I represent a small computer repair business and we have decided to open a side venture to help cancer patients.  What makes this venture different is that we plan to accept bitcoin as well as other gifts to help provide assistance to current and recent cancer sufferers.  We had an employee that went through chemo and had stage 3 cancer when he told me about what he and his family went through it really hit me.  I'll give a little information so you can understand what we've decided to do.  While he's no longer with the company his story has really touched us so here is the "clipping":

He had been working at a factory for over 12 years then it closed due to the recent economic downturn.  He then decided to go back to college in order to make himself more employable.  While he was attending college he found out that he had cancer.  While going over all of the treatment options his oncologist introduced them to an "aid" person that helped them sign up for various programs that should have helped them pay for the massive medical bills that are common for cancer patients.  Needless to say because his wife was working and made a little over 40k/yr they weren't eligible for assistance.  Their insurance covered a lot of their costs though but it didn't help them when it came to covering their bills at home because he was unable to work.  They decided to request a temporary stop on their student loans and mortgage while he was going through chemo and various procedures he had to go through.  While the student loan people were generous their mortgage people were rude and unwilling to help them.  There was something said about how cancer was a long term issue and didn't qualify for any sort of payment assistance.  I'm not sure of the exact nature of the response.  It has been a couple years since I last saw him and heard his story but I've always wanted to do something to help people ever since he told me about everything that went on during his treatment.  Relay for life, the American cancer society, etc.  None of them seemed to really fit.  I asked my boss about what we could do and he was like myself... at a loss so we continued to brainstorm about what we could do.

Fast forward to the past three or so months.  A couple programmer friends and a professor told me about bitcoin after a lengthy discussion about how powerful and efficient GPU's are at password cracking.  It was a very disturbing conversation and one that I wish I had never heard.  But that's neither here nor there.  One of them mentioned token generation/bitcoin and I became very interested.  Over the past few weeks I've been reading the forums and learning about bitcoin and the awesome potential and community that is growing every day.  After some digging and more research I had an eureka moment.  I could support the bitcoin community and also help cancer patients.  After sitting down with the owner we decided to open a website that would take bitcoin gifts as well as sell bitcoin related support equipment such as custom clothing etc.  We also thought it would be a decent idea to offer computer hardware at a discount for people that purchase the gear via bitcoin.  The proceeds will go towards helping people like our former friend and co-worker that were facing foreclosure etc. as a result of having to fight with cancer.

So my boss congratulated me and said, "This is your puppy and I'll help you any way I can.  But it's up to you to make it work."  So with that in mind I decided to post here and get some feedback as well as see if anyone would like to assist me in getting the site up and running.  My boss already bought the domain name and I've applied to bitpay.  Anyhow I'd like to know what you folks think about it and if anyone would want to help then feel free to send me a P.M.

We've got the first stages of the website up and running.  Feel free to let us know what you think or help us get started. you can check it out at:

What ever happened to 3dfx anyhow?  Didn't they get absorbed by a larger company somewhere along the way?

yea nVidia bought them out.  I've still got my Voodoo 3500 and it still does a decent job at video capture.  Been thinking of posting it on Ebay or the like to see if anyone would want to have a piece of history.  I'm somewhat of a hoarder though and have the voodoo and a 1GHz Slot A athlon hooked up.  Just don't use them anymore. *sigh*

I should have responded to the whole payment suggestion thread as well.  Here is my take on it.  While those of you that suggest a payment/gift methodology to help reduce spammers etc it also prevents individuals such as myself that are looking to get into bitcoin mining.  If you're new it will take a while to get to the point where you can actually spend a fraction of a BC to donate.  If I had a mining setup already running then it may not be an issue.  Yea I know late to the party as usual.  Well at least I'm trying to attend Cheesy

I'm not opposed to the whole 5 post limitation.  It makes sense that you'd want people that are going to be active on the forum.  The other side of that is like many of you have mentioned.  You'll get quite a few single garbage posts.  The 4 hour limitation is more of an issue imho... but then again it does force new people to browse through the forums a bit and possibly learn the answers to some of the questions that they might have.

I work for a small computer business and we are considering offering various custom computer systems/components in exchange for BC/LC.

I've been reading about cryptocurrency mining for a while now and it seems that for ppl like me that are just getting into the game you've got to spend a lot in order to get a decent mining rig/farm going or you've got to buy the coins.  The problem is where to buy them at though.  BTCe and MT are both loved/hated depending on who is replying to you.  I'd love to buy a few coins as well but finding a place to do so is a real pain in the backside.

It would be nice to have a place that lists and ranks the various exchanges for people so that we can view other peoples reviews and make up our minds accordingly.  Yes there is a margin of error because you have the company folks that try to boost their reviews and you've got the goobers that get their kicks out of posting lies and deceptions.  I'd love to be able to get the views of a few hundred folks that have used the service previously.  It would greatly help in making up your mind.
