That's worth a try, because it would be similar to your working setup with card 1 directly on mobo.  Smiley
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 18 R9 280 rig. Help! on: February 24, 2014, 02:50:11 AM
Hey,

I am planning to make 3 mining rigs. With the following config:

Mobo: Asrock H81 Pro BTC
Gpu: 6xR9 280 (per rig) i.e. 18-R9 280
PSU: Corsair
Ram: Corsair
HDD: WD

Firstly, please tell me if the following config will be good enough or not.
Secondly, how will all these three rigs mine together. As in will using the same configs and details of my pool on all the three rigs will do the thing or is there something else that needs to be done.
Thirdly, I need a minimum monthly income of $1000 and plan to mine DogeCoin, will that be a good choice or not?  If No, then please do suggest me a good AltCoin.

Also, i am expecting the cumulative hashrate to be around 12,000 Khash/s. Am i right?

Thanks

You could expect 13,000-13,500 Khash/s when all settings are optimal. (Linux)

It will be a pain in the ass to get 6 cards running on Asrock H81 Pro BTC boards. 2x Corsair 1000W should be fine for 6 cards. For 5 cards, use 1x 1000W and 1x 750W. Saves you little money and a lot easier to setup.

Good luck!

Try using powered riser on 2 cards.

Do you got a psu with single 12V rail?

You'll get them when KnC is done mining with them?

That 40% increase of hashing in 2 days awhile ago smells like Neptunes powering on  Roll Eyes

I read about fried Asrock Pro BTC boards when people used them with powered risers but also heard claims that without powered risers only 2-3 cards would work.

I'm planning on building a rig with an Asrock Pro BTC mobo in mind with 5 cards, but with 2-3 types of video cards, with different power consumptions. So what would be the safest route to take?

Always use powered risers and if you don't understand what I just wrote, let me put it a different way..............................

ALWAYS FREAKING USE POWERED RISERS!

There!

Get it?

Got it?

Good!

My $.02.

Wink

hmmmm........and for what reason?

I got a rig running without power (Molex) to the motherboard (Asrock H81 pro BTC) without powered risers with 5 R9 280X. Roll Eyes

@pontiacg5
You got the sexiest rig I've seen so far! Awesome work dude!
7  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Help, ASRock H81 Pro BTC with more than 2 GPUs on: February 20, 2014, 01:37:45 AM
I have several rigs using this board and I can tell that every board behaves different.
After installing my first rig using 5 R9 280X, 1 Corsair 1000W and 1 750W psu, I assumed that I could easily finish the rest because they're identical.
But unfortunately not.
First rig with normal setup with power to the board. Second rig needed power from both psu, each psu to the board.
Third won't work unless there is no molex to the board!
4 rigs up and running each setup different and now I am facing some different issue on no.5 and still can't resolve it. Nothing seems logical.

So in short, it is a pain in the ass to get it all working with this motherboard. I suspect the motherboard is to blame.
I never had this problem when I used Gigabyte motherboard, but they are more than twice as expensive.
But don't buy Gigabyte because they won't work with BAMT. There is a solution, but that's another story.

Try different setups using different pci-e ports, try using 1 molex to the board, try none, etc. Some combinations just won't work.
Which psu do you got? Is it a single rail? Go through everything and try some crazy illogical stuff too.
You should be able to plug 4 R9 270X on your psu with undervoltage. 3 cards should be under 900W.

Good luck!
