM
ive known about bitcoin for a while but up until lately treated it as a hobby on the backburner running cpu mining on a old pc
ive just recently heard about ASICs and have more money than sense for now if i could get in on it ASAP(not on pre order)

what hardware can i get in hand now? i realize being late to the party means a higher barrier of entry so what if im willing to put in $5000-$10000 USD into it? (that said, if $15000 made the a significant difference i might be convinced to go that high)
or have i completely missed the boat and even a high buy-in wont help?

on a side note Arvicco has a Batch 1 Avalon which aparently is capable of 71,000 MHash/s w/ Power consumption around 660Wt
currently its at 280BTC
should i bid on it, and start with that? its one of the few auctions i can see for actual hardware that people have

do you happen to know the approximate shipping dimensions and weight?

so is there a general consensus that current ASIC hardware cant possibly get ROI with the upcoming wave or ASIC machines to the masses?

i use bitcoin-qt, it seems the most common i figure theres a reason for that
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It's stupid that newbies must make 5 posts and browse for 4 hours. Here's why on: June 03, 2013, 02:00:07 PM
while I do think the five post count contributes to spam and I don't really like it because most of the posts are only there to get the post Count higher
at least it keeps the spam in one place, the newbie forum

Is there a point to switching to a new coin system?
I realize the difficulty will become crazy once ASIC machines are common
Presumably though doesn't that mean people will build even better ASIC machines

I only ask because people outside of bitcoin still question the legitimacy of it, it's hard enough to push one digital currency let alone several if people ever want this to become mainstream
Also could of these ASIC machines and such be adapted to work on the new systems? at that point the hardware development (the hard part) is done and it's just down the software that runs on them

or am I missing something completely?
