1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: which 7950 GPU is a better option for Mining? on: September 10, 2013, 04:38:06 AM
Get the cheapest one you can find. These days, it's not likely you'll recover your investment. Might as well limit your losses.

Very nice work. thanks for the effort.
3  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Looking to spend 3K on hardware. on: August 21, 2013, 04:47:01 AM
You come to the mining game too late. You won't make it as a home miner. Get some Asicminer shares and enjoy the dividends (for now).
4  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: GPU is DEAD --- ASIC is taking over and Fast. on: August 17, 2013, 05:37:15 AM
GPU mining is only dead for Bitcoins. There are other coins out there folks.  Grin
5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitinstant replacement? on: August 14, 2013, 05:36:39 AM
I always used bitinstant because I could do a moneygram deposit instantly and get bitcoins in minutes. Is there any service out there that is this fast? I would prefer not to go to a bank, but don't really matter to me.

Coinbase.com is instant as long as you are verified which is very easy..Also there is btcquick.com which is also easy as pie.

No mater how hard I try I can'not get my ID verified on Coinbase. I give them all the personal info they ask for.

8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the best wallet to use for bitcoins? on: August 13, 2013, 04:29:05 AM
Use multiple  online wallets for frequent transactions. Never keep all your coins in one basket. Use paper wallets for long term coin storage.
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Losing money is fun!!! on: August 13, 2013, 04:16:30 AM
Finding a place where you can run your gpu rig with free electricity (at work, dorm) is about the only option that makes roi sense these days.
10  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [Coinbase] Issues with instant transfer and sending BTC lately? on: August 13, 2013, 01:35:42 AM
Coinbase is riddled with flaws and software problems. The whole site is like a work in progress. I have been trying for two weeks now to get my identification verified. I gave them all the info they require but still, no id verification. Angry

This system is pretty stable. Be patient, build you post count and everything will be ok.

Litecoin all the way.
14  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Largest Effective USB Hub for Block Erupters? on: August 02, 2013, 04:47:34 AM
Yes you could certainly do that, but the diodes are mainly so the wall wart supply couldn't backfeed power into your PC's usb port and vice versa. Since I removed the PC power passthrough diode it can't run as an unpowered hub anymore which removes that issue. Also you lose a bit of efficiency from the forward voltage drop of the diodes.
Thank you for the reply. I'm planning on modifying a hub myself soon.
15  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Largest Effective USB Hub for Block Erupters? on: August 01, 2013, 05:07:20 AM
When modifying USB hubs for higher current capacity, you must open the housing and desolder the passthrough diodes for the USB host and short out the diodes to the PSU input. This will make pretty much any cheapo hub capable of running at full power on all the ports (in theory)

I modified a Rosewill 7 port hub from Newegg. It came with a 2A adapter which would've only been enough for 3 erupters or so, but I removed the host diode and shorted the DC input diodes. It had four 1A schottky diodes, one on the host side and three on the DC jack. They will be easily overloaded and will burn out or cause problems past 3A of current.

After the mod it happily runs four AMUs, a Raspberry pi and a BFL Jalapeno. YMMV, happy hacking.

Good job. Nice to hear the system is working. One question, Instead of shorting out the three diodes, would it not be safer to replace them with 3 amp ones?

$915 + shipping. Is that a joke or a typo?  Huh
17  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: New pricing for Asic USB block Erupters on: July 31, 2013, 04:51:09 AM
Some of you may not understand the rules to get the 0.1 btc price. It is only for prior orders at 1 btc.

18  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Group Buy ASICMiner Blade (mini or full) on: July 31, 2013, 03:48:39 AM
My feeling is the Blades will be a lot cheaper than the Eruptor combination. Maybe a little more energy efficient too.

I'm impressed at the quality, so far. Want to see more.
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is CPU Mining Completely Phased Out? on: July 25, 2013, 06:19:12 AM
Cpu mining is done. Difficulty is way too high now for it to be viable. If you want to use a cpu miner, best advice is to go for LiteCoin.
