1  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BitcoinWisdom.com - Live Bitcoin/LiteCoin Charts on: August 22, 2014, 07:51:45 AM
Feature Request:

Please add a feature where you can have primary exchange (with the orderbook to the right) but add 'secondary' exchange lines to your graph so you are tracking the price increase/decreases for all selected markets at the same time. (Obviously use xe.com or google exchange rates to get the USD values for those lines). This would be a great feature as you can see which markets are moving at a glance all on the same axis as other markets.

Goxtool client has been updated to support the pubnub feed from mtgox (which is unaffected by this outage). Google goxtool and get the latest update.

4  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox Support is Horrible. Stay away from Mtgox. on: December 11, 2013, 01:54:09 PM
They are activley expanding their support teams.

Source?

I get that it takes time to hire / train staff, but they should have been hiring extra for some time. They have demonstrated that they understand the importance of hardware redundancy in keeping their site online and their trading engine running - their support system is just as important. If it's constantly running at capacity then something has gone wrong.

Private conversation with one of their support managers.

how does their AML verification work ?
how can they tell the difernce between   coins generated by a miner or some guy selling weed on silk road ?

No idea - I dont know the ins and outs of that process.

It recently took me 11 days to get a response from their support. On the plus side, once they got back to me they were more than helpful and sorted my request with no issues.

It seems to me like they desperately need to hire more support staff. Their biggest problem has always been communication - literally all they would have to do to reassure the vast majority of people is have enough staff to answer support tickets within a few hours and send out weekly updates on issues like withdrawal times etc.

Oh, and when they do issue updates, they need to send it by email to every customer, not just post it on the website / fucking facebook page for people to check every day.

You're right on all accounts. They are activley expanding their support teams (They currently have 20 people working full time on AML verifications).

You might have noticed that their last update was via email to all customers so I think our voice has been heard on that one.  Smiley

6  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox . . . Warning about MtGox . . . TAKE THE NEW POLL!! on: December 11, 2013, 01:00:01 PM
Their support team is inundated with support tickets right now (as is their AML Team). They've recruited many more staff to try to help reduce the load (but staff training isnt instant!). Multiple ticket submissions won't help and just slows down the process.

If you have a super urgent ticket, you could try their support channel #mtgox on freenode. There is usually a support member in there during JPY and EU hours.

(Also all NEW accounts require verifications to Deposit and withdraw. Existing non-verified accounts can do both as long as they've not been flagged by their AML security checks)

I was informed that they are forbidden to provide information about why my money is being held for 3 months or when will the money be released.  Angry

Got a screenshot of that?
9  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox account hacked and emptied by huge mining fee on: October 20, 2013, 10:49:21 AM
sounds like they went trough the API this would allow them to mess up the transaction fees.. the only transaction fee you can choose is a tick box of 0.005 so its either a server exploit of API exploit both of which could or couldnt be your friends fault but should be serious concern to mtgox..

This - website does not allow you to change the amount of the trading fee. You've had your key and secret stolen somehow from your local machine. 2FA will not help in this instance unfortunatley.

Who actually believe the issues with USD withdrawals are really due to technical issued with their banking partners?  I think it is obvious that they are operating a fractional reserve and do not have close to enough funds if everyone wanted to pull out their fiat.  A real-life exchange or investment bank is required to put customer funds in segregated accounts, but this is not the case with Mt. Gox.

Honestly, the issue is they do not have the cash and these capital controls are meant to prevent a "run on the bank" which would sink Mt. Gox.  They are using customer deposits to pay ongoing legal, regulatory and operational expenses.  Considering they missing over 5M being held by the US Government and need to keep a substanial reserve for possible legal settlements, things will not get better anytime soon.  It is not conforting they are lying about the real reason (it probably criminal), but I see why they are doing it.  They are hoping to "earn" themselves out of this hole and hoping for a settlement in the near term with the US Gov for the frozen customer funds as well as Coinlabs for the Mt. Gox customer funds they are withholding and legal settlements.

Mt. Gox USD is trading at a substanial discount to real USD, hence the "inflated" value of BTC on the exchange as it is the only way to get funds out of Mt. Gox.  This is going to end badly and it is dangerous to try to time this.  Once Mt. Gox goes bust, there will be lots of missing customer funds, and after a long legal and complicated liquidation process, depositers will get back pennies on the dollar.

Lots of massive assumptions here. What you need to understand that if it was a technical issue with a bank, they can't exactly go out on the market and say "hey, who will be our bank" to anyone. Banks don't like bitcoin and those that are willing to host a new bank account for any exchange are likley to ask a lot of questions and also not rush about it. Afaik, Gox are not even close to bankrupt, (far from it).....but anyway, back on topic....

For legal reasons they might want to keep tight but the normal thing to do would be to issue a press statement to their pledge or something.

I think you hit the nail on the head there.

Is it reasonable to demand some degree of honesty and openness? I think so.

Absolutley, i actually don't know anymore than you guys and I've had a long hard think about things and come to my personal thoughts:

  • No mention of the court case - commenting on it is probably not advisable until its all over just in case anything is used negatively in the case?
  • Withdrawl issues - Whilst i know they're actively seeking more banking partners to alleviate the problem, the last thing you would do is go around shouting about their current partners as that would only annoy them / cause them to cease operations completely but also potentially annoy new prospective partners. I guess we live in a banks world and they really hold the keys Sad

I actually have a very large sum of money in gox right now and I'm really not worried about it. If i actually needed it right now.... i'd be quite miffed as im sure many of you are.

15  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Has any one had issues withdrawing bitcoins from mt gox ? on: June 21, 2013, 02:56:18 PM
There was an issue with a malformed transaction that had to be fixed that halted the processing client. This resulted in delays of withdrawls appearing the blockchain. I believe its all fixed and working fine now though.
