Great.  And is there any good reason not to use that instead of a 3rd-part service like bitcoinlaundry.com?

So is it possible to transfer btc from an online wallet to an offline wallet?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that purchasing bitcoins at some point requires the transmission of information over the internet, right?  Are the private keys for those same bitcoins changed when they are moved from the network to an offline wallet, so that the keys in their final form have never existed on a server?

I hope I'm not creating too many threads, but I'm curious whether anyone has experience using this feature:

https://blockchain.info/wallet/send-shared

Would it be ideal for, say, transferring money from one wallet that has personally-identifying information associated with it (due to purchasing bitcoins through a site like bitinstant), to a separate more anonymous wallet?

Wow!  That was a good explanation.  So the difference between an online and offline wallet is the location of your "private keys"?  ie, with an online wallet they are stored on a server and you access them via your identifying credentials for that website, and with an offline wallet they are stored on your hard drive or written down somewhere?

Interesting... So is it like the bitcoins only exist in a "latent" form in your paper wallet, and have to be so to speak "activated" via some code in order for them to function as currency?  Just trying to wrap my head around it.

Hey everyone.  I am new to this whole bitcoin thing, and am having a lot of trouble buying any!  I created a blockchain wallet and tried to buy via a cash deposit, but it seems to be down both on that site and on bitinstant.  Is anyone else experiencing this?  Are there any good alternatives?  I'd prefer not to have to link a bank account to my wallet.

Cash deposits are currently running on our site, however there have been some changes which may mean the blockchain integration isn't working smoothly - for now simply copy/paste your bitcoin address into our site.

Hey Gareth, thanks for the response!  Unfortunately I can't get your site to work either.  I get all the way through to where I put in my name, email and phone number, and then when I click "continue as guest" it gives me the message "We are experiencing problems with one of our partners, please try again later."  It's given me this message every time I've tried for the past few days.

What browser are you using? I've been getting that same error in Chrome since yesterday, but Firefox works. Issues with Chrome have been mentioned in the BitInstant support thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=128314.7760) too.

I am using Chrome, so maybe that has something to do with it, though yesterday I also tried Firefox to the same effect.  But now that I'm reading the BitInstant support thread, I'm hesitant to put any money in their hands at all....

Two factor authentication is always better than just a password. That said, the same reasoning still applies with a blockchain.info wallet as with a Mt. Gox account: your BTC are less safe there than they would be in an offline wallet that you control directly.

This seems weird to a lot of people, but we're all used to the well-established old-fashioned banking system, where the money in our accounts is insured (at least up to a certain level). With Bitcoin, there's no such insurance. If something happens to your BTC in an online account - whether it's on Mt. Gox or blockchain.info - you're on your own.

So how exactly does an offline wallet work? Excuse my lack of understanding...  Do the bitcoins that you keep on your hard drive have some unique identifying information that is kept intact if you want to use them for a transaction?  Is it that simple?  People seem to be saying that an offline wallet is extremely complicated, but I don't get why.

How much money would you say is safe to keep in a blockchain wallet?
It depends on how much that wallet is secure.

Is there a fairly simple way to make it more secure?
