1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: February 11, 2017, 10:28:51 PM
Goodbye folks.

Soooo, after some interesting times working with some pretty cool people in this community, I'm going to call it quits.

Simply put, as I've become involved in some other projects, I no longer have the time or patience to think about 8bit anymore.
(I've been "avoiding" it for a few months anyway at this point)

As the hosting for the 8bit faucet isn't free, And 8-bit-party didn't use the greater 8bit site I wrote anyway, I'm going to be ripping down the site asap and the server itself will be dark asap as well.

If anyone would like the code for the faucet, I'll be happy to provide it.

It's been a good ride folks, and the best of luck to all of you.
Cheers.

is there any way to start staking from cli ?

Put the following line in your darknet.conf file and restart the wallet.
staking=1

IMPORTANT

To everyone with synced wallet: go to the console and type:

Code:
getblockhash 661233

If you will see a different value than:
Code:
8a30b973f8a48141ea68077e980c96f0d940dcb07aa8e68857aad0c37deaf06a

means you are on the fork which will be orphaned with new update. Disable staking (or just shut down your wallet) and wait for an update (soon).

Block explorer and 90% of nodes (including Bittrex) are on the right chain.

The 8bit Faucet and my block explorer wallet.... Totally on the right chain!  Grin

My personal wallets... Not so much... Ugh.   Angry

Oh well, staking/masternoding off for now... annnnd awaiting the new code.

8-bit-party, just let me know either publicly or PM how I can help.

Could someone please post a step by step process of how to get the wallet up and running again.

I downloaded the latest bootstrap but for the life of me cannot get it to work.

Dummys guide to updating would be appreciated Smiley

For what platform?

Windows is OS

I thought put bootstrap in appdata\8bit but it is syncing from over 1yr 27wks ago and not loading bootstrap?

Even with the bootstrap file, I've found at least with my wallets, it still takes a few days to sync.

We will open a new, not moderated thread with a new code base release and coin swap announcement.
Till this time let's just grit our teeth and wait  Cool

Why no new thread now? Because I don't want to have first pages related to dealing with issues we have now...

HOWEVER

if you open a new, MODERATED thread that you will end with a link to the final one - I am completely fine with it.

Basically people always dig and bump abandoned threads what confuses other newcomers.

Ok, this totally makes sense... I'll still be happy to make/maintain the new thread, but I like the idea of waiting until we have a major code release to do it, assuming that's going to happen reasonably soon'ish.

Just let me know (either here or PM) where you think my help would be most valuable.

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I like this coin, i used it at a moment. I wouldl ike to thank the team behinde it's revival, however i strongly advise you to make a new  ANN thread because it is really hard to fetch updates. You know it is not easy to read the 255 pages to catch-up with the project.

This is a VERY solid idea. (and one that's been tried before, so if we do this, I'd really like to insure it works)

I would absolutely support the creation of a new ANN thread, if all the others here are also willing to move ALL discussion to the new thread.

I'd also be happy to open the new ANN (Thus, I'd be responsible for keeping the first post up to date, and helpful for new users, which is really the idea here.)...

Opinions?

allZuckedUp, are you synced? We need more nodes as my script has some issues to address.
Anybody with stable connection and external IP / upnp enabled, PM me.

The faucet's wallet would be a great choice for this.. It is caught up, I've sent you a PM with some details.

I know I've asked this before, but received no response... Sooo, I'm askin' again...

Does anyone have a copy of the old Mac wallet?

I really want to add it to the 8bit downloads page, but I don't have a mac to compile a new one on.

Pretty please...  Smiley

Here you go folks! Thanks to 8-bit-Party, here is the new official bootstrap file!

The downloads page for the 8bitcoin website has been updated with the file... http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/download.php

Also, here is a direct link. http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/downloads/bootstrap-633830-20160827.dat.bz2

Enjoy!!

hope this helps?

That link to the windows wallet will work just fine... (there is also step by step instructions to build a linux wallet there)

That said... DO NOT use that bootstrap file... That is an old link, with an out of date bootstrap file.
I have updated the download link with the current bootstrap file from 8-bit-party.

Soooo, feel free to go HERE for both the current bootstrap file, and the windows wallet. (http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/download.php)
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.3 Fork block 92000 on: October 11, 2016, 06:52:54 AM
Hiya folks...

I'm a *NIX engineer out here in burstcoin-land, and recently had several empty disks to plot... Not wanting to plot one BIG file on each disk, and wanting to "set it and forget it" until each disk is done plotting, I thus set about writing a little solution for myself... (I'm not sure if smaller files are faster or slower than bigger ones to read/process in PoC mining, but it's MUCH easier to move a 50G file to a different disk than a terabyte file)

Sooo, I came up with a Linux shell script (bash) to plot a hard drive to X percentage of it's capacity using dcct's plotter. (So, dcct's tools are obviously required for this to work)

This includes variables (settings) for the percentage of the disk to fill to, number of nonces in each plot file, the amount of memory to use while plotting, and the number of threads to run, and runs a health-check on each plot file as it's finished.

Just thought I'd throw it out there, and if you find this useful, please feel free to drop me a few coins! Wink  (BURST-TAM5-EABJ-M8VE-GSSNQ)

Anyway, here's a link to the script... http://www.netspecto.com/downloads/burst_plot.sh

Happy plotting!

I should have read the latest here before I sent in my donation! LOL

Anyway, seems my wallets are caught up... I've donated too, and the faucet wallet is less than 2 months behind, and should be caught up shortly.

I'm thrilled that so many folks came together to get this done!  Outstanding... Seriously. Smiley
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: October 10, 2016, 03:56:31 AM
drays is absolutely correct, I've been unavailable all weekend.
JUST got back from spending all weekend more than 50 miles from wireless signal of any kind... (Outside Moab, Utah, USA... I highly suggest it!)

Sooo, of course I'm happy to help...

My wallet I will donate from has been syncing all weekend, and I've got a few months left to go. I'll be happy to donate as soon as I can. (I'd guess it'll be very ready by morning tomorrow)

Either by public response, or PM: 8-bit-party, can you tell me how close we are to the needed number with the donations do far?
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: October 03, 2016, 09:04:35 PM

Pick 1 or 2 of them and resync. Are those nodes staking?

The co-lo/VPS/8-bit-faucet one is staking.
The other two are split, one staking, one masternode.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: October 03, 2016, 08:45:48 PM
So I still have three wallets stuck on that same block... As per 8-bit-party's latest, I have NOT resynced, as we seem to be on the correct chain.

Is that still correct? Or should I be reloading my wallets?  If not, should I be giving out the faucet's wallet's IP as an addnode? (decent VPS on good/fast network)

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: September 09, 2016, 06:50:40 PM
Did the chain indeed stop? According to http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/explorer.php the last block is 636889 and it was generated 9 days ago.
The wallet on my Linux box is struggling to sync from bootstrap - it is so slow and CPU hungry. I think it will sync in one week.. if not, looks like more powerful VPS is needed Smiley

In any case, a new chain seems to be the only viable solution to those sync issues.

The strength of the VPS is not the issue here... This one has multiple virtual cores, and 1.5g/dedicated ram (actually a lot for a VPS)... Annnnnd, all it's doing is one 8bit wallet, and a web server... (with ONLY the new 8bit site, the faucet, and netspecto.com on it, generating all of 100 hits/day total currently)

Specifically here's the CPU usage on the VPS: http://xymon.netspecto.com/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=server&SERVICE=cpu
Annnnnd, here's the memory usage: http://xymon.netspecto.com/xymon-cgi/svcstatus.sh?HOST=server&SERVICE=memory
Really, no issues there.

It is conceivable that if we can get 8bit working/rebooted, and it REALLY takes off, this VPS might not be enough, BUT, as for now, we should HOPE that becomes a problem... Wink

(point of fact, if it does become a problem, I'm very capable of building something multi-honed, geo-diverse, and load-balanced.... I do that sort of thing for a living.)
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: September 07, 2016, 06:32:13 PM
Any updates, dev?

I'm not the dev, BUT, I have opened a support case with Bittrex asking them to take a few steps to get their wallet rocking again.
I have also heard a bit from 8-bit-party (the dev) that he has been on the right track to get the blocks flowing again.  (short-term fix)

Either he or I will keep you folks posted as new arises... But rest assured, we are working not only to get the coin back on track, but to break new ground and really bring some value to this adventure!
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [*] 8BIT [Dark Masternodes][Anon][Roadmap Stage 4] on: September 04, 2016, 12:27:33 AM
Any news please.

Why does not work blockexplorer?

Actually the new block explorer is working just fine (although I am still working out the results formatting)... http://8bitcoin.netspecto.com/explorer.php

There is a widespread issue with the wallets at the moment (including the one that powers the block explorer)...
But, no fear, it is absolutely a fixable problem.

8-bit-party is actively working on a fix, and I do honestly expect to hear from him in the very near future.
