1  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I've been an idiot... Sent BTC to BCH Bittrex Account! on: November 12, 2017, 09:56:12 AM
Thanks for all the help but annoyingly this got confirmed this morning.

Since I wanted to put it into BCH at the time, it's become even more frustrating that my gut instinct was right and it's shot up since!  Cry

Make sure you never make the same mistake guys!
2  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I've been an idiot... Sent BTC to BCH Bittrex Account! on: November 12, 2017, 01:04:39 AM
I'm seeing people mention the following:
In the future, you can manually create a second transaction with the same inputs that includes a higher fee. Doing so might get it into a block more quickly, and the original transaction would eventually get dropped afterwards for having invalid (already used) inputs.

Does anyone know if this is true? If so could I make a VERY small transaction with a fairly high fee and hope it gets the initial transaction cancelled?

Yes, and that is called double spending which can come in handy whenever you want to revert a certain transaction, accelerate it by adding more fees or just simply want to send the coins to another address you wish.

Thanks!

My thinking is this:
My transaction which I lost is 0.02179551 BTC with fees of 0.00116184 BTC.

Now, if I was to make a very, very tiny intentional transaction of quite literally next to nothing (0.00015000 BTC for example) with higher fees than the current one, say 0.0020000 BTC for example, would this work?

I have just noticed that one part of the transaction is now showing 'Spent' while the other is saying 'Unspent' but for now it is still unconfirmed.

i think they should help you, if they can.
your bittrex account was created before bch fork?

No sadly it was only created around a week ago, I am still very new to this.

bittrex most probably dont own the address you sent to.
sorry, i dont think you will be able to recover it.

if youre not able to recover thru bittrex, i suggest you post the address here.

Sadly I was given this URL from Bittrex:
https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000961172?flash_digest=551cc6ecc28bec3ef6d9563cd80bbd580ec62e6f

Since the amount isn't worth $5000 USD and it's certainly not worth their 0.1BTC fee, it looks like it's gone unless a miracle happens and it doesn't get confirmed eventually.

Lesson learned the hard way.

No mail to contact but they do have a form
This link is for deposits only support.
Hope they fix it for you.

https://support.bittrex.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=114093957592

Thank you very much for your support.

I have just filled out the form so hopefully they may be able to help, but from what I have heard they only deal with very high transactions and charge a very high fee, I can't remember the exact amounts but it was way off what I am dealing with.

I really think they should help you, after all it was a mistake by you, if they are to be known as a reputable website, then they will indeed return your deposit, hope all goes well.

I would like to think that too, but sadly I know the reality of these companies, especially with the rate that crypto's have been growing lately they're undoubtedly going to have more work than ever.

Better to have tried and failed than not tried at all I guess! Thank you for your time.

How much was the transaction fee? I doubt that your transaction will never get confirmed in time.

And if it does get confirmed, your only shot will be to contact Bittrex support and pray for them to help you. Some exchanges will ask for a fee to help you since it's "too much work for them". But I don't know if that's the case for Bittrex, and it may not be worth if you lost a low amount of money.

Thank you for reply, sadly confirmed what I had thought. Admittedly it's a small amount to most people, but a fair chunk to me.

According to Blockchain, the fees are 0.00116184 BTC.

Fee per byte is 311.485 sat/B.

Okay, so, I know full well that this was a terrible idea, however I had a moment of sheer stupidity today and I've sent Bitcoin to my Bitcoin Cash Bittrex account. It was sent from Coinomi's Android app to Bittrex.

Dreaded doing this one day, and regrettably it's finally happened!

Now, the only slight positive I have in my favour at the moment is that the transaction is still yet to be confirmed. I spoke with Coinomi and they said there's nothing they can do as it would've already been sent to thousands of nodes, but that if it remains unconfirmed for 2 weeks it will reappear in my account.

Bittrex are yet to reply.

What do you think my chances are of it remaining unconfirmed and miraculously reappearing? Crossing just about every bone in my body in hope but not feeling very optimistic.

Any help is hugely appreciated!

Hey guys,
I took my first steps into the Bitcoin market recently with a small transaction on one of the most common convenient exchanges and I now have that in my wallet.

After reading up a little bit more, I learned about the Revolut > GDAX option to save on fees and when I saw the recent price at around $7k I decided to go ahead with it, as I'd read that it took others around 5 hours to complete.

I initially sent a very small transaction to ensure it didn't get lost in cyberspace and this frustratingly took nearly 2 days to come through, until this morning where I had an e-mail saying my funds had arrived at the same time I had a notification to say the BTC price has shot up!

Now, I'm wanting to make a larger transaction in the near future (although tiny compared to most on here!) and I'd like to know whether you would put it on now or wait to see if prices go down a little before the fork. However, I am going to be in this for the long haul so part of me feels like the current price not be quite so relevant in the grand scheme of things, where the other part is kicking me for not being able to do it yesterday!

Put yourself in my shoes and help me out!  Grin

Well, if you're looking to buy for a longterm holding, it really doesn't matter when you will buy. Alsom you're going to be pretty disappointed if you're waiting for the fork to happen to buy, see

https://twitter.com/CharlieShrem/status/928308237597888512

It just got cancelled, and bitcoin price has only gone through the roof since then.

-- So yes, you could wait for a minor dip, but if you're going to hold for the long term it might be better to just buy now.

Noticed this right after posting, seems like a pretty crazy evening for BTC! I got in at 7,200, admittedly could've done better but since I was considering at 7,800 in a moment of panic, I'm glad I waited it out.

Admittedly as a long term investment it's not the be all and end all, but every little helps, right?! Cheesy

Had planned to buy some more coins this morning but didn't get a chance, really wish I had now.

Now.... Do I wait for this to finish or do people think this is going to be a long-term boom? THINK, not hope!  Grin
